Chapter 9

Okay, unexpected, sure. Sans certainly wasn't anticipating to turn and see that blue haired dude again, but hey, life's unpredictable.

"Hey, what's up?" Sans asked.

He wasn't too concerned. If the school was going to send him to loneliness island for being slighty different, then fuck their papers. They could regrade everything for all he cared.

Shigaraki stood there, the same hands on his body as usual. Though the look on his face was different. Sans couldn't pinpoint the expression. It was a mix of confusion, hesitation, with a tiny sprinkle of... a third thing. Yeah, great deduction skills.

"Came to watch the event with me?" Sans asked, gesturing towards the T.V. "I have no popcorn, will make faces at the other classes, and then probably will be in a bad mood for the rest of the day."

With a defeated groan, Sans sunk further into his seat. He'd really like to be there with them, honestly. And now he was talking to some villain dude who broke into the school out of pure loneliness.

"You aren't..." A pause was taken as he spoke. "Um, why aren't you mad?"

"Should I be?" Sans tilted his head. "The only reason I work at this school is because of the debt I got stuck with. So yer breaking in isn't really any worry to me. I only got pissed at ya last time because yer attacked my students. And I care about them, so -" He jabbed a finger at Shigaraki. "- Don't try that again, alright?"

He hissed out at Sans, "You claim to be neutral and remain protective of the next hero generation? That doesn't seem neutral at all."

"Dude, I protect people I care about. And notice how we're having such a lovely conversation instead of me splitting yer skull open and calling the authorities over a breakin? I may be neutral when it comes to villains and heroes, shit, I honestly think the whole system is bull anyway, but I'm not an emotionless pile of bones and flesh. I gotta have relationships too."

A silence took over their conversation. An understanding silence of sorts. Not a stunned one, but Shigaraki looked... satisfied, in a sense, by Sans' answer.

"God damnit, I was hoping you'd turn out to be another miserable piece on the hero's side of the chess board, but -" He dug sharp fingernails into his own hair, scratching at it until blood gathered under those very nails, "- Damnit, damnit! Why are you so - you!"

"Because I'm a lazy shit," Sans said without missing a beat, grinning to himself. Great response, Sans. Hopefully he'd see his bro again to tell him everything. Papyrus would love to hear about Sans' students.

"So you really aren't with the heroes then?" Shigaraki said, but moreso to himself. When he seemed to understand that, he nodded, then held out a hand for Sans. "Then I have a deal for you."

Seeing exactly where this was going, Sans popped a chip into his mouth from a bag he stole from All Might's lunch. "I'm not switching over to the evil side either, buckoo. Neutral means I don't like either side."

A huff escaped Shigaraki. Yup, looks like he wanted to try and pull that.

"Though, I am curious what you were going to offer me for switching. You said you had a deal, so ya must'a had something, right?" Sans asked, attention diverted from the intermission rounds. "Unless... were you going to use the 'I'll make you super powerful, don't be on the losing side' argument?"

That prompted the blue haired male to step forward. And quietly, from his back pocket, he brought out a single piece of paper. Alright, Sans wasn't expecting that. He did actually have something then.

"I think you might actually want to hear my offer." Shigaraki unfolded the slip, then turned it to show Sans it's contents. "My boss is very interested in you after I told him what happened. And he wants you on our side."

Shigaraki, who stood across from Sans, averted his gaze. Actually, he hadn't been too interested in this Sans woman. Unless it was All Might, then he typically didn't want to hear news of useless heroes. But when Shigaraki revealed his interest in her for recruitment, his Boss gave him a full opening for convincing her. Anyone Shigaraki liked he was allowed to get.

"This is a paycheck to cover all of your debt," He said, holding the item in clear light for Sans to see. "Join us, and you don't have any more debts and can quit, That was the deal I was going to make."

Ah, crap, that was good. Sans eyed the paper, biting his lower lip. A tempting offer. Something he actually wanted, too. Sure, he cared about the kids, but he only helped the school because he was chained to it through those debts the woman left behind.

This was a perfect out. Right here. All he had to do was...

Ugh. He wasn't sure now. He didn't like being dragged around by the heroes, but being a villain was the same problem on the other side. Neither sounded very appetizing.

But it was right there. An escape towards some hint of freedom. Sans glanced back towards the T.V.

"I'll have to decline you, I don't like working for the school but they at least don't force me to pledge allegiance to the hero organization, despite me working at one of their official schools." Sans held up his hands. "Sorry."

Shigaraki sighed. A good attempt, then. "Then I'll find a more tempting offer that you can't say no to."

Confused, Sans tilted his head. "Not gonna try to steal anything from here? Or kidnap me? That seems like yer kinda thing," He asked.

"No. That'll come last."

With that, Shigaraki turned around, motioning out of the window. Seconds later, a portal next to him opened up.

"Oh, wait, one last thing!" Shigaraki said, quickly looking back at Sans. "A new recruit told me to do it, but I hope you er... liked the present I left you. I don't know why girls like flowers that'll just wilt, ugh, fucking waste of time - anyways, hope you liked the rose."

And before Sans could reply, he was gone.
