"You're in a good mood today," Jennie commented as they waited for their order to arrive.
Chaeyoung blinked at the mirror she was holding as she checked on her makeup. That was when she realized what had been the cause for the comment to come out of her friend's mouth.
She realized that her eyes weren't as dark and dull like how they had been since the past weeks. She saw the smile that hung onto her face even when she wasn't smiling physically. She could see some brightness in the expression she was wearing at the moment. There was light in her face.
"I guess I am," she shrugged nonchalantly, trying to hide a smile that threatened to show up.
"What seems to be the reason?" Jennie asked curiously, slightly leaning forward. "Did something happen?"
Reason? She thought about it, trying to find it in her mind although it was unnecessary.
Perhaps, the reason why she seemed to be in a high spirit was because of that one kiss that she could still feel on her lips. That one rough kiss was probably what had started it all. Because after that night of when Jungkook had pulled her by the head and gave her a kiss that had sent her body into a wonderful kind of shiver, she had spent every night exchanging simple texts with him that would always end with them telling each other good night.
"Nothing, I guess," Chaeyoung muttered. "The whole process of my work is progressing rather smoothly. I guess that's the cause of it."
Jennie didn't seem convinced but she didn't press on it. "Good for you, then," she mumbled and looked away with a very noticeable sadness in her eyes.
Observing Jennie for a couple minutes, Chaeyoung searched for her friend's eyes as she tilted her head slightly to get a better look of Jennie's small face. "Jennie? Are you okay?" she asked worriedly. Jennie had always had that look like nothing would ever bother her. Sometimes she looked like she worried at nothing at all and sometimes it would seem like she was annoyed at everything and everyone.
But knowing her for a very long time, even before knowing Taehyung, Chaeyoung could see past through it. She could see that there was something wrong with her friend, and that her mind was full of thoughts that she feared to happen.
"Jennie," she called softly, holding her hand on the table. "Something's definitely wrong but I don't know what it is so spit it out now."
Her friend shook her head lightly, tried to smile but the fakeness of it was so obvious.
"I said tell me about it," Chaeyoung pressed.
Finally lifting her eyes to gaze at Chaeyoung, Jennie took the longest seconds to breathe in before she exhaled heavily. "I think..." she swallowed hard. "I think Namjoon's going to break up with me."
Chaeyoung's eyes widened in obvious shock. "What?" The word dropped heavily. "Why do you think so?"
Jennie shrugged, trying to play it cool but her voice wavered slightly when she replied. "I can feel it in my gut. He's been avoiding me so much that it becomes so fucking obvious."
"What do you mean he's been avoiding you? You see each other every single day. You guys are together for almost 24 hours, so inseparable that it almost threw me up every time I see you two."
Jennie chuckled softly but the soft smile on her face mirrored sadness. "True, but I feel the distance these days, Chaeyoung. He used to give me all his attention before I even started talking, but now I have to work for it and even that, I have to ask him a few times if he was even listening to me because he just couldn't fucking focus. He got his focus on his phone almost all the damn time."
"Do you know who he's texting?" Chaeyoung asked carefully. "It could be Tae."
A loud scoff escaped Jennie as she rolled her eyes. "Taehyung? Namjoon never would have pushed his phone away if he was just contacting Taehyung. When I tried to glance at his phone, he moved it away quickly and sometimes he'd answer the phone somewhere far away from me."
No matter how hard Chaeyoung forced herself to believe Jennie's instinct on Namjoon cheating on her, she couldn't. He was very loyal to her and had his eyes on her alone all the time. No matter how many girls were around him, he never looked at them the way he looked at Jennie. He was as annoying as a human could be sometimes, but he wasn't like that to Jennie.
As far as Chaeyoung knew, Namjoon's priorities other than his family were his work, Jennie and Taehyung. The three had been his top priorities for as long as they had been in his life. So imagining Namjoon diverting his sole attention of his love life to a different woman was an impossible task to do.
"It could be just his work?" Chaeyoung tried to assure her friend.
"No, Chaeyoung. It's not. What does he need to hide if it's just his work?" she asked with a flat tone.
"Come on, Jen," she gave her friend a small reassuring smile. "I'm sure it's nothing. You think too much."
"No, I'm not," Jennie said with a glare. "I'm sure he's seeing someone else. I'm a hundred percent sure, Chaeyoung. He lied to me yesterday."
Furrowing her brows, Chaeyoung asked, "What did he lie to you about?"
"He told me he was going to be busy for the rest of the day and that he could only see me at home. I was strolling down the street with my coworker when I saw him flirting with the florist. I knew she had her eyes on him because I noticed the looks exchanged by them when Namjoon and I went there to buy flowers for Taehyung's mom. That fucking bitch."
