Ken vs the Pizzaplex (part 10)
Disclaimer: this will mostly be based off of Markiplier's gameplay.
Freddy Fazbear Pizzaplex
Ken's POV
For a second I simply stood in the Recharge Station, staring at the direction Moony had disappeared with Freddy. It was an extra few seconds before I decided to numbly thumb the door open and shakily walk into the now-lit corridor.
There was a set of double doors next to the Recharge Station; judging by the angle I'd seen Moony drag Freddy through, best guess was that he'd exited using the doors.
So he took Freddy to Parts and Service. But was Freddy okay?
I went to the doors and tried to open them, but they wouldn't budge. I pulled the Security Badge I had gotten from the Security Office out of my pocket and held it up to see if it would do anything, but after a few seconds of fruitlessly pressing the badge to the doors and pulling on the handles, they made it clear that they were going to remain closed. I must need a Security Badge with a higher level of clearance, I reasoned with a groan, stuffing the useless badge back into my pocket.
There was a window to the right of the double doors. Peering inside, I saw what seemed to be an observation room, that of which had more windows that contained a glimpse of the space beyond. I couldn't see much of the second room, but I thought I could see a smidge of tarnished orange.
I tried the FazWatch to see if I could reach him. "Freddy, can you hear me?" Nothing in response, and I couldn't see any movement through the window. Whatever Moony did to him or hooked him up to, it was probably keeping him from responding.
I had to get him out of there, I was certain of that - I had to get Freddy. He was one of the few allies I had in this crazy place, and the best chance I had of getting out of here.
But more than that, he was my friend. I'd get him out of there no matter the circumstances.
There had to be another Security Office somewhere down here, in which would be another Security Badge. I checked the hallway to the left of the entrance to Parts and Service - nothing of use. So I turned back down the hallway we'd taken to get away from Moony. It seemed much shorter than what it was when the lights were off, and I easily found the roll-up door that most likely lead to the lift. The thought briefly crossed my mind that I could take the lift back up to the main stage and take my chances on the upper floors to find another way down to Parts and Service. But then I thought of all the hallways and enemy animatronics, coupled with the fact that I would have no idea where I was going without Freddy having to guide me, and I was immediately exhausted. Instead, I turned down the corridor right next to roll-up door.
A Map Bot was instantly in my face, shoving a paper map in my field of view. "Hi. Please take this map. Take a map."
I took a moment to stand there and catch my breath, trying to recover my dignity after the ear-splitting shriek I had just emitted. I stood by what I'd said before - the Map Bot was easily the scariest thing in the entire Pizzaplex. At least with the animatronic mascots, their feet were heavy enough that I got an early enough warning when they were coming; this thing was literally everywhere and its wheels made it as silent as a mouse. I wasn't even aware that I particularly needed a map at the moment. I tried to sidestep the Map Bot, but it kept mirroring my every move. Like before, it wasn't going to leave me alone unless I took the proffered map. I reached out with shaking fingers and took the sheaf of folded paper from its metal hand. "Thank you," It said in a monotone. "Please enjoy."
"Yeah, thanks," I told it, then felt the need to add, "You're still the scariest thing in this place by far."
Unlike before, the Map Bot simply turned away from me and remained in the hall, rather than wheel away from me. It seemed to be as lost as I was. I felt a twinge of pity, but it's difficult to feel bad for something that had scared your pants off just seconds before.
I stuffed the paper map into my pocket and consulted the electronic version on my FazWatch. As I'd guessed, it had been updated when I'd grabbed the paper copy. Now there was a complete diagram of the utility tunnels under the pizzeria. To my relief, I found that there was a Security Office not far from my current position. "Hold on, Freddy," I told him, looking over my shoulder at the entrance to Parts and Service. "I'm coming back for ya!"
According to the electronic map, the way to the Security Office started with a roll-up door to my right. Through there, I found myself in a concrete room with round pillars dotting the space at a regular interval; more bags of concrete were stacked against the walls. More important, though, was that there was a flashlight charging station mounted on the far wall. After making a pit stop there, I double checked my FazWatch and made my way through the next roll-up door.
