(y/n) - your name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey, we're back..." I sigh softly as I get waken by someone gently shaking me, opening my eyes and hissing in annoyance from the bright light. I sit up and realise I was in the car, shielding my eyes from the sun.

It's just too goddamn bright...

"(y/n)?"

"It's too bright." I peek over at Five and he gets out of the car, walking over to my side and opens the passenger door for me. I get out and I get surprised when he takes his blazer off to put it around my head, shielding me from the sun. I look around the place and realise that we were back at the strip club, more specifically where Luther was. I was just tired and moved to lean back against the hood of the car, waiting to just get back to Elliots.

The Boy moved to stand next to me, rolling up his sleeves and waiting impatiently for his siblings. I was nodding off to sleep under the sun again and I open my eyes sleepily when the sun in my eyes suddenly disappear, looking up to see the little assassin standing in front of me. I raise a brow at him but I gasp in shock when he suddenly picks me up and sets me to sit on top of the car, standing in front of me.

"Five-" I blush heavily when he stands between my legs, him holding his blazer around my head. He lets me rest my head on his chest as his hands rest on the car next to my thighs, closing my eyes and relaxing in his arms to catch some shut-eye.

I hear Five chuckle softly, pulling me closer and leaning his cheek on top of my head. "You really love to sleep, don't you." I nod sleepily and I slowly doze off in his arms again. I jump in his arms, peeking out from the blazer when I hear something crash and drop.

"Jesus Luther." I mutter out when I see him peek through the hole he made in his brick wall, The Boy laughing in amusement at his idiotic brother. I sigh out, leaning on his shoulder as Vanya walks out of the building and towards us.

"Well, that clearly went well. You ready to go-"

"-I'm going back to the farm." Vanya quickly walks to the car as she cuts off her brother and he suddenly teleports away from me to try and stop her.

"Hey. Unacceptable, Vanya! Remember, we need to stick together!"

"Oh, why, so I don't end the world again." she snaps back at him as she stops at her car and I wince since she found out. I jump off the hood, keeping my head covered with Five's blazer and walk towards the siblings.

"Luther told you huh." Vanya frowns at me, nodding.

"Were you even gonna tell me?" she looks at me and I cringe, giving a so-so with my hand.

"I tried to," I glance at the assassin and he rolls his eyes. "but you gotta know, that it wasn't your fault completely. You had a shit childhood and an ex of yours that used you plus Luther just made you snap. Years of pent-up trauma and hurt can do that to someone."

"Well in my defense, no, I wasn't going to tell you!" Five says and I wack his arm at his blunt words. "And can you blame me? When you... you get angry, shit blows up!"

"Five!" I hiss at him after he said that but he gives me a knowing look. "What he means to say, is that you weren't given enough time to get a handle on your powers." I say, trying to ease the bad blood as much as I could.

Well hoping I could.

"Great. Are there any other family secrets you both failed to mention?" Vanya scoffs as she opens the door to her car to get in, ready to drive off.

"A boatload, Vanya, which I don't-we don't-have the luxury of sharing them with the-"

"-not helping Five!" I hiss at him and he sighs in defeat. He knocks on his sisters car window, her hesitating as she turns the engine off but doesn't drive off yet. "Vanya, please." I ask her and she looks at me with a frown but nods, rolling down the window.

"The clock is ticking on doomsday. We only have 9 days left." Five sighs out in defeat. "Just tell me that when I need you, you'll be ready." he looks at her with pleading eyes,

"I can't help you Five." he looks hurt hearing that, leaning back away from the car

"Vanya-"

"-I don't even know who I am." I get cut off as Vanya starts her engine.

"You're our sister! And a member of the Umbrella Academy. Like it or not, that's who you are!" Five tries to convince his sister but his words were falling on deaf ears.

"And you're my friend." I mutter out and she immediately freezes at my words, almost as if remembering something. "Please help us. We can't do it without you. We need the whole team." the violinist looks at me sadly.

"(y/n)..."

"Please, I know you must be terrified of not remembering who you were before but please, we're here now and your family needs you."

"I already have a family, Sissy and Harlan." Vanya snaps and I take a sudden step back from her tone, frowning. "New timeline, new me."