Chaeyoung stared at her friend and opened her mouth to say something but she was left speechless. She almost laughed but quickly closed her mouth and looked away immediately when she felt herself was about to smile. This would be a good story to tell Taehyung.
Namjoon had gone to the florist for some suggestions of flowers he should be using for the proposal event. He was supposed to go with Taehyung but the latter was occupied with some work that he hadn't been able to accompany his friend. They had actually met a few times and the looks exchanged that Jennie referred to was most probably secret question and answer between Namjoon and the florist; she might have given him a look of asking whether Jennie was the girl and Namjoon might have given a look of what could be translated as a 'yes'. That was what Chaeyoung had in mind because Taehyung had told her something similar about it that he heard from Namjoon.
Forcing herself not to show any hint of smile on her face, Chaeyoung squeezed her friend's hand and said softly, "Trust me, Jennie. I don't think he's seeing someone else."
"Then what's the deal with that florist?"
"I'm sure that's not flirting, maybe they were just talking."
"They were flirting. I'm sure of that," Jennie argued firmly and Chaeyoung just sighed with her brows lifted. There was nothing she could say to assure Jennie.
What she could do right now was to be patient because she honestly couldn't wait for the proposal to happen.

Jungkook lied on the couch with an arm beneath his head. His right hand was above him, holding his phone as he scrolled through the messages between him and Chaeyoung.
You: How was work today?
Pasta: Nothing unordinary happened, but things have been going well.
You: Bang Sihyuk will be pleased for the new design in his office.
Pasta: That he will.
You: If he's not pleased when it's done, I'll beat his fussy ass for you. ;)
Pasta: That'd actually be nice.
Pasta: A little sleepy now, I'm gonna head off to bed.
You: Alright. Good night.
Pasta: You too. Sleep well.
You: Bang Sihyuk was acting cute today.
Pasta: Meaning?
You: It was quite noisy in his office with all the working being done.
You: So he kinda let us off early.
Pasta: You must be so grateful.
You: I am. Totally.
You: It's your favorite show on the tv. Are you watching?
Pasta: I am watching it.
You: I knew you would.
You: I'm not going to disturb you.
You: Have fun watching it.
Pasta: Good night, Jungkook.
You: Good night Chaeyoungie.
"It's happening again," Yoongi's voice came and Jungkook looked away from his phone in an instant to focus on the older male. Yoongi made his way to a chair situated across the couch Jungkook was lying on.
"What's happening again?" Hoseok questioned, sipping his drink and made a gesture of asking Jungkook to give him space to sit.
"Did you not see his face?" Yoongi asked, nodding his head at Jungkook and the latter just raised his brow questioningly. "He's making that gross face again."
Jungkook had his brows knitted in confusion. He pressed the button on the side of his phone to lock it and muttered, "What the hell are you even talking about?"
Hoseok looked confused for a moment before he let out a long 'Ah', showing how he understood what Yoongi meant by the 'gross face' statement. "Well, I see that you've made up with her?"
He knew what his friend was talking about or whom he was referring to but his response was so eager to jump out of him. "Huh?" Inside, he was celebrating it merrily.
"That I'm-so-fucking-in-love face you're making, can you tone it down a bit?" Yoongi said tonelessly.
Jungkook rolled his eyes and leaned back in the seat. He wasn't going to listen to his friend's so-called advice. He should be showing that face to everyone in the whole wide world instead because of how lucky he felt he had been. Sure, it didn't start off immediately to a level where they would be just exactly how they were before the fight. But this slow process was what made it wonderful.
Mistakes served as lessons and Jungkook learned a lot from them. Rushing things had turned things into sweetness for a fleeting moment for them, it didn't give them eternity when a single fight became bigger. Unlike others who found eternal sweetness in a short amount of time, like she said, they weren't meant for that. So if the healing process of the relationship between him and Chaeyoung was going to be in a slow pace, he was beyond grateful. It was better than not getting the heal it deserved at all.
"My only advice is," Hoseok placed a hand on his shoulder, "don't fuck it up this time."
A small smile that slowly turned bigger was on his face. Nodding his head softly as he looked at the wallpaper of his lockscreen, Jungkook said, "I swear I won't."

"Will I see you tomorrow morning?"
Chaeyoung felt that familiar feeling of flutter happening in her stomach as she glanced at the pair of hopeful eyes staring down at her. It still felt a tiny bit awkward to stare into Jungkook's eyes for long, and although she knew that the barrier separating them was slowly crumbling down albeit slow, it still didn't erase the inability of her to let a smile freely paint itself on her countenance when he was looking at her.