The next passage was lined with boxes and mobile cranes as far as the eye could see; I had a serious case of deja vu and realized I was back in the Maintenance Tunnels. Bad memories of the last time I was alone in these tunnels ran through my head, and I kept my flashlight out and on as I started weaving through the stacks of boxes. Luckily, I didn't see any of the animatronics, and my ears didn't hear them approaching.
What I did find, though, was even weirder.
My flashlight landed on what I could only call "a metal doll". It literally looked like a jumbo-sized doll made entirely out of metal rods, plates, and wires; two glowing red balls took the place of eyes in its flat head.
And its claw-like hands were reached directly towards me.
"Freddy, there's something here," I said instinctively into the FazWatch, then brought up the hand attached to it to smack my forehead. Of course Freddy couldn't respond to me - he was probably in a robotic coma at the moment.
I was on my own with this one.
Whatever it was, it wasn't moving, which was good. I kept my flashlight on it the entire time as I crept toward it to make sure it didn't suddenly jerk towards me; I moved my arm as I passed it so that it was still caught in its beam. As soon as I felt I was a safe distance away, I whipped the flashlight back in front of me and hurried as fast as the boxes allowed me down the tunnel.
Soon I came to a wire fence that divided the tunnel in half. I searched every end of it, but I couldn't find a door through it, much less a way around. "Dang it," I muttered, laying a fist against the wire in front of me, making it rattle softly. I swept my flashlight up and down the fence in a last-ditch effort to find a way through, and the beam caught on a vent opening on the wall near the end. My spirits instantly lifted when I saw it, and I ran over and ducked inside. As I started to crawl, hopefully towards the other end of the tunnel, I briefly forgot why I hadn't thought of using the vents before.
The scuttling sound of metal against metal reached my ears.
Oh yeah. That's why.
I flashed my flashlight over my shoulder and saw a glimpse of the spider bot that I had seen earlier, looking as nightmarish as I remembered. Breaking into a terrified sweat, I swung the beam back around and increased my pace down the vent. Down and down through endless ventilation ducts, the sound of the spider bot's pursuit a constant presence behind me. I was starting to think I'd be crawling forever before I finally saw a light that wasn't my flashlight shining against the metal. Invigorated, I sped up again, eventually seeing the exit.
I all but tumbled out face first, ending up on my back with my limbs askew and my head closest to the vent opening where my life nearly ended. Breathing heavily, I got an upside down picture of the spider bot glancing down at me from where it was still in the vents. It stared at me for a moment, noisily clacking its movable teeth and its cracked cymbals together before finally turning and disappearing from view.
"Yeah," I called weakly after it, still gulping down large amounts of air. "And stay in there... please."
I took a few more seconds for my breather; when I felt I could stand up without getting winded, I got to my feet and took in my surroundings. I was in a slightly different tunnel than the one I was in before - less cluttered and a slightly higher ceiling. To the left of the vent I'd just left was a roll up wall that was labeled OUT OF ORDER. A little curious, I tried to pull it open, but something kept it shut on the other side.
Probably for the best. After what I saw in the Maintenance Tunnels, I really didn't want to find out what else was down here.
With that way blocked, I swung my flashlight to the other end of the tunnel to see if there was another exit. My beam lit up the considerably dirty surface of another roll-up door, though this one, fortunately, didn't have an OUT OF ORDER sign. Upon closer inspection, there was also another flashlight charging station next to it. Thankful, I popped my flashlight in and watched as the top hat at the top slowly lit up. These dark corridors were making me use the device probably more than I should, draining the battery.
And I really really didn't want to find out what I'd have to go through if it dies.
Once my flashlight was fully charged, I faced the roll-up door with new determination. Chances were that the Security Office was somewhere behind this door, and in the office was the key I needed to get Freddy out of Parts and Service.
My entire future - and quite literally my life - depended on what I found through that door.
