Blood of a queen
¤•☆~ If I could have anyone in this world it would still be you~☆•¤
"Your father took my family from me. He took everything. The blood that runs deep in your veins belongs to that monster." His words echoed throughout my mind as his marred face cracked a sickening smile that caused fear to crawl up my spine.
The cold blade rested against my throat as darkness clouded his eyes. "I am not my father, please understand." I begged, I didn't want to die, atleast not like this. His smile grew wider revealing his bone white teeth, "Perhaps, I would be doing the king a favour." The sound of his gravely voice forced me to try back away from him and yet my body was frozen. Time seemed to slow as I felt the dagger slide across my neck. A blood curling scream escaped me before darkness consumed me. Was I dead?
The soft wet cloth gently dabbed against my forehead. Makhosi's distant roars filled my ears along with the incoherent words of a feminine voice. A searing pain erupted from my thigh causing a scream to grate against my dry throat. I was alive.
A dull ache spread through my head as I tried to peel my eyes open. Maybe the man was here to finish me off. I began to struggle against the loose hold that pinned me against the bed. I would not die easily.
"Get the king." The feminine voice instructed causing footsteps to thud against the slab.
Hands pressed down on my open wound causing a stinging sensation rippled through me, burning against my skin. Another scream slipped from my lips as the pain coursed through me.
"Nehoreka," Makhosi's deep baritone voice called for me causing my eyes to instinctively peel open revealing the dimly lit hut. His warm fingers intertwined with mine, his voice compelling me to listen to him."Look at me, Nehoreka." My hazy eyes tried to focus on his face, his soft gaze hardened as it fell upon the open wound that ran down my throat. His jaw clenched in fury as dark clouds hovered in his eyes.
My shallow breaths began to quicken as my eyes remained trained on him. The womans voice broke me out of my trance. "Drink this, my queen." The cup rested against my dry lips, my eyes looked up towards Makhosi who nodded his head in approval. The cool liquid flowed down my throat. His eyes burned through me. I'd never seen that look in Makhosi's eyes. Was that fear?
A gel like substance pressed up against my neck, the coolness coating the stinging sensation causing the pain to vanish. Cloth was wrapped around my thigh as I struggled to keep my eyes open."Nehoreka, do not sleep." Makhosi's voice warned me and yet I couldn't help but notice the way his plump lips were pursed into a thin line, worry carved deep into his beautiful face.
My eyes fluttered as I tried not to plunge into the enticing darkness that called for me, tempting me to sleep. Voices began to drowned my ears, the urgency in his voice caused my heart to shatter in pain whilst panic surged through me.
"Will she live?" Desperation was evident in his rough voice, as he gently squeezed my hand.
I could trace the silhouette of an elderly woman shaking her head from my blurred vision. 'I was going to die.' The realisation dawned on me as my muscles ached in response wishing for the darkness to engulf me.
"My king, she lost alot of blood the odds are not in her favour." Her voice was a quiet whisper, as if scared of telling him that I may die. His face was the last thing I wanted to see, the man who had been nothing but good to me, even when I had been difficult. My eyes traced his features one last time before the darkness consumed me, it was like a poison flooding through my aching muscles and giving them the much needed rest.
Warm drops fell against my face as Makhosi's soft words caressed me. "I love you, my queen." His voice quivered before his lips brushed against my forehead. Maybe I loved him too.