"No, that's not how it works-"

"-Vanya, please-" I sigh out when she drives off away from me and Five, watching the car turn a corner and disappear into the traffic. I turn around and see Luther flip us off. "Oh fuck you too Luther!" I yell out at him, flipping him off too before picking up a brick to throw it at him. Five quickly wraps an arm around my shoulders and leads me away back to our car, taking the brick from my hand and dropping it so I don't break anything.

"I wonder if it's too late to be un-adopted." he sighs in defeat as we got back in the car, him driving away and heading back to Elliot's place.

"At this point, pretty much yeah." I shrug, running my hands down my face in exhaustion as I nestle back against the car seat. "Let's just head back to Elliot's place..."

"I'm not looking forward to hearing Diego's complaining." The Boy groans out.

"Me neither..."

Five and I drive back to our base in no time, him parking haphazardly since he's still a terrible driver and we teleport into the building after.

"What happened-"

"-don't even. I need a shower and I need to brush my teeth." I cut off Diego, taking off my shoes and padding towards the bedroom to grab clothes to change into. I take my sweet time and freshen off, feeling clean and walking out in simple pjs to make something to eat when I see The Boy walk out from the other bathroom while drying his hair. "Coffee?"

"God, yes..." he slumps on top of the stool, rubbing his forehead as I make the little assassin his coffee. I made my tea and some food, passing him a plate and eating from mine.

"Eat it before I make you." Five was about to teleport away with his cup but he quickly settles back on the stool to finish his breakfast, the both of us ignoring Diego and Lila who watched with confusion.

It was too early to function and I was too tired to deal with them.

"Now can we get back to the issue at hand? Kennedy's assassination-"

"-fucking drop that already Diego! For fucks sake!" I yell at him, slamming the cup on the table and he freezes, looking at Lila who looked equally as scared.

"So I'm guessing it's a no with your backup siblings?" Lila asks and Five decides to explain everything that happened, pacing in his domestic clothes that wasn't his uniform as I head to the couch after I was done with my breakfast.

"They both hate us..." I mutter out as I drop down on the couch and lean my head on the armrest.

"So, what, you just let her go?" Diego asks.

"Well, Vanya had a lot to process. She'll come around. I know she will."

"What about the guys that went after her?" knife boy asks and  The Boy stops, looking at me before glancing at Lila who was casually painting her nails. It looked like she wasn't paying attention but we both knew she was. I shake my head at Five and he nods. Elliot comes back with a glass of coffee for Diego and Lila, and I take this as a distraction to spill the nail polish on the Handler's daughter.

"Oh shit! I'm so sorry!" I gasp out as she stands up.

"No it's fine-just-" she scrambles off to clean her dress and I give Five the thumbs up, letting him continue the conversation for now without the intruder in the room.

"The Swedes?"

"Yeah, I mean, how do you know they won't go after her again?" Diego asks.

"We don't."

"Any idea who sent them?"

"Oh, I have my suspicions." Five says, looking directly at Lila when she got back into the room, giving her his joker-esque sarcastic smile. "But right now, our priority is finding dad and getting answers, cause everything else depends on it." The Boy moves to sit down next to me on the couch while Diego and Lila sat on another one opposite us. I shifted so I could lay my head on the little assassin's lap, placing a pillow beneath my head to be comfortable.

"Which for the record, I found him already-"

"-and then let him go." Diego gets cut off by Five as he brushed my hair away from my face. I turn in his lap and nuzzled my face against his chest as he mindlessly rubbed my back.

"If it wasn't for (y/n) who threw a goddamn crate at dad!" I flip off the knife boy behind me and I hear him scoff. "He tried to stab me!"

"I'm surprised he waited this long Diego. We've all had the urge."

I chuckled, turning around to face the upset Kraken. "Plus, I'm still waiting on that thank you, Diego." I raise a brow at him and he rolls his eyes at me. "i did save you."

"No, you didn't!"

"Good thing I know where dad's gonna be in 2 days." Five cuts us off before I started a fight with his brother, taking out the invitation he found back at the umbrella company building and leans over the table to pass Diego.

"Where'd you get this?"