So what are you waiting for? Vestiges of my much braver friends screeched in my head. A written invitation? Get it over with, already!
In the darkness of the tunnel, I whimpered. I missed my friends.
So I swallowed my fear and put my hand on the door. Unlike the one at the other end of the tunnel, this one opened easily and I slipped inside. I discovered the beginning of a long hallway that had a ceiling a great deal lower than the tunnel - I could reach it if I stood on my toes. Lining the walls were cartoon images of the metal doll I'd seen in the Maintenance Tunnels standing with a child; above the images was either a green checkmark or a red x, probably to dictate which behavior was good or bad regarding the dolls. There was a doll helping a child with an injury - that got a checkmark. Further along was a doll offering a balloon to a child with their parent - another checkmark.
Then there was a doll that was biting a child's head clean off their body.
That one got a blood red x.
My terror was starting up again, but I forced myself not to seize up in fear. I found another hallway adjoined with the first one - no creepy posters down this one, though there were plenty of storage bins, as well as another flashlight charging station on the wall at the very end. As I popped my flashlight in and waited for the top hat to light up, I got the sneaking suspicion that I would need the device now more than ever.
When my flashlight was fully charged, I went back out into the main hallway. I found another Freddy-head button at the very end and pressed it - to my surprise, the dead end opened up and the hallway continued on. I followed the new length of floor until my flashlight beam caught on something - it was another of those metal dolls, though now thanks to the posters on the walls, I knew they were endoskeletons - the skeleton of an animatronic. This endoskeleton was facing down a security bot, though both seemed to be deactivated at the moment. Nevertheless, I kept my flashlight on them as I snuck past in the case they did make a sudden move, so I could run at the first sign of danger. I kept the beam on them with one hand while pressing another Freddy-head button at the next wall, then took it off them as I entered the next hallway.
"So this is what you look like on the inside," I told Freddy through the FazWatch, hoping at least a small part of him could hear me. "It's a little creepy... no offense, but I like you with your shell on."
There were even more endoskeletons in the next hallway. They seemed to reach out of the shadows like an army of zombies, their exposed insides gleaming in the beam from my flashlight. I kept repeating my pattern of shining my light on them, keeping it on them as I moved past them, then whipping it back in front of me to look for the next one. As I moved on, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was following me.
But that was impossible. The only other things in here were the endoskeletons, and they were deactivated.
Weren't they?
To make sure, I shone my flashlight over my shoulder at the couple of endoskeletons that I'd just passed. When I'd last seen them, they both had been facing down the corridor, where I'd come from.
Now both of them were facing - and reaching - towards me.
My heart nearly stopped, but I willed it to keep going as I whipped around and started to jog down the hallway. Okay, so they can move when the lights are off, I thought ruefully as I skirted around a corner. It's fine, I just gotta go a little faster to make sure they don't catch me.
I've been doing that all night - what else is new?
My flashlight kept catching on endoskeletons, but I paid them no heed as I blew past them. I already knew that they were moving after me in the darkness, so there wasn't any point in slowing down to shine the light on them anymore. The beam also caught on a rather weird image: a security bot in front of a small table with a birthday cake in front of it. I didn't think anything of it until I got closer and found out that the scene wasn't just weird, it was gruesome. The security boy's body didn't include its head - because the head was the birthday cake, with the colorful candle wick jammed into its forehead.
It was there one minute and gone the next as I turned down another corridor. Good thing, too - I didn't want to see anymore.
I found another Freddy-head button and pressed; it only took a few seconds for the wall to roll up, but it felt like a few decades. As I ran through the opening, I became increasingly aware that I'd had my flashlight on the entire time, which was most likely draining the battery. I hadn't used a flashlight charging station since that one in the adjoining hallway, and I had been running too fast to catch sight of any more. The device was probably running on fumes by this point like me, but I couldn't bring myself to turn it off. I couldn't risk having those endoskeletons chase after me, and/or catch me.
