8: Eligibility (Her Side)
I gazed out of the window, a gentle habit that always soothes my mind. The scenery that unfolds before me each day is a true blessing, a gift that fills my heart with serenity.
In truth, the ability to breathe and embrace each new day is the greatest blessing of all.
The scent of fresh sheets mingles with the ocean breeze and the subtle aroma of wood from the nearby cupboard. It feels as if the air has been refreshed, just like after a gentle rain shower. I absentmindedly play with the hem of my t-shirt, allowing my thoughts to drift away. This place truly feels like heaven to me.
"Good morning, Miss Klein! Are you ready to conquer the day?" A sweet lady enters with a tray of breakfast. I nod and offer her a smile, slowly maneuvering my wheelchair closer to her.
"Where would you like to have your breakfast?" she asks. I point my finger towards the living area, and she places the tray on a portable table, carefully positioning it in front of me.
"Tha...nk...y...ou," I express, my words flowing slowly.
"You're making progress, Miss Klein!" Her words warm my heart, and I smile gratefully at her as I lift the spoon to my lips, savoring the delightful porridge made with mushrooms and chicken. She leaves me to enjoy my meal, while my eyes remain fixed on the screen, watching the morning news.
After some time, I finished my breakfast, feeling nourished and ready for today's therapy session.

"Slow... Okay... You're doing great... Alright!" The man claps his hands in admiration. I can't help but giggle, raising my hands up in the air. It's a small victory, but a significant one. I can stand now, even if it's still a bit wobbly. At least I'm making progress.
"We might not need the wheelchair for much longer! I'm so proud of you, Jane!" he exclaims, a genuine smile on his face.
"Re...a...lly?" I feel a surge of elation. It's as if I can already see a glimpse of my old self returning. All that remains now is my speech therapy. I long to speak properly again, to articulate my thoughts and emotions with ease. It's been four long months since I've had conversations with my friends. Living away from work and home, solely focused on my recovery and therapy.
You must be curious about what happened to me, right? Allow me to explain.
That fateful night, a truck collided with me as I crossed the road towards my car. It was my first time being drunk, and Eric and Suraya later told me how dire my condition was. The impact had affected my spine, leaving me paralyzed, almost in a vegetative state. I could only move my eyes, hearing everything but unable to speak or react. Thankfully, my memory remained intact, as the doctor had assured.
Sometimes, I wish I could erase those memories, for they bring immense pain even in the smallest recollections. But deep down, I know that God has a plan for me, a plan that holds goodness. He showed me mercy, giving me a chance to appreciate life more than ever before.
Suddenly, the door to the rehabilitation room swings open. Someone enters, their presence filling the room.
"Oh, you're early today!"
I begin to turn my head slowly, but the person quickly embraces me from behind. I catch a whiff of a musky, woody, and enticing scent that tickles my senses. My cheek receives a gentle peck, and a smile naturally forms on my face.
"How are you today, sunshine?"
"G... good," I manage to reply. He releases me, crouching down in front of me, gently caressing my palm.
"She's improving every day. I believe she might even walk on her own by the end of this month," he says, glancing at my therapist before turning his gaze back to me. There are tears shimmering in his eyes.
"Do... not... cry," I tell him. He smiles at me, planting a tender kiss on my lips. I stutter for a moment, taken aback and feeling bashful from the unexpected gesture.
"May I take her out for a while?" he asks my therapist. The therapist nods in approval. He takes hold of the wheelchair's handle, pushing me outside with a joyful expression on his face.

I gaze at him, struggling with the chocolate box, and can't help but find him incredibly adorable and innocent. I feel grateful that he has never left my side, especially during the most challenging times of my life.
After spending a month in the ICU, with only my family allowed to visit, I was finally discharged and returned to my apartment. I didn't want to burden my parents with taking care of me, so Eric understood and hired a caretaker. However, this man, despite having a caretaker, continued to visit me every single day. From the very beginning, he has been there, unwavering and devoted. He was the one who recommended this rehabilitation center for me and willingly covered all the expenses.
I owe him so much, not just for his financial support, but for everything. Every single thing.
"Here you go," he says, feeding me a piece of dark chocolate, knowing it's my favorite. Spending time together has allowed him to get to know me on a deep level. He knows my favorite chocolate, my preferred weather—every intricate detail about me. It's astonishing how he managed to understand me in just a month.
But what Eric told me a few months ago gives it all meaning.
"Love makes us addicted and devoted."
I look into those eyes, filled with love and cherishing every moment. Through the silly, happy, sad, and angry times, he has stood by my side, guiding me through the process of rebuilding my life after those crushing events. His hand has never let go of mine, and his legs have never run away.
And his heart has never wavered, staying true to only me.
"Yu...Yura..." I manage to say, and he nods, still here with me. Next to me. He never makes me feel empty; instead, I feel complete with him. I'm so deeply in love with him, even if he's unaware of it. Because...
I couldn't even speak properly before!
But now, I believe it's time to share my true feelings with him.
To let go of everything. Every single thing.
"Lo..ve... Y..yo..u..."
Tears stream down his face as he quickly rises, embracing me tightly. It's a hug so powerful that it feels like I can hardly breathe!
"This is the best day of my life!" he exclaims, pulling back and gazing into my eyes. I simply smile back at him. He deserves this love.
He is worthy of it.
