Twiddling My Thumbs,

"You ready for a day of adventure?" I sang as we shoved our way off the train.

"Yes?" Christian squeaked out as he got shoved every which way but rushing bodies.

"That's the spirit! not,"  I abruptly stated.

Eventually we made it out of the bustling train station of Chicago, making our way to the nearest coffee shop which just so happened to be in the same building as the trains. Our camera bags which looked pretty similar to book bags, making us look like college students, were swung over both of our shoulders as we waited in line.

"What do you want? It's on me," my hands snacked through my wallet looking for my rewards card.

"Are you sure?" His hands gripped his bag straps.

"Yeah, its my treat since you got a lot of hard work ahead of you," snickering we finally got up close enough to see the menu.

"okay um I guess I'll get a frappe-chino, what about you?

"A cold drink? In the windy city? Okay whatever makes you happy! And I get a hot chocolate every time, after having a caffeine overdose I stay away from coffee but that doesn't stop me from loving the aesthetic and ambiance of coffee shops!" quickly we ordered up and moved to the pick up station.

"Why do you think I love coffee shops?"

"Oh gosh um because they smell nice," he stated, a rushed answer more like.

"No you're thinking too simple, look around you. Try and not be creepy though," laughing at his scrunched up nose I looked as his eyes scanned around us.

"The people?" he slowly spoke.

"Yes! Exactly! Now you're getting it. The atmosphere these places have is of hard work but there's so many types of hard work. Some people are CEO's, some are college kids, some just really love coffee."

"okay? Hurray?" he sarcastically stated, still looking around and then landed on me.

"Don't be so glum, this is such a simple thing that has such a beautiful feeling," we both walked up as our names were called, grabbing our drinks, and headed out the revolving doors. Instantly our jackets were blown back and our hair was going every which way. The windy city in the fall definitely makes itself known.

"Now what do you like in the city?" I questioned over the wind as I sipped my hot chocolate.

"I guess all the options, so many buildings, so many jobs. There's always something new coming across your path when coming here," he stammered out over the noise of honking, tire screeching and of course the wind.

"Valid perspective, you can definitely incorporate that into a niche for your original work," we began our walk from the station, phones in hand trying to figure out how to work the buses.

When we finally settled down for a ride I nudged him to keep his eyes off his phone and gestured to everyone around us. He looked confused like usual but I just stared at him to try and creep him out till he figures it out.

"Look with your soul. Incorporate that perspective you have into what you see. There's so much in the city right?," he nodded along with furrowed brows, "what makes up all those things, all those jobs? The people and the details."

"I think I get it. Guess I never thought to look deeper than the basics," he stated as his eyes scanned.

"Most don't. Now we're going to be judgmental, I want you to pick someone and pick apart every detail about them and tell me what you think it means, what do you believe is their life?

I watched his face as he slowly looked up and down the bus, trying to pick someone entertaining. His brown but red tinted hair fell into his eyes from the top but the shaved sides kept it looking neat and put together.

Today he was wearing a thick overcoat that reminded me of a muddy green, a plain black hoodie underneath that and some skinny jeans. Luckily he prepared for the windy city today, I on the other hand was overflowing in my black trench coat jacket and black jeans. Color wasn't my thing in clothing unless the occasion warrants it. Most of the time I could get away with just a hoodie since my complex sat on the outskirts of the city, away from the sea current winds.

Finally his head stopped and stared somewhere past and behind me, slowly I turned and saw a few people sitting on the bus seats. One girl stood out though. Her blond hair probably hit about elbow length and was wavy as if she just took a dive in the salty beach. She had on a simple zip up hoodie, underneath sat a pristine and crisp uniform, complete with a tie and stockings beneath the skirt.

"What are you thinking?"  I nudged him and got his faded hazel eyes to lock onto me.

"Well the uniform obviously suggests a high end school, but the cleanliness shows maybe a cleaner or maid?

I nodded along and had similar conclusions, "okay good start but go deeper. Her eyes, her body language, pick apart everything."

"I see why you warned me about being judgmental. How would I know all this?" his breathe scoffed out as he plopped back into his seat.

"You don't, and you never will. It's the emotion and aura that comes off people that you need to clutch too," getting someone else to see your passion wasn't easy but if it took steps then we'd take them one at a time if we needed. "How about when we get off you just take pictures. No detail just take them. If it catches your eye go for it?

"I can do that," I smiled glad I got some direction to go with him.

That's exactly what we did. We said goodbye to the uniformed female and began wiping off the lens to look at the world in a new light. He took a lot of physical pictures but here or there I was happy to see some photos of many different people. The heart of the city allowed for different lifestyles to clash whether it be a tourist, or an exhausted office worker, you could find something to look at.

Finally we both felt our bodies drain of any energy and sat on the pier eating away at some hot dogs we grabbed along the way. Ice cream would've been great if it wasn't for the frigid  temperatures.

"How do you feel about today?

"Better now that it's over," he mocked at me as he slumped into the bench.

"Hey!" I shoved his shoulder and laughed as his body flung back in attack.

"I was kidding sheesh, I definitely have new material to bring to class," his voice gave off a light feeling, as his true heart came through.

"Think of pursuing photography after the course?

"Maybe," he shrugged.

"I think it would be a great idea," the corners of  my mouth softly lifted as I looked at him, his eyes staying locked with mine before we finally headed out.

Note

Finally a new chapter, I am so sorry! I'm horrible at writing deep characters so I was so bored of this story but I've been watching some harry styles edits and got some new inspiration. Hopefully this isn't too boring, I wanted to bring a new light into the shadowing with this chapter. Harry will be a main focus soon I swear!