I eventually found another Freddy head button and entered a new section of hallway. I still hadn't found another flashlight charging station and while my flashlight was still going strong, I had the nagging feeling that it wouldn't be long before it wouldn't be long before it went out for good.
My fear kept growing, too - as much as I'd seen endoskeletons along the corridors, I'd also seen mangled security bots in every way, shape, and form. It was obvious that the endoskeletons weren't too keen with authority. What would they do an intruder?
I didn't want to find out.
Finally, finally, I found an opening in the wall, which lead into a small room that was painted in a way that reminded me of the Superstar Daycare. The desk in the center of the room with the numerous computers on its surface, though, told me it was in no way a Daycare. I had found the Security Office! Now I just had to find the Freddy head that held the Security Badge. "Where is it, where is it," I muttered in vain, running my fingers across the surface of the desk; I kept my flashlight beam over my shoulder at the doorway in case of the endoskeletons decided to peek through. In the residual light, I had to rely on touch in order to find the Freddy head while also keeping an eye on the shadows behind me.
Every sound of metal against metal make my fingers shake, but they eventually struck something hard and plastic that definitely was not a keyboard. A glimmer of hope shot through my panic as I pushed what felt like a button and the familiar confetti-cannon sound reached my ears. The top of the plastic container flipped open, allowing my fingers to reach in and pull out a small, hard rectangle. My eyes strained in the low light as I held the item up to them, but I was able to make out the words LEVEL 4.
"Got it!" I yelled ecstatically, momentarily forgetting the army of metal dolls most likely closing in on me. "I can open Parts and Service now." I tucked the badge into my pocket and turned back to the doorway. And froze.
While I had been searching for the Security Badge, I had grown quite a crowd. They were currently caught in the light from my flashlight and unable to move, but a fair amount of endoskeletons had gathered at the door to the Security Office. It was hard to tell with their shell-less faces, but it almost seemed like they were... hungry.
Is there anything in this place that doesn't want to kill me? I thought dejectedly as sweat that had beaded up when I was running took the opportunity to run down my face. Then I thought of Freddy and Sunny, the only two animatronics that had not shown me animosity, and it gave me some relief.
Freddy. I had to get back to him.
There was still a few spaces between the endoskeletons, so I was able to slip by them with reasonable ease. I kept swinging my flashlight around to keep them at bay, though I kept feeling them move beside me when I moved the light away.
And was it my imagination, or was the beam starting to flicker?
Once I'd cleared the audience of endoskeletons, I pointed my flashlight in front of me and sent a quick prayer that my flashlight would hold on a little more before dashing back down the hall. I went through all of the corridors I'd gone down before, this time at a faster pace. Endoskeletons moved and froze up as my beam flashed over them, but they were just flashes of color in the corners of my vision. None of them had managed to grab me, though I knew that could soon change.
Soon the walls around me started looking familiar and I realized that I was back in the entrance hall, where the roll-up door was. The thought that I was nearly out of danger (almost, not quite... I was still in the pizzeria) gave me a second wind, and I reached the exit in what had to be record timing. My sweaty hand slipped twice on the handle, but I was able to get a firm grip on the third try and pull the door up high enough to slip through. As soon as my feet were somewhat solid on the concrete floor outside the hallway, I let go and let the door slam shut behind me.
I leaned against the cool metal of the roll-up door for a second to catch my breath. That escape had been terrifying, but I had seen a lot of scary and creepy things tonight. At least with this encounter, I had a means of escape. On a scale of 1-10 compared to the other things I'd witnessed, I'd give the experience... a solid 5.
Great First Spinjitzu Master... I'm starting to rate how scary these experiences are. I have to get out of here.
The flashlight charging station was right where I remembered it was. Gratefully, I held out my nearly depleted flashlight to place between the metallic jaws.
As soon as I stepped away from the roll-up door, though, it started to lift of its own accord.
