Fish don't think before they clamp their weird little mouths onto a juicy worm or crunchy bug. All they see is the treat within their sight, and that's all they desire. It's putrid to us humans, but what we don't realize is that we do the same thing.
I know many compare feeding ones selfish desires with being baited onto a hook, one only humans can use on each other. But the scary thing is, we don't realize that we are the ones baiting ourselves.
I didn't realize how much trouble and heartbreak I could have avoided, if I only I stayed out of the water in general. I was the one fishing, not knowing what I was going to catch.
When your heart wants something bad enough, you take a chance even though you may not get what you want.
But there comes a time when we need to realize that what our heart wants, and what our mind wants are two completely different things.
The heart takes risks, but the brain is cautious.
When the heart is in control, it tosses the hook out into the water, hoping what it wants snags onto the hook. And when it doesn't? A failure. It's time to toss out the line again. But after a few tries, and no results, it becomes a waste of time in the end, doesn't it? And it becomes pretty discouraging.
I had become a fisher. I was letting my heart lead me to what it wanted. I took risks and tossed my hook into uneven waters, countless times. I never caught what I wanted. My heart was the bait in the end. And it was painful.
The sad thing about humanity is that many clamp their teeth on a vulnerable heart. It means power to them.
Oh, but here's another interesting thing.
When we catch a fish, we can either reel it in with the bait, or let it take the bait and toss it back into the water.
I won't let anyone swim off with my heart. So I stopped fishing after I realized what I was doing. I didn't let a fish go off with my heart, whether or not it already had it.
Taking back your heart may break someone else's, but that doesn't mean you're doing the wrong thing. It just means you want to keep living for something else other than this sport. You value yourself enough to hold on tight to that beautiful beating thing inside of you and say "Be patient. Your time is coming." But for now knowledge is your ultimate power.
Just train your heart to keep up.