"Found it at his office while he was busy trying to stab you." Diego reads out the invitation to the gala and I know Elliot was going to say something about Hillenkoetter.

"Whoa, wait. Hoyt Hillenkoetter?" he asks and The Boy looks up at him.

"You know him?" he asks and that's when Elliot goes on his crazy spiel, closing my eyes to block off the words since I know what's going to happen.

"You and I can go dress shopping (y/n)! I haven't had a proper girl's day or introduced myself to you properly." I open my eyes to see Lila smiling at me and I just stay quiet before looking back at Diego.

"Hillenkoetter is one of the Majestic 12 which is a secret committee." I mumble out and Elliot points at me with wide eyes.

"Yes! Bingo! Scientists, military, uh, deep state. No one knows what they really do."

"They're shadow government." I cut Diego off before he could ask his stupid question.

"Kennedy was the first president to try and push 'em into the light, but these guys are not to be trifled with." Elliot ran around, rummaging through his stuff to find the photograph of these men and he comes back. "Right here." He places the photo down on the table, pointing to one dude in particular. "That's Hoyt right there."

"There's 11 in the photo cause only these 11 were identified. The 12th is yet to be known." I yawn out and everyone looks at me.

"Who's the 12th?" Five looks at Diego suggestively.

"Tell me again why we have to do this?" I groan out as Five tugs me along with him down the pathway as we pass by various shops, walking together despite wanting to go back indoors.

"Cause we need to blend in. So that means finding some formal outfits." He says and I run my hands down my face in annoyance at the fact we needed to find clothes for the gala.

"I should've told you this, but I despise shopping. I hate it so much." The Boy turns to me and just smirks.

"Too bad, we're going shopping and you're trying on dresses."

"Why can't I just stay out of this one?"

"Because I said so." he holds my hand tightly to prevent me from running away-not like I would be able to go far anyway since he can teleport to me-and pulled me along with him through town. During our hasty walk, we pass by a familiar diner and I catch a glimpse of Klaus inside with Dave and his uncle and I quickly pull Five back to stop him.

Jesus fuck Klaus!

I told you to let me know if you're going to see Dave!

"Wait, wait!" Five stumbles back and I run in the diner.

"How 'bout you get outta my seat, quee-"

"-how about you shut the fuck up asshole!" I hiss loudly and Dave's uncle turns his head to glare at me as I stand next to Klaus.

"This is none of your business little girl-"

"-hey big brother, is this man annoying you?" I place a hand on Klaus' shoulder and he looks at me in surprise.

"You better run off-"

"-and you better shut your damn mouth." I growl back at the man before looking at Dave. "And you, you're not going to stand up against your uncle when he treats people like shit!?"

"He has no reason to talk to queers like you-"

"-bitch, that fucking paint was for my bathroom." I put my hands on my hips, raising a brow at Dave's uncle as he sputters out. "Plus who the fuck cares if my brother is gay. He's still my brother and he can love whoever the fuck he wants! Anyone can love who they want to love! You have no right to tell them otherwise!" Dave's uncle glares at us as Klaus tries to get time to talk to Dave. Both men were talking to Dave and I knew he didn't know what to do, their voices overlapping and just confusing him. He was conflicted and I pulled Klaus up from his seat.

"Dave please-(y/n) wait-"

"-he's going to hit you Klaus..." he looks at me heartbroken then at Dave before running off. "Dying and all that for your country may be important, but think about the people that love you. They will be miserable without you. Don't sacrifice yourself for the sake of others. Do what you think is important. It's your life Dave, not someone else's. It's your life to live and no one should dictate it except for you." Dave looks at me before I walk out of the quiet diner to see Five waiting for me patiently, frowning when he sees me look downhearted.

"You ok?"

"Yeah, not much I could've done to try and change that situation. At least Klaus didn't get hit like before."

"You're a good person (y/n). You did what you could." I nod and let Five drag me to a clothes store and I follow him inside, just wanting to back already. I just wasn't in the mood anymore. He walked down racks of formal clothing, not knowing what to get for himself as I idly walked around. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, or looking in general but I stopped when I saw a certain dress and a matching suit hidden away at the back of the shop. I walked closer to the end to see the dress, taking it out an inspecting the lovely design.

Perfect.
