Chapter 25: Boob
Finn held the radar as the others followed him through Nowhere Land. They were getting closer to the Boob's heat signature...
Faintly, in the distance, a cheerful chirrup of a voice began to call out "Aspire to inspire before we expire!" The four children rushed towards the Boob's voice.
Blues first view of it was a round, brown and very fuzzy head peeping out from the top of a typewriter; and the sound of the keys being pressed extremely quickly.
"Umm... hello." She started; and the Boob popped his brightly coloured face around the back of the typewriter to take a look at his visitors.
"Hello, how are you? I'm quite good, that is true!" The Boob danced around the children's feet, hopping from one foot onto the other.
"What's your name?" Asked Emily curiously.
"Jeremy Hilary Boob, of course! We all have that name, but we're not the same sort."
"So all of you are called Jeremy?" Asked Roger. "That's a bit crazy."
"Indeed, although we all share the same name, it doesn't quite mean that we're all quite the same." Jeremy stuck out a paw and patiently waited for everyone to take turns shaking it. "I would love to just talk in just riddles and rhyme, but I do have to say that I haven't the time. I have to prepare what I say in advance; and sometimes it doesn't all quite go to plan."
Blue could already see Roger getting frustrated at the Boob's never ending chitchat and energetic bouncing, so she asked Jeremy a few questions.
"Jeremy, can you help us get to Pepperland and defeat the blue Meanies?"
In response, he hopped towards his typewriter and picked it up; and it turned into a long sword. He held it up valiantly and waved it in the air. "I would love to join you on this brave quest, but sadly my fighting skills are not the best."
Blue laughed out loud at the sight of the little creature sounding so noble; and felt the desire to pick him up and give him a hug. But it didn't really seem appropriate.
"Where is the vehicle, so we can go far? I'm looking around, but I don't see a car." Jeremy peered around them, wondering how the children had got here. "Did you come by a car? A boat? A plane? Or maybe you arrived on a bike or a train..."
"We came in the Yellow Submarine." Finn replied seriously. "It's this way." He pointed towards a seemingly random area in the infinite expanse of nothingness. "At least... I think it's this way." He walked slowly, before changing direction and walking another way.
He looked back helplessly at the others. "Sorry. I'm a terrible navigator. I'll just use the radar." He fumbled around with it and ended up dropping it; breaking it into several irregular pieces . He looked up, horrified at what he had done. "I'm sorry! I'm such an idiot!"
"We are only what we believe we are." Replied Jeremy joyously; and started hopping off into the distance. "At directions I happen to be quite a star!"
Roger gave Finn a funny look as if to say "Should we trust him?" But Finn was already following the Boob.
Soon, they were following Jeremy back towards the Submarine whilst he quoted some of his favourite poems:
"You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes! You can steer yourself any direction you choose! You're on your own; and you know what you know! And you are the one who'll decide where to go!"
Randomly, Jeremy twirled around and displayed joyful dance moves. Each time he did this, a burst of colour exploded out of the ground where his feet landed, causing flowers to bloom and plants to blossom in his wake.
It was like he was creating a path of pure joy, thought Blue as they followed him. Surely enough, Jeremy led them directly back to the Submarine, which he investigated curiously. "It's as fit as a fiddle! Right as the rain! The Yellow Submarine truly earned its fame!" He declared what good shape the Submarine was in before clambering in after the children.
Once inside, Emily settled down with a sandwich and Blue and Roger began a game of cards. Finn was left with the task of showing Jeremy all the consoles, buttons and levers.
The Boob got to grips with it surprisingly quickly; and Finn decided he was confident enough to let him take off.
"This is such a fantastical thing! A machine that can fly, but without any wings!" Jeremy expertly flicked a few different levers and took off smoothly.
"I do have to say, this is rather grand! Off we go to Pepperland!"
