(At Gensokyo, both Marisa's team and Reimu's team are seen being easily overwhelmed. Then two figures are seen being knocked down, they are Marisa and Reimu. As they get up, they look up to see their tormentors, Kamen Rider Mirror and Kamen Rider Femme.)

Mirror: Your gods forgot about you!

(Then he grabs Marisa in the collar.)

Mirror: You have failed to defend your own people once you chose to fight among yourselves.

(Then he throws her down while Femme steps on Reimu's chest. Suddenly they hear a voice.)

????: Stop!

(Then the duo turns to see Mega Man X and Zero.)

Mirror: Hmph! So you're the Maverick Hunters.

X: What do you want with Reimu and Marisa.

Mirror: I'm just showing them the consequences of their civil war. Nothing personal.

Reimu: (weakly) What are you two... doing here?

Marisa: (weakly) Zero...

Zero: Hang in there, Marisa.

Mirror: Don't worry, I won't kill them.

(X and Zero get confused by his remark.)

Mirror: I was just setting their heads straight and their focus on stopping this "Kang the Conqueror".

Reimu: (weakly) So... Batman wants our Guardians... to fight his battles... just like Spider-Man did...

X: We were in the wrong side, Reimu.

Marisa: (weakly) So you... recognized your mistakes... good... to know... X...

Reimu: (weakly) I... won't let... my people... to bleed... for other people...

Mirror: Femme, put her to sleep.

(Femme then kicks Reimu's face and prepares to fight X and Zero, and so does Mirror.)

Mirror: Let's go!

(X and Zero get in their fighting stances and prepare to fight both Kamen Riders. Suddenly X feels a headache like someone is trying to control him.)

Femme: Come on, don't be shy.

(Zero charges at Mirror, and tries to slash him, but the Kamen Rider dodges.)

Mirror: Amateur.

(X shoots Femme, who dodges the shot while giggling. Zero gets kicked by Mirror.)

Mirror: That all you've got?

Zero: Hmph, no. Now I'll start fighting seriously!

Mirror: Very well. Knight Form!

(Then Kamen Rider Mirror changes from Odin to Knight.)

Zero: So you can change forms. Can't say I'm impressed.

Mirror: You will be.

SWORD VENT!

(Then Kamen Rider Mirror and Zero have a brief clash as they fight evenly matched.)

Mirror: Hmm... self-taught. And not half-bad. Still...

(Then Mirror parties Zero's Z-Saber, and then he kicks him before punching him.)

Mirror: Your technique lacks something.

(Meanwhile, X is seen charging at Femme, who counters by slashing his chest various times.)

Femme: This will be unpleasant.

(As the fight goes on, Zero and X are still in disadvantage, but then Mirror and Femme decided to stop fighting.)

X: (confused) Huh?

Mirror: We're not here to fight you. We're here to help you save the world.

Femme: Now listen to reason, guys.

Zero: I know what happened. First, they take out communications. Then... (loud booms are heard) they invade!

(Sure enough, the same "meteorites" streak down towards Gensokyo. Counter- measures are fired, but the Betas are just too numerous. The heroes stand back-to-back, preparing for the attack.)

X: They're your people, but protecting them is my duty as well. Let me help you, Marisa.

(Marisa then gets up as a dozen of Betas march down the hall towards the battlefield.)

Marisa: Cover me.

(Zero charges at the Betas with his Z-Saber and slashes each one of them. Suddenly, Moonstone comes from behind and blasts X's back. He looks up to see Moonstone on the rafters.)

Moonstone: Mmm... I thought the only regimer here was Reimu.

X: Moonstone...

Moonstone: Let's not beat around the bush. Captain Marvel's in hiding. Maybe down here. Tell me: where's your space friend?

X: Didn't you hear? I "unfriended" her. So did Gensokyo.

Moonstone: (glides down) Liar! I don't need a golden lasso to make you tell the truth!

(Moonstone is an excellent fighter and no doubt about that. But simple moon powers and bloodlust seem to have little effect against the greatest of the Maverick Hunters. She gets some good swipes in, but X's will is too much for her.)

X: Bad girl!

(Explosions occur again and X looks for the others. He finds the heroes in another area, fighting off countless Betas. As Marisa uses her magic broom, X shoots a charged shot to blow the other away. Zero puts his Z-Saber through the head of the last one.)

Marisa: My people are getting flanked! Hold this line! Be our rear guard!

X: On it! And you?

Zero: She and these two are the vanguard!

