Chapter 23: Through the Portal
The Kraken rumbled angrily, stretching its enormous tentacles towards the four children.
"It's this way!" Gasped Emily, spotting a clump of cookie on the floor. Finn and Blue supported Roger as they followed the trail of biscuit crumbs. "Hurry!" Snapped Thelma. "It's gaining on us!"
Roger peered around to see a tentacle racing towards them. The eye on its tip gleamed menacingly as it pursued them. "Hurry up!" He shouted, moving as fast as he could. He was angry at himself for being so exhausted after the Kraken attack.
"I... can... see... the... exit!" Panted Emily. She pointed at a circle of light at the end of the dark tunnel. They raced into the open air. The bright lights, vibrant colours and beautiful sounds were so welcoming and fresh. Finn ushered everyone inside the Submarine.
Turning, he slammed the Submarine door behind him before helping Roger sit down. He peered out of a porthole to see a slimy tentacle worming menacingly towards the Submarine.
"Move move move!" He shouted to no one in particular, spamming a few random buttons. Suddenly, "Have You Ever Seen The Rain?" started playing on the speaker. "Yay!" Grinned Blue. "I love this song!"
"Me too!" Shouted Finn, "But we need to take off!" The Submarine started to shake and take off, just as the tentacle started to wind around them, pulling them back down. "Do something!" Shouted Emily.
Panicking, Finn pressed another button. The song changed to "Another One Bites The Dust" but the tentacle kept attacking.
"For heaven's sake!" Snapped Thelma. "Let me take control!" Emily detached her from her waist and placed the speaker back onto the metal pole. "There we go!"
Straight away, the Submarine started pulling away from the Kraken. The tentacle finally let go, staring aggressively at the Submarine as it flew out of reach.
Everyone sighed with relief. "Now then." Said Thelma. "Time for some more relaxing music."
Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea, my desire is always to be here...
"Mull of Kintyre" started playing gently as they sailed off into the distance. "Pardon me asking," Said Roger "but where are we actually going? We have the portal so let's go through it."
"Calm down Roger." Replied Thelma. "We need to find a place that isn't infested with monsters first."
"Oh yeah. Good point." Roger peered out of a porthole and looked at all the creatures he could see. "There's a clearing down there." He pointed at a valley that seemed totally uninhabited by any monsters.
"Here you go Finn," Said Thelma "you take control now." Finn grabbed the wheel and carefully landed the Submarine onto the colourful ground. "Let's go." He said.
Blue peered at the colourful portal-cubes in her hand. Gripping them tightly, she exited the Submarine with her friends and placed them on the floor, forming a swirling square portal. Finn stepped back to admire her handiwork.
"Just move them a bit further apart." He said. "Or we won't be able to fit the Submarine through." Blue and Emily replaced the portal-cubes before getting back in the Submarine with Roger and Finn.
"Okay." Finn said, before taking off. Blue held her breath nervously as they hovered a few hundred metres above the portal. "Hold on." Finn said to the others, before plunging the Submarine straight through the portal.
They disappeared in a flash of purple light.