My breath caught in my throat and I quickly angled the beam at the space where I could see into the other room. Just as I'd feared, the door stopped lifting; the endoskeletons were opening it from the other side. To test it, I flickered the light a few times - the door started and stopped every time. I grit my teeth and looked back at the flashlight charging station. I couldn't risk standing around and waiting for the flashlight to fully charge, knowing that the metal doll brigade was right behind me. At this rate, they'd grab me before I ever got the battery up to 50%.
So I decided to sacrifice the life of my flashlight and go back the way I'd come.
I practically sprinted away from the roll-up door; as soon as I turned off my flashlight, the sound of it opening played an ominous background for my escape. I found the vent opening at the other end of the hall and got on my hands and knees inside the ducts. Almost the second I started making headway through the tiny tunnel, I heard the scurrying of the spider bot behind me. Sweat beaded on my forehead, but I didn't dare to turn around or use my flashlight to check how close it was - I couldn't risk losing anymore of the battery before I got back to Freddy. All I could do was quicken my pace and pray that it was enough to keep the persistent bot at bay.
The sound of its approach kept getting closer and closer, but I eventually saw the square of light that was the other end. I practically dove through into the Maintenance Tunnel beyond, though I was able to land on my feet this time. Glancing back into the vents, I saw the spider bot crawl a few inches out of the shadows before shooting me what I guess was supposed to be a murderous look and then disappearing down the ducts once more.
"Okay, note to self," I said out loud, breathing heavily. "Avoid using the vents unless there is absolutely positively no other choice."
After taking a minute to gather my wits and brush the excess grime from the vents from my poor coat, I turned to go down the Maintenance Tunnel again. I made it a few steps, quietly praising myself for escaping certain death once more, before stopping cold as a terrifying realization crossed my mind.
I had seen an endoskeleton in here, too. It had only been one, but who's to say it doesn't act exactly the same as the others?
At the thought, I whipped out my flashlight and aimed its beam down the corridor in front of me. With the light illuminating my path, my fear somewhat abated. The endoskeletons couldn't move so long as a light was on them, so I should be safe for now.
Or so I thought.
Because my flashlight took that moment to flicker and die on me.
My fear rushed back in as quickly as the shadows did. Without the flashlight, there was nothing keeping the endoskeletons from grabbing me. Not only that, but if the other animatronics had made their way down here while I had been looking for the Security Office, and if I couldn't get a few seconds head start, I was toast. And that wasn't even considering the maze of boxes that made the way back to Parts and Service.
I was on the verge of what was probably my hundredth panic attack of the night, but I forced myself to swallow my fear and regard the maze ahead of me with something that resembled bravery. I could do this. I just had to be fast.
So I set off through the boxes, keeping an eye on every shadow that moved. I couldn't see the endoskeleton from before anywhere - no sign of the animatronics, either. Heartening, but that didn't mean they weren't still here, waiting for me. Every sound caused me to knock into the boxes and increase my pace. The whole time, I imagined a pair of eyes staring at me from the darkness, tracking my progress, reaching out to grab me, and-
Wrapped up in my own horrific fantasy, I almost ran headfirst into the roll-up door and had to take a minute to get my bearings. I grabbed the handle to pull the door up and slipped underneath to allow it to close safely behind me. I stared at the metal wall for a few seconds, silently daring it to open again; my eyes could have doubled as laser beams for the intensity I put into them. Come on - roll up the wall, I dare you.
When the door remained down, I took a relieved breath and looked around. I was back in the concrete room with the round pillars. I nearly collapsed to the ground and cried with happiness, because I knew that this room, at least, did not have any endoskeletons.
AND THERE WAS A FLASHLIGHT CHARGING STATION ON THE WALL!
I had to stop myself from kissing the machine out of pure joy; instead, I popped in my flashlight and watched in anticipation as the top hat slowly lit up. Once that was done, I put the fully charged device into my pocket and made for the other end of the room, where the roll-up door back to Parts and Service was located. I pulled up the wall and stepped back into the dingy corridor; I caught sight of the Map Bot, still facing in the other direction and seemingly lost.