(As Marisa, Mirror and Femme leave, the two Maverick Hunters hear a pounding as Bane is seen landing roughly while holding the head of a soldier.)

Bane: Mega Man X and Zero (throws the soldier) You have return.

Zero: Yeah, he's back where he belongs. Kinda like you in a prison cell.

Bane: Even when he broke his friendship with you, X didn't show me a proper respect. But now I'll break you in front of him, Zero.

(If one person has as much power as Zero, it's Bane. AND he has the strength to back it up. But Zero keeps him at a distance with his Z-Buster, pounding the heck out of the roided-up luchador. As Bane staggers, Zero kicks him to the ground.)

Zero: Break this!

(X's eyes glow red and he shoots Bane, who just got up as he fights his rage, Zero walks up to him.)

Zero: X, are you alright?

(Then Marisa, Mirror and Femme come in.)

Marisa: We're locking down the gates but the fight's not over.

Mirror: (to Zero) Is he alright?

X: (shakes it off) Sorry. I was... somewhere else. Where's this leave us?

Marisa: You put yourselves at risk for Gensokyo. Maybe you CAN be trusted.

Zero: So...you're in?

(Suddenly a portal opens, and two reploids come out of it. They are Lumine and Colonel Redips.)

Lumine: (clenches his fist) Mega Man X.

Marisa: Mavericks?

X: Lumine and Colonel Redips. Agents of vengeance. Don't worry, Zero and I will handle these two.

Marisa: Good luck.

(The four circle each other.)

Zero: You've been messing X up, haven't you, Lumine?

(Colonel Redips shows an hologram of Sigma)

Redips: Sigma's troops have slaughtered millions! And their victims demand vengeance!

Lumine: You may have cast off your maverick side, but you are NOT absolved!

X: You're not the first person to tell me that.

Redips: I would tear you apart, X. But I sense you have a higher calling! A spark glowing within you! A spark...of RAGE!

(Then Colonel Redips and Lumine surround X in an energy circle, and he feels some pain in his head.)

X: ARGH! What are you doing?! What is this...this anger?!?

Lumine: You may have overcome your fears, but you STILL betrayed the Maverick Hunters! (looks at Zero) HURT your allies! How could you EVER forgive yourself?!

X: (grunting) I...I can't...

Redips: THEN SUFFER!!!

(Then X is almost being overwhelmed by rage, but Zero decides to speak.)

Zero: X! Remember Doctor Light! What he said!

Lumine: Embrace your hatred, X!

(X then struggles and eventually manages to break free from the energy circle.)

X: You're right. I hate myself for what I've done. But my WILL is stronger than my hate!

Zero: Prepare to die, Mavericks.

(The two Mavericks decide to try to kill X since they failed to convert him. But the Maverick Hunter has his best friend Zero to back him up. It's a tough battle, but both Mavericks are knocked down. They slam their fists in anger.)

Lumine: Your world is burning! And, when it is ashes, you will BEG for vengeance!

(Lumine creates another portal and he and Redips leave through it.)

X: The Maverick Hunters don't need to know about that one.

(Back on Kang's ship, tendrils come down and plug into Kang's computer, feeding him data.)

Kang: The Beta phase is complete. Earth's defense is irreversibly compromised. Begin the countdown!

(From out of the skies, ships drop down. They start towards the cities, with Kang's ship "watching" with glowing "eyes".)

(Back at the hideout, Batman walks up to the heroes watching the plan unfold.)

Ben 10: I circled the globe as XLR8. Larger ships are being positioned of these major cities. (points at red marks on a map)

Zero: Even with Marisa's Guardians, we're still badly outnumbered. (to Batman) What's the plan? You HAVE one, right?

Batman: We have to evacuate the occupied cities before taking on Brainiac. But we need firepower.

Yagyu: Any heavy-hitters on the Latveria payroll?

Daniel: Only Scorpion and Sub-Zero. But they're busy.

Powergirl: Too busy for THIS?

Batman: They're the last line of defense if Kang moves on Spider-Man.

Kevin: Well, if Kang doesn't try busting him out of prison, Iron Patriot and Captain Marvel will. And, the worse things get, the more people'll think we should let him out to help. (The others, including Gwen, look at him suspiciously; he holds up his hands defensively) I'm just saying...

Colonel: Hope the enemies turned friends can hold down the most wanted man in the world.

Daniel: Scorpion and Sub-Zero together, they're the most powerful team we have.

(Then the chapter ends)