"Yes, I'm going out for a run tomorrow morning," she replied with a small smile briefly and looked down.
Honestly, she missed the way things had been before they started going out before. They showed some interests towards each other and although shy, it wasn't as awkward as nowadays had been. Nevertheless, she was beyond pleased that there wasn't as much tension as before.
"I'll see you tomorrow then," he said softly. "Do you want me to wait for you?"
Despite the multiple 'No's in her mind, a different word was on the tip of her tongue and before she could stop herself, she said it. "Sure."
He smiled broadly at her and let his hand fall to his side from blocking the door. The door to the elevator finally closed slowly and before he disappeared completely from her sight, he managed to say, "Good night, Chaeyoung."
When she was ready to go to bed, a thought occurred. It wasn't wrong, but it felt like it when she didn't wish him good night. Though she never regarded these things so much before, it felt like even the simplest thing like this mattered so much. With a soft sigh and a tiny smile on her face, she sent him a text and didn't hope for a reply.
Her phone dinged then and it was embarrassing at how quick she was to check on it. With a soft bite against her lip, she tried to suppress her smile as she stared at the message he had sent to her as a reply.
Kookie: You should be sleeping.
You: So should you.
Kookie: I will. Go to sleep now.
You: I am going to sleep. Good night.
Kookie: Have a great night and I'll see you tomorrow.
Kookie: Don't oversleep.
You: Says the heavy sleeper.
Kookie: Stop replying and sleep.
Chaeyoung chuckled at that and put her phone away. She pulled the duvet up to her chin and hoped for a nice dream as she let her eyelids fall shut.

He couldn't help the smile on his face the moment Chaeyoung appeared beside him. Jungkook turned to face her completely and she gave him a tiny smile that soon covered with her hand as she pushed a few strands of hair out of her face.
"Shall we go?" he asked.
Chaeyoung nodded and they started to jog side by side. He tried to keep distance between them so as not to bump into each other but it was like there was a magnetic pull; he kept finding himself moving closer as their shoes slapped against the gray pavement. More than a couple times their arms brushed against each other, and more than a couple times he accidentally bumped into her from the side but she was the one who would be quick to say sorry shyly, a sweet chuckle escaped her each and every time.
After about five minutes or so, they sped up a little. He could easily overtake her but this was a chance to be by her side for as long as he could, so he matched her pace and enjoyed the noises their shoes made. Unlike the previous time they had met, there were more people today. Jungkook noticed about two people cycling around and maybe there were five to six people around on the run. Fewer drunken men this time, and that was actually good.
Both of them decided to slow down a little after running for minutes. They jogged in a steady pace and Jungkook managed to glance at the now sweaty face of Park Chaeyoung. Even with the minimal amount of sunlight during that early morning, her damp face glistened beautifully. Some of the strands of her hair stuck to the side of her face while the ones tied into a ponytail swayed elegantly behind her head. Jungkook didn't even realize that he was already left behind.
"You're okay?" she asked, her steps slowed before she stopped and turned to look at him.
Clearing his throat, Jungkook quickened his steps to reach where she was standing wearing a concerned expression on her face. "Yeah, I'm okay," he chuckled softly and she smiled, nodding her head lightly before looking down.
They were just walking then, each step was slow and each step somehow magically brought them even closer to each other. Eventually, their arms brushed against each other and Jungkook waited to see if she was going to make space between them again every time it happened, but she didn't. The back of their hands touched once in a while, and Jungkook failed to keep the smile hidden away from his face when she let that, too, happened.
"It's Jennie that's going to get married," Chaeyoung said softly after their long silence filled in the void. "Not me."
Jungkook nodded even though she was looking down at that time. Ever since the moment she told him that she wasn't going to get married, there was an unexplainable sort of feeling running through his system. Despite not knowing whether or not what she meant by that was either she wasn't going to get married to Taehyung soon or she wasn't considering on marriage at all for her entire lifetime, the feeling was just there inside Jungkook. It made him feel so relieved and so content. The worry he had about it seemed to disperse as each day passed.
The only weird part of it all was that the dream never seemed to end. Every night when he got lost in the dreamland, he hadn't been able to dream of nothing else but of her in a wedding dress with Taehyung by her side. The dream had haunted him since the first time he had it. The difference now was that when he woke up, he didn't exactly feel so worried like before.
"Why did you think it was me?" she asked softly, and Jungkook had never felt so satisfied with life when he found her searching for his eyes.