I thought about the endoskeletons and was compelled to say to it, "Hi - you're still the scariest thing in here." At least the endoskeletons could be seen and stopped - the Map Bot popped up everywhere and would not leave you alone until you took one of its maps.
But I had more pressing matters to attend to than a lost Map Bot. I rounded the corner to take in the sight of the red double doors that lead to Parts and Service. Before when I'd tried to go through them, they'd remained closed, impassable.
Well, I thought gleefully, grinning as I pulled the Level 4 Security Badge out of my pocket. It's sure to open for me now!
I walked up to the doors and held up the badge. A pleased sounding beep came from the metal; when I placed my hand one of the handles and pushed, it opened easily. I practically threw the door open and stood in the doorway, the words FREDDY, I'M HERE on the tip of my tongue.
I swallowed them back into my throat. I could see Freddy - he was in some kind of metal cylinder and strapped to a dentist-office-style chair. Upon second glance, I realized his head had been detached from his body and was currently being held in the air above the chair by a menacing-looking crane hand.
And Vanessa the Security Guard was standing in front of him.
I was hidden thanks to the observation room, so I took the opportunity to eavesdrop. It seemed like I had caught them in the middle of a conversation. "I found him earlier and locked him up in Lost and Found," came Vanessa's haughty tone, speaking to Freddy through the cylinder.
Freddy's head still seemed to be capable of speech despite being separated from his body. "That is great news. He can be returned to his parents."
"He can't," Vanessa replied curtly. "Turns out, there's no record of him."
The way she said it made me uneasy. Just what was she implying?
Freddy seemed to catch her tone too as he stuttered, "H-how unfortunate. If you re-attach my head, I will go look for him now."
Vanessa appeared to have heard him. "His name is Ken. You know how I know that? His FazWatch kept repeating it - in your voice." She did a poor imitation of Freddy's voice: "'Ken, are you there? Ken?'"
I scoffed quietly. Her impression was terrible - she'd never make it in the puppet business.
Then I realized what she said and froze. Oh crap. She heard the messages. It was over. We were surely busted.
Freddy, surprisingly, tried to salvage the situation. "V-Vanessa, all the FazWatches sound like me. It is the default voice option."
I hadn't thought of that. It was certainly a good excuse and could explain why it seemed like Freddy himself was communicating with me. Great move, Freddy. Your turn, Vanessa.
The Security Guard seemed speechless for a second, having obviously not thought of that possibility before. Then she scoffed and leveled her flashlight at Freddy as if it were a weapon. "If you're part of this, you're scrap," She said threateningly. "Monty will run the shows until Parts and Service can slap your casing on a new endo." She let down the arm holding her flashlight and admitted a loud sigh. "Hang out here for a while. I gotta find that kid." With that, she walked away from the cylinder with Freddy inside and headed to a flight of stairs at the back of the room.
"Vanessa, do not leave me like this!" Freddy called desperately after her. The blonde lady appeared to ignore him and continued up the stairs.
I waited until she was out of sight before I pushed open the doors and made myself known to my ally. "Freddy - I'm here!"
"Ken!" Freddy cried in relief; through the window in the cylinder, his glowing eyes strained to meet mine. "I'm so glad you're here and alive! Please, use the console to let me out."
I saw a boxy computer and matching keyboard to the right of the entrance to the cylinder. Obliging, I rushed over and pressed the space bar. The same announcer voice that I had been listening to all night started playing through the computer's speakers: "Welcome to Parts and Service. Please select your desired procedure."
A menu popped up on the screen, with the request SELECT PROCEDURE lettered at the top. Underneath was a list of upgrades: POWER UPGRADE, CLAWS UPGRADE, VOICEBOX UPGRADE, OCULAR UPGRADE. I didn't want to upgrade Freddy's claws, voice, or eyes, so I picked POWER UPGRADE and hoped it was sufficient. The announcer added when I was done, "Please enter the protective cylinder to continue."
The cylinder slid open, fully revealing Freddy. I took in the sight of him laying in the dentist chair, restrained by the absence of his head. The whole picture was both weird and disturbing. "What did they do to you?" I felt the need to ask.
