My name is Liam...

Mum worked as a nurse at the hospital down the road
The twelve hour shift was a heavy load
Then along came the Coronavirus
As a family, it took it's toll on all of us
It made our mum jittery, it was plain to see
As she had to work without PPE
She was so worried, especially
about Billy, Tanya and me
Then one day she contracted the awful disease
With a temperature and a cough, a terrible hack
She went into hospital, but she never came back
She died without us in the intensive care
We weren't even allowed to go in there
It was so hard not to be able to say goodbye
All we could do was cry, cry and cry
Dad told Tanya, my sister who is only eleven
that our lovely mum is now in Heaven
I feel lonely and uptight, I wish I could unwind
So many scenarios play in my mind
Can dad pay the mortgage on just one guy's pay?
It comes down to money at the end of the day
How about Jimmy?  He's my brother, just eight
He adored mum, she called him her 'little mate'
And Gran and Grandpa are heart broken too
Without our mum, what will we do?
Her meals were always so tasty and nice
Dad said 'If this was restaurant food, I'd pay for it twice'
Together, they were a 'proper' mum and dad,
the best parents us kids could ever have
I gave mum a hard time, I put her to the test
with my angst and my hormones, but she'd only jest,
Throw her arms round my neck, 'Oh, Sweetie' she'd say
'Don't look so glum.  It'll get better, I promise, and I'm always your mum'
My life is in pieces, where can I turn?
