Chapter 28: Theives
"We must find a way to distract the Meanies." Finn said seriously. "Any ideas?"
"We could throw things at them? I don't know." Blue suggested, earning her a raised eyebrow from Roger. "We need to split up." He said. "Some of us distract the Meanies while some of us grab the instruments."
"Yeah." Emily said. "I'll help distract if you want." She shrugged her shoulders.
Jeremy hopped excitedly from one foot to the other. "This is really a marvellous plan! Of such good ideas, I am quite a fan!"
Roger rolled his eyes. "Emily, Blue and Jeremy can distract the Meanies then. Me and Finn will sneak up the hill."

"Do you really think this will work?" Emily asked Jeremy, observing the leaves he was carrying in front of his face to "disguise" himself.
"Of course!" He exclaimed happily, walking into Blue and falling over.
"Right..." Emily picked up a leafy branch, before dropping it again. The Meanies would still see their legs anyway. Blue looked at the blue monsters that were drooling in their sleep and snoring loudly.
"They look quite cute when they're asleep, don't they?" She observed.
Emily looked at them. "Not really, no. Anyway, let's get started."
Jeremy took his que and suddenly started leaping straight towards the metal gates. "YOO HOO MR MEANIES!" He caterwauled as he used one of the Blue Meanie's fat, fluffy stomachs as a trampoline. "COME AND GET ME!"
There was an uproar as Meanies woke up and started snarling at the Boob that was dancing between them. Emily and Blue watched, dumbstruck. They had hardly had time to react!
They rushed in to help Jeremy, who had set off a chaotic uproar on the hill. "Come here you big fat sods!" Shouted Blue, almost laughing. The Meanies were actually really slow, lumbering towards her like giant overweight guinea pigs.
She stepped backwards onto something soft; and she turned quickly to see a terrifying figure looming over her. It looked like a clown, with stripes of paint decorating its menacing face.
Blue stood, frozen with fear, as the clown opened its mouth silently. No sound came out for a few moments, but when it did it was an ear splitting shriek that made Blue wince and back away. The clown carried on screaming and its head started to revolve on its neck, its red nose flashing an alarm. It was terrifying to look at.
Blue turned around again to see even more Meanies waking up and striding towards her. She looked around desperately, searching for Emily or Jeremy. Where were they?
"Over here!" Exclaimed Emily; and she saw the girl and the Boob running away from a group of Meanies.
"I'm coming!" Shouted Blue; and raced between the thick blue arms that linger out to grab her; and finally reached the others.
Jeremy leapt up acrobatically, sticking his tongue out and doing the splits in the air; and landed running. The Meanies let out an enraged roar and carried on chasing the trio, abandoning their posts on the hill.
*
Finn and Roger observed the action from behind the wall surrounding the hill.
"He's clever, that Boob, in't he?" Asked Roger quietly, as the last few clowns and Meanies left the hill.
"Yeah, I s'pose." Replied Finn, as he crept towards the gates. "Come on then. Let's get going."
The two boys rushed up the hill, careful not to let anyone see them. They entered the small building at the top, carefully closing the door behind them.
Inside were heaps of boxes and instrument cases, covered in waterproof fabric, dust and cobwebs. "Which ones do we get?" Asked Roger, examining a rusty triangle. He laughed, discovering a pile of fake beards and moustaches. "What do you say to getting Emily to put one of these one?"
Finn looked up briefly and grinned. "Yeah. But let's get these instruments first. Look, here's a guitar... with a broken G string. Great."
They rummaged around until they had an acoustic guitar, a keyboard, a violin and a tambourine. "I've never seen a keyboard like this before." Said Finn. "Look, you put the strap over your head and lean it on your stomach so you can carry it around and play it."
"Cool." Replied Roger, tuning the guitar. "These instruments aren't particularly in good shape, are they? I bet Sgt. Pepper's proper posh instruments are kept somewhere else."
"Maybe. But these will have to do. Fred once told us that the spare Sgt. Pepper outfits were kept in here though... shall we get some? Just for fun?"
Roger grinned. "Don't see why not." They looked around in the boxes until they had a few little accessories.
"Right then." Said Finn. "Let's get going! Where did we say we'd meet Blue and the others?"
"I think we agreed to meet at the bandstand."
"Okay."
Armed with their instruments, the two boys made their way down the hill. The Meanies had better be prepared, because they were going to make some music.
