I feel like I am floating, somewhere in space. I look around to see stars everywhere. “Where am I?” I whisper to myself. I reach out to a star and suddenly I see the sky. I sigh as I see the cotton like clouds and the bright, flaming orb in the sky. I bring my hand to my eyes to cover them from the sun.

I sit up and mess up my hair. I should tell you about myself, I’m Lightning. My hair is a dark pastel purple and my eyes are a mix of a dull yellow and electric blue. My clothes? My shirt and jeans are torn up from how I live and they lost all colour so it does not matter much on the colour. My skin is pale and I look like a skeleton. I had wolf ears and a wolf tail also which were almost the same colour as my hair, only darker.

Imagine, a fifteen-year-old living on the streets since they were seven. Cruel, isn’t it?

I chuckle quietly and sit up. I rub my eye while looking to my side, I stare at the top-hatted figure beside me.

I scream and try to get away from it. It looks at me quietly – I think, it doesn't have eyes at all, so I can't tell at all – then tilts its head.

Its silver like hair is up to its hips and tied up. Its top hat is black, a silver ribbon wrapped around it. They have had a mask on which is fully black – which means I can't see their eyes, mouth or anything unless they take off their mask, maybe its eyes since they might have them closed – it seems like it was made for them especially. They wore a black tuxedo and a silver undershirt. Their pants and shoes were also black. They had kind of human hands which were covered by their silver gloves.

They stare at me for a few minutes then give me a letter. I cautiously take the letter and watch them. “What do you want!?” I scream at them. They stare at me and point at the letter then get up and leave.

I stare at the letter and open it then read the paper.

'Go to the Trinity Forest and follow the blue glowing flowers. Once there are no more blue glowing flowers keep going straight. Don't look back when you see the green flower, don't panic when you hear growling. Keep walking. Once you see a mansion you can run to it as you are safe. You may look back if you want. You may invite yourself in after that, there is food in the kitchen that you can have.

I stare at the paper and sigh to myself. “Time to pack up,” I look at my stuff and start packing up quickly.

I stare at the forest with distaste. 'Why do I have to go again, is it the food?' I think to myself.

I shrug it off and start walking into the forest, following the blue glowing flowers like it said to. I keep walking then see no more of those weird flowers. I sighed and started walking in a straight line.

After who knows how long, I see the green flower. I sigh in disappointment and keep walking forward. I stare at the dark abyss that probably might kill me and I will probably just accept death.

I hear something running at me from my left and crash into me. I look at whatever just crashed into me as I try to get up. My eyes widen and I stutter from the shock of what I saw on top of me. “What the fuck, what is a wolf doing in these woods!?” I scream out loud, the wolf looks at me in shock and puts a paw on my mouth as if it’s trying to silence me.

I try to get the paw off my mouth then I hear something rustling in the grass. I stay silent as I listen to the thing walk around then growl and leave. I push the wolf off quickly and glare at the wolf as I quickly try to stand up.

Brushing my clothes from the dirt, I glare at the wolf. “What the hell is a wolf doing here!?” I look at the wolf who now has a human face, hands and human… everything. “Oh, you know. A small poor wolf out in the wild and then meets a Sephron who invites me to live somewhere in the forest,” He says in a smooth voice.

“Ah, I see…,” I said as I did a doubletake “WAIT A WEREWOLF!?” I scream in shock. He looks at me and nods. “Yep, a werewolf. More like a Wolf Shifter,” He chuckles.

This guy had midnight blue hair that was up to his neck and dark skin. He had two different eye colours, his left eye was baby blue and his right eye was a green that was calming. Black wolf ears popped out of his hair and a tail was wagging behind him. A collar was around his neck, it looked like it was old as it was rusting already. He was wearing a worn down, light blue sweater and torn up, dark blue jeans. His sneakers were dirty and old, showing that he most likely ran a lot.

“I’m Shade,” he introduces himself. “I’m Lightning,” I tell him. He nods and smiles to himself. “We’re looking behind ourselves so we should run quickly,” He laughs as he picks me up. “Wait-“ I was cut off when I heard a loud growling and something running at us. Shade starts running with me on his shoulder and I am screaming.

“Calm down! Your lucky I am carrying you Lightning!” He laughs out loud “I see the mansion!” I see the creature stop and glare at us hungrily. I sigh in relief as Shade puts me down. “Alright Shorty, lets go inside the mansion” He grins at me as I huff angrily at the nickname ‘Shorty’ and I go to the mansions doorstep. 

The Shifter follows me as he starts talking. “They said we can go in and eat whatever so…,” He opens the door – more like kick open – and we both go inside.

“You could have opened the door like a normal person,” “Nah, it’s easier to do that cause now people know we are here!” He chuckles and sniffs the air. “Do you smell that?” Shade starts drooling a bit as I sniff the air also and start drooling also. I nod my head eagerly as I grin. “Race ya!” We both say at the time and start running to the smell.