"Routine maintenance," Freddy replied as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
I stared at him. "Removing your head from your body is routine maintenance?" I inquired.
"Of course!" Freddy confirmed brightly. "I am functioning much more better... now."
I tilted my head. "'Much more better'?" I repeated. "That didn't sound right. Are you sure you're okay?"
Freddy's tilted eyes squinted in confusion. "Grammar function error. Perhaps I am still not at peak performance." His tone turned embarrassed as he added, "Could you... reattach my head?"
I glanced at the monster of metal and exposed wires that was holding his head in place and gulped. "I-I don't know... it looks pretty complex," I admitted truthfully.
"Just reconnect the wires and be careful," Freddy instructed haltingly. "I am not quite myself at the moment..."
Before I could ask him what he meant by that, the announcer voice came back, "In case of an emergency, the protective cylinder will protect important service personnel outside of the protective cylinder. Deactivating animatronic safety protocols now. It is recommended that no mistakes are made during the procedure."
I whipped my head towards the ceiling. "Wait - what was that last bit?" I asked.
The announcer did anything but answer me, "To reconnect Freddy's head, repeat the correct sequence by pressing the flashing buttons on Freddy's upper body." Then it was quiet.
I was a little peeved that my question wasn't answered, but I didn't have much of a choice - I still had to get Freddy out of here. I sidled up to Freddy's upper half, where the gap where his head used to be attached to his body was. There were four colorful wires and buttons lining the empty space: red, yellow, green, and blue. As I watched, the buttons lit up in a sequence that emitted substantially loud beeps. When there was a pause, I took it as my cue to recreate the pattern. Little by little, I reconnected the wires to Freddy's head with my shaking hands, then stepped back.
I thought I was done, but the keypad that suddenly dropped down next to me said otherwise. On it were four buttons that were the exact same colors as the wires in Freddy's head. They lit up in the exact same light and sound sequences, too. At each pause, I pressed the buttons to match the shown patterns; with every button, Freddy's head jerked and swiveled as it was reconnected to his body. It honestly made me feel accomplished - I was actually helping him!
After the last sequence, the keypad retracted back into the ceiling and the announcer voice spoke up again, "Good job. Freddy is all patched up and ready for the big show. You may now exit the protective cylinder."
Freddy's hands and feet twitched; his jaw opened and closed as he tested it. Finally, he sat up and regarded me with his big eyes. I couldn't really read his emotions, but I sensed an immense feeling of pride radiating off of him. "Well done, superstar!" He told me boastfully. "I knew you had it in you!"
I smiled at his praise, but I was more worried about him than he was proud of me. "How do you feel?" I asked him, holding out my arms to help him any way I could as he maneuvered his legs off of the chair. "Does your head feel okay?"
"Oh, it feels fine, superstar!" Freddy repeated as he hopped onto the floor. He stood for a moment and rolled his neck for emphasis. "Good as new! Nothing can keep Freddy Fazbear down for long!"
"I'll remember that the next time we're down here," I told him, laughing despite myself. I didn't pull my outstretched arms away until we were outside the cylinder and I was certain Freddy could walk by himself. Once again standing in Parts and Service, I took a look around. "Are all of the devices used in the Pizzaplex made here?" I asked Freddy, turning fully towards him.
"Yes," He replied readily. "If it weren't for Parts and Service, none of us would be able to function. It is the true heart of the Pizzaplex."
"Is there anything I can use to stop the others?" I asked next, glancing around the room for something like a large hammer - I'd even take a laser pointer.
Freddy appeared to think for a minute. "Bright lights in the eyes cause us to briefly malfunction," He admitted somewhat reluctantly. "I suppose a FazerBlaster or a Faz-Cam could work."
"That sounds promising," I said, peeking up at the mention of a possible tool. "Where do I get one?"
"You can win a FazerBlaster in Fazer Blast," Freddy informed me. "Faz Cams are often confiscated in Monty Golf, but you need a Party Pass to open one of those attractions. Chica normally gives them out for birthdays."
