So We Begin
This tale is different from most detective stories. Most of those begin with the simple phrase ,"It was a dark and stormy night." It was not, however, dark or stormy outside. The sky was clear on this nice sunny afternoon. What a lousy way to start your story.
You now sit in your office, looking down at the paperwork on your desk. No new assignments, just a bunch of tax forms and bills. No one truly needed a private eye in these times. Your last paying job was when you helped find a lost cat. These days, you never get any action.
Besides all the clutter on your flimsy desk, you also have a half-full glass of whiskey. It isn't any good anymore, but you haven't come around to disposing of it yet. It's also been sitting there so long that a permanent ring has formed on the wood surface of your desk. Other than that, there is also your landline. It hardly works most of the times, but you still haven't upgraded to a cell phone.
Your office isn't in the best shape either. It hasn't been cleaned in who knows how long. The most you've ever done was take out the garbage or occasionally wiping your desk off. It's become so run down that the drywall in the corners of the room are chipping off. The wooden flooring has now been stained a muddy brown, which honestly isn't too bad. Still it would be nice to clean up this pig sty one day.
You now look in your pockets. All you come across are some business cards. When you started your little office you thought these would really bring in the customers so you printed tons of them. To you misfortune the only good they've every done is take up space. They simply read:
Mystery got you stuck?
Problems got you backed into a corner?
Call the Parker Investigation Office.
Tell them Jack sent you.
1-800-Get-Clue
Honestly, you could have made a better card. You now put them back into your pocket, and look over to a clock on the wall. It was still 3:00, and it is a slow day. You still have a bit of time to kill before closing time.
What will you do?
