Ruins (Part 2)
The human soon arrived at Toriel’s house, their long journey through the Ruins over. Toriel had taken them straight to her house, and they hadn’t encountered any problems. As they passed a giant tree, the human noticed the flower again. Before she could say anything, however, it disappeared, and Toriel brought them inside.
The main area of the home was massive! It stretched off to the left, right, and there was even a little staircase leading down into who knows where! Toriel brought them to the right, where it seemed there were several rooms. One door had a note on it that said “Room Under Renovations”. Toriel brought them to the door on the far left.
“This will be your room, my child. I hope you’ll enjoy your stay.”
Toriel rubbed the top of the human’s head. It felt...kinda nice, actually. Toriel then walked off, leaving the human to their own devices.
The human decided to take a nap, so they went in and layed down on the bed, falling asleep.
The human watched as several blurry images flashed by, before eventually slowing down to a clear image. In that image she saw two skeletons, one white with blue clothes, one black with red clothes. They appeared to be sitting in some kind of diner, eating food. The human saw they were having a conversation, but they couldn’t hear the words. Suddenly, a flaming monster appeared and seemed to take their orders. A few minutes later, the same monster came back with a plate of fries and a plate with a burger on it. The white skeleton got the burger, and the black one got the fries. Then the world shifted again, and showed a female fish monster, hitting a punching bag with a picture of the black skeleton taped to it. She suddenly punched it so hard, it exploded. Sighing, she threw it onto a pile of similar punching bags, all with that same skeleton’s picture on it. She put up another punching bag, and taped another picture to it. The scene shifted once more, and showed yet another skeleton with a sort of lizard monster. They appeared to be working on some sort of machine, but it exploded when they activated it. Luckily, the skeleton monster had erected a wall of bones to shield them from the blast. Then the human woke up.
The human woke up to see they had rolled out of bed, a slice of pie just inches from their face.
Toriel must have made this...smells pretty good.
The human grabbed it and ate it, enjoying the taste. They stood up and walked over to a mirror. Their t-shirt was ripped in several places from the fall, and their pants had suffered the same fate. So they walked back to the main room, and went to the left side this time, finding Toriel reading in a chair. Walking over, Toriel looked up from her book.
“Good morning, little one. I hope you slept well.”
“I slept fine, actually. Thanks for the pie, by the way.”
Toriel smiled. “I didn’t know if you preferred butterscotch or cinnamon, so I just made one with both.”
The human shrugged. “Hey, do you have any extra clothes? Mine aren’t exactly...in the best shape right now.”
Toriel seemed surprised, and then responded kindly. “Of course! I’m sorry I did not notice before. You might be able to find some in the closet next to your bed.”
“Thanks!”
Toriel went back to reading, and the human walked back to their room. They opened the closet, and found several of the same outfit: green and yellow striped sweater and shorts. However, there was one different outfit. Instead of a green and yellow striped sweater, this one was a red and green striped t-shirt, with shorts. The human changed out of the clothes they were wearing and into the new clothes.
These are pretty comfortable clothes, actually.
The human started walking back to Toriel, and as they passed the stairs they felt a cold breeze blowing. They shivered, and continued walking, planning on asking Toriel about it.
Toriel had moved from her chair to the kitchen. She appeared to be making another pie, and was humming a little tune to herself. The human tugged Toriel’s on Toriel’s robe, getting her attention.
“Oh, hello little one. I see you’ve found a new outfit.”
The human nodded, before asking a question.
“What’s that cold breeze coming from the bottom of the stairs?”
Toriel froze for a moment, before going back to what she was doing. “It is nothing, my child. Do not worry about it.”
The human shrugged, then asked another question.
“So...how do I get home? I mean, you’re nice and all, but I’ve got stuff I need to take care of on the surface.”
Toriel froze again, then left the kitchen. “Excuse me for a moment, I must go do something.”
The human followed them, going down the stairs to find a long, purple hallway. Toriel was standing a few feet ahead. When she spoke, she sounded upset.
“You wish to return home, do you not? Up ahead is the exit to the ruins. I’m going to destroy it.” She continued on, stopping a few more feet ahead.
Is she...hesitating?
The human kept going, still following her. Toriel spoke again, sounding a mix of mad and upset.
“You do not understand. If you leave, he, Asgore, will kill you.” She moved on ahead again, this time disappearing around a corner.
The human followed her, again, and then finally stopped in front of a huge door. Toriel stood in front of it, staring. Then she turned around to face the human.
“If you’re so insistent on leaving, prove yourself.” Her hands caught fire. “PROVE TO ME YOU’RE STRONG ENOUGH TO SURVIVE!!”
The world turned black again, but flickered back to normal as Toriel collapsed to the ground, crying. “Look at me...I was about to fight a child...what have I become?” She sobbed hard, face in her hands.
The human slowly walked up to them, hugging them. Toriel, surprised, took a moment to hug back. But when she did, it was the warmest and most comfortable hug the human had ever had. She let go, looked down at the human, and stood up. She opened the door, looking back at the human.
“I cannot keep you here forever. I understand this. But when you do choose to leave, it is a one-way trip. These doors cannot open from the outside.” She walked away, leaving the door open.
The human looked back, watched as Toriel went around the corner, then pushed onwards into the cold.
