Chapter 28: Karen, just deny the call
17k is unbelievable. I'm so thankful for you guys. Thanks for all the support uwu it means so much ~(. .~).
The Avengers siren blared just as Tony shut the door to the lab. He cursed under his breath. Just when he'd gotten away from Steve...
As Tony called his suit to him, Natasha entered the lab, decked out in full gear and wearing a badly masked expression of worry. Tony froze. If something was enough to make the Natasha Romanoff worry, and show it too, you knew it was bad.
"What is it?" The billionaire asked tightly as the face plate of his suit snapped into place.
Nat took a shaky breath, her fists clenching and unclenching at her sides. "These monsters," she started in a quiet voice. "I've dealt with them before..and lost."
"Okayyy," Tony said. "But now I'm here so we won't lose."
"No," the redhead shook her head. "That's not what I'm worried about."
"Then what is it? Just spit it out Nat, i can take it."
The assassin cocked an eyebrow, as if to say, can you? Before answering.
"The monsters, they're at Peter's high school."

MJ yanked her arm from Ned's grasp. "Why did you just leave him?!" She cried, turning back to the school building. Teenagers were pouring out of every door, with more of those hellish beings rushing in.
Ned made a small noise, wringing his hands together. How was he supposed to explain that Peter Parker could handle a bunch of terrifying creatures without giving away the fact that he was also Spider-Man?
"Uh..why-why do you even care? He's just some loser to you anyway," Ned tried, crossing his arms over his chest. He could feel his heart racing, sweat pricking at the base of his neck. If Peter could protect him and his entire school, then Ned could at least protect his identity.
Right?
MJ didn't look fazed by Ned's words, instead leaning in close and whispering, "Has it ever occurred to you that he is more than some loser to me now?"
Ned gulped, alarms ringing in his head. He took a shaky step back from the girl, desperately trying to think of a reason as to why Peter was still inside while also forcing down his excitement over the fact that MJ maybe kinda liked Peter.
Unfortunately for him, MJ grew impatient. "Fine," she snapped, pulling her curls back into a sloppy ponytail. "If you won't tell me, I'll just go find out for myself." And with that, she took off towards the building, pushing her way through crowds running to escape while Ned yelled after her.

Peter jumped off the table, flipping in the air and planting his feet squarely in the chest of one of the monsters, launching them backwards. He landed on the wall, clambering up the ceiling to dodge one of the creatures throwing themselves at him. In the last couple minutes or so of him fighting them, Peter had learned that the monsters had so regard for their own lives. They just wanted to end his in any way possible, even if that meant catapulting themselves at him like a slingshot.
"Mr. Parker, the Avengers have been alerted of the situation and are currently on their way. Incoming call from Boss," came Karen's voice in the midst of the fight. Peter gritted his teeth as he webbed two of the monsters together and stuck them to the wall.
"Deny call!" He said. He couldn't be distracted, not with these things pouring into the building at every opening, replacing every one they lost with three more.
"Call overridden," Karen replied and Tony Stark's face appeared in front of Peter's eyes, practically blinding the teen.
"Hang up! Hang up!" Peter cried immediately, replying completely on his senses to navigate the battle.
"What? Kid, are you alright? I'm on my way," Tony ignored Peter's request.
"Karen, end the call-i can't see-!" Peter said just as one of the monsters collided with him in midair, taking him down into a cluster of abandoned lunch tables and chairs. Peter cried out, his senses being overwhelmed as his body hit the floor while Tony was still yelling in his ear.
"Peter-!" Tony tried but the young vigilante had ripped his mask off his face. He couldn't have his dad screaming at him while he tried to fight, especially if it put him in danger.
Peter pulled himself from the wreckage, wincing at he put weight on his left leg. He glanced down to see a bite mark on his calf. The teen suddenly felt woozy. Oh shit, he thought, leaning against one of the tables to stay upright. Does this mean imma turn into a zombie now?
A low growling noise caught the spiderling's attention. He turned to see one of the monsters, a small boy with red hair and eyes as white as snow, claw himself from the mess of tables and chairs. Blood stained his teeth and lips, dribbling down his chin. Peter wanted to throw up.
Spider-Man stumbled back from the creature, tumbling over debris in a fruitless attempt to get away while nauseous to the point of nearly passing out. The monster crawled after him, quick on all fours. He jumped into the air, mouth wide and hands ready to finish off the arachnid. Peter was frozen in fear until the monster ate a wooden baseball bat instead of his face.
"God, you are so fucking ugly."
Peter struggled to keep his eyes from rolling back in his head. He focused on the figure crouching in front of him, on her mess of curls and emotionless demeanor.
"MJ?" He asked weakly.
"Yours truly, Spider-Man," MJ said, tucking the bloodied bat under her arm. She extended a hand to Peter who gladly took it. He swayed on his feet.
"What are you doing here?" Peter asked. "How did you find out? Did Ned tell you?"
MJ snorted. "Of course you'd be concerned over your identity after i just saved your life. Looks like I'm gonna have to do it again unless you stop asking so many questions, dork."
Peter smiled sleepily. "'M sorry. Just a bit woozy."
MJ's brows furrowed in confusion. She glanced down to see Peter's leg bleeding. "Oh shit..," she breathed. Then, "Is there help on the way?"
Peter nodded, practically falling into MJ's arms. "'M dad."
"Your..dad? Isn't he dead-?"
The question was left unanswered when the ceiling opened up and the Avengers dropped down into the cafeteria. MJ pulled Peter in closer to her, shielding the both of them as dust and debris rained down from the opening.
Ironman was the first to emerge from the cloud of dust. The rest of the Avengers fanned out around him, taking down the monsters as he rushed towards the two teenagers.
His face plate lifted to reveal the panicked expression of Tony Stark. He addressed MJ, worry twisting his words into ones of anger.
"What happened to him?" He demanded, reaching for Peter.
MJ reared back, holding Peter defensively. "What's it to you?" She asked as a monster exploded behind her. She had no fear though.
Tony's face went red, his eyes narrowing. "He's my son, actually. Now tell me what happened to him," he snapped.
MJ barely masked her surprise. Oh, okay, so that makes sense now. "Well, dad or not, I'm the one who saved his life. I'm coming with you."
