Chapter - 8

Elijah

'What was that? Why had Ilaria and Jacob run off like that? And how was she so sure that no one would attack us?'

These were the questions that plagued the mind of Elijah as well as his siblings who sat in the living room.

"The people who attacked must have wanted to kill us badly. Perhaps he was under compulsion to commit suicide if he was found." Nicklaus suggested.

Elijah shook his head.

"There was a large amount of distance between me and her. If anyone would try to kill us they would make sure to have at least decent aim. Besides every arrow went right towards her in places that can kill."

"That means..." Rebekah whispered.

"Someone wants to kill Ilaria. Not Jacob. Not a single arrow went near Jacob. Both went near Ilaria." Elijah said. "But I doubt we have to worry. She knows how to take care of herself. She stopped both arrows from killing her. She will be fine."

"Someone should watch them. They can't be left alone. When they sleep, anything could happen. Poison could be slipped into their food. She could go insane due to her visions!"Rebekah yelled hysterically.

Niklaus shook his head.

"From the way she looked at that body, I could tell she had seen enough bodies that seeing it didn't even disgust her. She must have fought wars before. She is experienced. As for poison being in their food, don't forget that Ilaria is part poisoner. Poison will just make her stronger. She probably mixes poison in her food. And as for her going insane? She is an Oracle. Only the oracle - witch queens have been known to go mad. And they haven't existed in centuries."

"What about my son? Jacob." Rebekah asked with anger in her voice.

" You can watch him if you wish sister but it seems unnecessary to me. Even he seems an experienced fighter and will anticipate any attacks on himself."

This was said by Freya.

"But did you see what she did? She knelt next to that body and did some spell. Her eyes clouded over and it was like she... like she... she" Freya was struggling for words.

"Like she was inside his mind." Kol said.

Freya shook her head. "Only advanced necromancers can do that. There is a fear of the person coming back to life if the mind is entered incorrectly. And for every life taken from the dark, one must be given to the light. Even advanced necromancers don't do enter minds of the dead for fear of insanity and death."

Kol shook his head." There is no other explanation I can think of unless she was mourning him. And she doesn't seem the type to mourn the death of someone she killed. She was too still to do anything. As if she herself were half dead."

"What if she was." Nicklaus interjected softly. His siblings stared at him and Elijah made a motion as if to say 'explain'.

"What if she entered the mind of that half dead man. What if while entering and while in his mind, she was stuck in the place where souls stay stuck when they are half dead. Maybe she was with him in the place between life and death."

Freya did some magic and broke a decorative crystal which was previously on the coffee table.

"Don't you listen! I just told you! Only advanced necromancers can do that. Your daughter isn't a necromancer Nicklaus! She's a witch! She's powerful but she can't raise the dead!"

"But she can."

The Mikaelson siblings turned towards an old woman standing in the doorway.

In an instant Nicklaus had her by her throat against the wall. She just smiled and then there were doubles of her. Then those doubled and then those.

When Niklaus looked back at his hand it was empty. He looked at them in hidden shock and they just laughed.

Then they became one and she smiled and said

"My name is Lora. I am an old witch. Almost but not quite as old as your mother. Esther, I believe her name is?"

Then she paused and looked at Freya.

"You look the way your mother did when she was your bodily age."

Then she paused again and stared at Rebekah.

"Just get to the point, witch." Kol spat.

And then Kol's body rose in the air and he was banged against the wall. He slumped on the floor but vamped up. He glared at Lora with hate. Lora ignored the glare Kol was sending her and said

"She will save your life" - she had pointed at Rebekah "three times. And you!" - she pointed at Kol "She will bring your soul back to the Earth where you currently are when it seems that all hope is lost and you are dead."

Kol had held his tongue till now but he couldn't do it any longer.

"But the only people who can do that are necromancers. Unless you drink unicorn blood but unicorns have been extinct for 4000 years now!"

The witch, Lora frowned. " But she is a necromancer! Did you not know that?"

Freya and Elijah both looked as they had just found out a great secret.

"I told you that she is a necromancer! Only necromancers can enter the minds of the nearly dead and only skilled necromancers can do it without fear of bringing the dead person back to life." Klaus's tone was triumphant.

"But my dear, there was still the risk that she could bring the person back to life. You should know that she is very brave to do that. Because for every life taken from the light-"

"- One must be given to the light. They know that already mother. Tell them about the prophecy. And a bit quickly. I have somewhere to be and important buisiness to conduct."

A warlock, presumably the witch's son, had appeared it seemed out of nowhere.

"Then my dear son, go and conduct your buisiness. I had not asked you to come here. You volunteered to." Lora said calmy and patiently, unlike her son. "But the prophecy. Yes, you are right. They should know about it." She said this line so softly the vampires barely heard it.

"There is a prophecy about the girl. My old age has made me forget the exact words but I remember what it means."

There was a slight pause in the period of which Lora attempted to remember the exact words while everyone except her son waited with baited breath and barely concealed impatience.

"The girl will save many lives. Most by healing but some by bring back from the heavens." There was a gasp from Freya at this.

"For every life taken - ?" Freya sputtered out.

Lora nodded gravely. "Of that I do not know. Whether she will kill or whether she will her self die, I do not know."

Freya nodded. No one was able to speak as they tried to think of what their niece's (Or in Klaus's case, daughter's) future held for her.

The witch's son who had been quite till now said "I'm going mom. I'll be back at night." He swiftly bent down and kissed his mother's cheek and seemingly disappeared.

Niklus broke the silence "How does he do that? appear and disappear?"

Lora replied with a frown. "I do not know. He never told me, eventhough I asked him to many times."

An awkward silence fell upon the room. Lora broke it.

"I must be leaving now. Much to do. Farewell Mikaelsons!"

Then she walked out the front door with a little less perkiness in her step than before.

Freya looked at Niklaus.

"You've got to stop whatever plans Ilaria has Nik. I've been looking for a loophole in the one dies, another is born and one life taken from the dead means one life given to the dead for about nine and a half centuries now. The loophole doesn't exist. There is no person, human or supernatural for whom the law isn't true. There -"

"What law is this?"

Elijah hadn't spoken a word till now but he spoke now.

Freya replied "For every life taken from or by the light, one must given to the light. The given life can be a sacrifice or an accidental death. But a death must occur. That's what the light witches say anyway."

"Then are there dark witches as well?" Kol meant it to be a joke but Freya nodded. "What? Why didn't you ever say so before?"

"I assumed you knew Kol! You're an original vampire who's been alive for a millenium! Besides you're always with Davina aren't you? She didn't tell you or what?!" Freya replied shockingly scathingly, Kol was shocked. He fell silent.

"Anyway" Klaus said "It may never happen you know. She's gonna be with us very soon."

Freya opened her mouth to say something when Rebekah said

"She didn't mention Jacob or Seraphina. Does that mean that they aren't in involved in the prophecy of that witch, Lora?"

Elijah shook his head. "Whenever prophecies are made, extremely close people are involved. That's just the way it is. Jacob is involved for sure. They're best friends, quite close. But unless Ilaria and Jacob get close to Serphina, she might not be involved.

Rebekah nodded with her lips set in a thin line and then an owl with a note attached to its leg soared through an open window and sat on Elijah's shoulder.