"Huh?" I asked, not sure I heard him right. "So we need to track down Chica and ask her to give us a Party Pass? This entire night, I've been running from her!"
"I do not think a confrontation is necessary," Freddy assured me. "Simply check her green room in Rockstar Row. You may find one there. Use the service elevators at the back of the room." He stretched out an arm to point at the other end of the room, where a double set of stairs lead up to a line of doors with silhouettes of the animatronics. "They go up to Rockstar Row." He paused. "It looks like they are all out of order except for Roxy's."
Sure on the plan, I headed towards the stairs. At the top near the doors, I found blueprints of what seemed to be upgrades on the wall, with the animatronics' names in the corners. One had Chica's name and had the picture of a wired box labeled VOICEBOX. Another had Monty's name and depicted what looked like detached forearms with sharp metal claws. The last one had Roxy's name and had the image of two eyes.
"Freddy, check out these pictures," I told him over my shoulder; he'd followed me up the stairs. "Chica has some sort of special voice box, Roxy has new eyes, and Monty was given better claws. Is there anyway we can upgrade you with these?" I turned fully towards him while keeping one hand pointed towards the blueprints. "You know - fight fire with fire?"
"Those upgrades take weeks to put together," Freddy told me sadly. "I am afraid we simply do not have the time nor the materials. Besides..." His tone turned sheepish. "They belong to my friends. I do not want to hurt them."
I stared at him in shock. After everything we went through tonight, after the hell the other animatronics put me through, Freddy still found it in him to protect his friends.
He was loyal, I'll give him that.
"I'm not too keen about hurting them, either," I told him, placing a hand on his large arm; my palm didn't even span the diameter of the limb. "But we have to find something to help me get out of here. Those FazerBlasters and FazCams sound great, but I don't know if they're enough to get me out of here without being caught by the others."
"Ken," Freddy said regretfully, slanting his eyelids into a sorrowful expression as he glanced down at me. "We're doing the best we can to get you home."
I gritted my teeth and pulled my hand off of his arm. "I know, I know!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms up and turning away from Freddy. "You're doing the best you can, I'm doing the best I can, but it's still not enough! I'm still here against my will, getting chased by a bunny with a taste for blood, your friends are probably being mind controlled to help her, and there's nothing we can do about it! This entire place has been against me from the beginning, and it's... just... so FRUSTRATING!" I slammed my fist into the wall beside Monty's door and clenched my eyes shut to keep back my tears. Beside me, I heard Freddy's endoskeleton creak as he flinched at my outburst.
I was surprised at myself. I had never lost control before, not like this. This night was really getting to me. "I'm sorry," I told Freddy in a low voice, trying to keep the tears at bay. "It's just... I want this night to be over already." I collapsed against the wall and slid down to the floor, curling into a fetal position. "I just wanna go home."
Freddy was quiet, letting me grieve. I was grateful for that - I was grateful for him, for his help, even when his friends were trying to kill me.
Then again, it didn't make sense. Why was Freddy the only one helping me? Theoretically, he should also be chasing me through the halls.
So what was different?
Maybe this train of thought was what caused me to look over and see the yellow slip of paper under Monty's door. It was positioned just so that you could only see it if you were focused on the floor and nothing else. Curiosity pulling my strings, I gingerly worked it out from under the door and discovered it was a manila envelope - from its heft in my hands, it was pretty packed, too. With Freddy watching in equal curiosity, I pulled back the flap and partially pulled out the first sheet of paper; my eyes scanned the top to find its name.
Project Reboot.

Uh oh. It looks like Ken's found something new.
Will it be his ticket to escaping the clutches of the Pizzaplex?
(Sorry for not including a scene with the boys - this chapter was getting too long and I have to end it somewhere while also adding DRAMA. I'll add one in the next chapter, though. Also, this chapter holds the record for the longest chapter I've ever written on Wattpad - not sure how I feel about that...)