Jungkook hesitated for a few moments. A chuckle escaped him and he scratched the back of his head. "I dreamed about it."
"So you assumed that I'm going to get married because you dreamed of it?"
Shaking his head softly, Jungkook let a smile form on his lips. "Not exactly. I heard Taehyung talking to his mother about proposal the other day. So I assumed it that way." He looked into her eyes and softly said, "And starting from that day, I kept on having moments of your wedding with him in my dreams. It scared me."
Chaeyoung said nothing as she let her gaze lingered on his. The expression she had on her face was totally unreadable and Jungkook couldn't even form any word to ask her why she was looking at him that way. It was like a result of too many feelings, and so many questions fused together. Her eyes blinked but she never looked away from him. Little did she know that the long gaze made him weak to his knees. It was only silence between them and it was supposed to be awkward but that wasn't what he felt.
It was when she finally turned away from him that their silence was broken with a yelp coming from her. Jungkook's eyes widened when a man was trying his best to stop his bike from moving, creating a screeching sound against the pavement and Chaeyoung was on her knees, her palms glued to the surface beneath her.
"Chaeyoung!" he shouted in panic.
He crouched down in a hurry, glancing back and forth between Chaeyoung before his focus was solely on her. His arm was around her shoulder as he tried to take a look at her face as she faced down, her chin tucked to her chest. He saw a shadow closing in on them and looked up to see that man was walking towards them with a worried expression.
"Are you fucking blind?" Jungkook growled, about to stand up and lunge at that man.
If it hadn't been for the soft hold Chaeyoung had on his arm, he would have gifted that man with a single punch with so much strength in it. Jungkook stayed by her side but his glare was fixed onto the man.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I lost control of the bike! I'm sorry!" the man said everything quickly and tried to go on his knees to check on Chaeyoung but Jungkook stopped him, threatened him with a tightly clenched fist if he was to get closer and shooed the guy away. He scattered away with his bike and almost fell as he tried to keep his balance on the bike.
"That was not necessary, Jungkook," she said softly and tried to sit on the ground to check on her knees. "It was an accident."
"It wouldn't have happened if he used his eyes," Jungkook hissed. "What, is he five? Did he just learn to ride it?"
"He said he lost control of the bike, he didn't say he didn't see me," she argued calmly.
"The point is you got hurt," he snapped. Her left knee was scraped pretty bad and he noticed the torn area of her pants on her right knee. His finger slightly pushed the fabric a little to the side to check if she scraped that one too, and fortunately she didn't.
Jungkook felt like he was being watched and when he lifted his eyes to look at her, she was gazing into him again, softly this time. She let a wan smile out and said, "It's really not that bad." She pushed herself to stand and winced softly, almost falling back to her knees and Jungkook was quick to loop his arm around her waist.
"That's what you called 'not that bad'?" He pressed her body close to his, his hold on her waist was firm. "You can't even stand straight."
"I've had my knees scraped for all the years I'd spent being a kid, Jungkook. This isn't so bad," she chuckled, tried to straighten up but her left knee couldn't really do it. She let it bend a little. "I'm okay."
When she tried to wriggle herself off him, he didn't let her go. She looked up at him, wearing a confusion so deep that it crinkled her forehead and knitted her brows and soon it all changed into a startled expression as she let out a gasp the moment Jungkook bent his body down, placed an arm under her knees and lifted her up bridal style.
"Put me down," she told him with a voice above whisper. "People will stare."
"There aren't a lot of people. Don't worry."
"Where are you taking me to?"
"Let's get you home."
"No, put me down, I'll walk on my own. You don't have to do this."
"Would you stop being stubborn, Chaeyoung? You'll have to struggle to walk to the building, it's like two blocks away."
"If I don't try to walk even when I'm in this state, I won't be able to walk properly for a longer time than the usual. I have to train my knee to deal with the pain. So put me down and let me walk."
She had made a good point there and with a heavy sigh, Jungkook finally nodded his head and said a soft 'Fine'. But, he kept on walking and he could already feel the thousands of daggers she threw his way with her eyes.
"I said -"
"I'll put you down once I get to that bench, all right?" Jungkook said, not looking at her as he proceeded. "You need to sit down and wait for me while I get clean water to wash it. And then we'll get home."
She stayed silent and Jungkook tried his best to not glance down at her because that would weaken him; she couldn't keep her eyes off him. Even that hold she had around his neck was enough to make him feel that his heart was about to burst within him.
The soft 'thank you' and the warm smile she gave him after he sent her home made him feel like he could finally see the light he had been waiting for after what seemed to be a lifetime of darkness when it came to the relationship between them.