We slam the door open and see the food we have been waiting for. Shade starts eating the chicken as I eat whatever I can get my hands on.

After a few hours of eating we sigh happily and sit down. “That was amazing food…,” Shade sighs happily. I nod in agreement as I smile a bit. “I’m glad you like my cooking so much,” A bright voice comes from the entrance. We both look at the entrance to see a lady.

She had fair skin and light blue hair. Her eyes were a pastel green with a tint of red. Her clothes were fashionable also, a pastel pink sweater with black shorts. She probably had a suit under since I could see it poking out of the sweater. The lady also had black cat stockings and boots to go with it. She had fox blue ears poking out of her hair and a blue tail popping out behind her.

We hear somebody laughing a bit from behind her. We see a girl, maybe our age? She had soft red and pastel blue hair. Her eyes were… weird…. her left eye was a bright red and her right eye was black with the pupil a bloody red and she had pale skin. She wore a black hoodie, a white undershirt - which was barely visible - and torn up jeans with black boots. She also had red fox ears and a red fox tail.

“Hey sis, I bet they thought you were a woman~!” the red fox laughs out. The blue fox stares at her and shakes her head as she chuckles quietly. “I’m sorry about her, I presume you two are Shade and Lightning?” She smiles at us as we nod our heads. “Great! I’m Sapphire and the red fox is-,“ “-I am Phantom! Now, I want to ask you all a question quickly,” Sapphire was interrupted by Phantom.

“How old do you think me and my sis are?” Phantom questions us. We look at each other and think. “Well I think Sapphire is twenty and Phantom is fifteen?” Shade and I say in unison. Phantom laughs “Wrong! I’m thirteen and my sister is sixteen!” I stare at them in shock and blink. “You both look older than you are…,” “I know, I thought I was fifteen once also~” Phantom teased.

I glare at her and huff angrily. “Shut up,” I growl out from the embarrassment. Phantom laughs but stops when she gets kicked in the head from Sapphire.

“Sorry about her, a lot of people mistake our age so she does this guessing game where they have to guess our age,” The blue haired laughs out. I sigh out loudly and Shade laughs a bit. “That’s a pretty fun game though!” He grins a bit.

Phantom laughs a bit and grins as she nods. “It is pretty fun! Nobody knows your age at all and they all get it wrong!” She says. Shade nods and they start talking about stuff that I don’t know.

I see the Sephron come in the kitchen and sit me and Shade down in front of him.

“Now children, calm down and let me introduce you to everything,” A deep rumble comes from him. We stare in awe as our head tilts in confusion. “What do you mean?” He moves his mask up a bit to show his mouth as he starts speaking. “I am Reapier, it’s nice to see new children living here now,” He chuckles.

“L-living here…,” Me and Shade start tearing up and crying. “Yes, you are now my children. I hope you en-“ He was cut off by us tackling him into a hug “Thank you dad!” We both cry out from happiness.

I slip on my lilac coat and put on my boots. Sighing quietly as I stretch and open the curtains and look at the town. “A beautiful day,” I say to myself as I open my door.

“I can’t believe it has been ten years,” I walk to the kitchen slowly as I hear someone running past me. “HEY YOU GOT A HEADSTART SHADE!” I scream out and start running after him. We both open the door at the same time and sigh quietly.

“It was a tie,” We both say at the same time and chuckle to ourselves. “Hey! Hurry up or I will eat your food!” Phantom yells out. We both sit down and eat our food quickly as we glare at her. Sapphire laughs and smiles to herself as she continues to eat her food.

“Hey hey! Don’t eat too much!” Shadow says angrily. Who is Shadow? Well, you see, that’s a story for another day.

I poke my tongue at Shadow as I get a paper shoved in my face by Jason.

“Oi, a new job for you and Shade,” He says in a monotone voice. I take it eagerly and read it. Humming in a tone that only says ‘I shall take this challenge’ I finish my food and stand up. “Hurry up Shade! We have to grab a new kid!” I say as Shade sighs quietly. “Fine fine,” He finishes up his food quickly and stands up as he wipes his face.

We both go to the entrance of the mansion and open the door, the sun glaring out at us as the clouds cover the sun a bit. I sigh and Shade chuckles quietly. “What are you laughing at?” I pout at him “Hey, don’t pout at me and act cute! We all know you’re a huge asshole,” He chuckles out as we both start laughing.

“Alright, let’s go out and grab a dead body,” I say “Hey, isn’t that a bit morbid?” “Yeah, but your more morbid than me” “That’s Rude!” We start talking to each other and sigh quietly.

“You know, you’re really weird when you change to your full wolf form,” I say and grin. He glares at me and growls. “You’re scary when you’re killing people also,”

“Fuck you,”

“Gladly~”

“God damn it Shade, you’re not supposed to react like that!”
