Chapter 59
I've been here for hours but I feel like it's been years. The man with the lisp doesn't make a sound and I assume he has gone to sleep because I can hear him breathing heavily nearby.
I have given up on crying or pleading for help so I just sit here on the ground with my hands tied behind my back. It's unbearably cold, almost like the frost was settling inside my body. My shoes are gone and I feel like my toes will freeze over and fall off my body any minute now.
I filter all the happy memories in my head to keep myself calm but the voices fight me. "No happy memories for you. You should be panicking and screaming for your life."
Time goes by and at some point I hear the distant bursts of fireworks, marking the new year. I imagine them light up the sky and Luke's warm embrace around me. I suddenly want to laugh out loud and cry until my eyes pop out of my head and scream until I can't scream anymore.
Where are you, Luke?
Is anyone looking for me? Have they even noticed that I'm gone yet?
What could these people possibly want from me? I have never done any wrong to anyone.
All the questions start to pop into my head with every burst of a firework in the distance. There is a loud bang and I feel my heart race, thinking someone is shooting my way but it's only a door being pushed back into a wall.
"Oi! Wake up! We gotta go." The man who left a couple of hours ago has returned.
Are they going to take me somewhere far away?
"Just tell me what you want from me." I plead the men when I hear them argue in hushed tones.
Footsteps come towards me and the man yanks me up, pushing me forward. My numb legs refuse to work and I almost fall face first back onto the ground but then he painfully yanks me back up by the shoulder.
I feel sets of hands pull at the ropes around my feet and hands, the blood rushing back into my freed arms and I quickly wrap them around my body like a shield.
"Move!" They order and I put one foot in front of the other. "Faster!" He pushes me and I fasten my pace.
I'll scream for help when I'm outside. Maybe someone will hear me. I don't think I can make a run for it, my body is too weak and they will just catch up to me.
They don't take the sack off my face as they drag me along by the arm so I can't see where we are.
I feel the men on either side of me, both of them smell heavily of drugs and alcohol.
The man who has a hold of my arm comes to a stop as a heavy door is opened. I hear it grate against the ground and a gust of cold air hits me like a million tiny icicles. "If you scream, I will shoot you in the head. Do you understand?"
"Please let me go." I finally manage to utter but the man doesn't respond, tightening the grip on my arm he steps behind me, pressing a hand over my mouth to keep me from screaming.
I feel the air lessen and consider biting down on his hand but then I hear cars going by not very far away, they make twists and turns and they come to a stop somewhere. "Just leave her here." The other man orders and I hear receding footsteps. The man with the lisp pushes me onto the ground and I fall before I can catch myself.
"If you tell the police about this, I will kill your entire family. You hear me?" The man with the lisp spits in my face. "You hear me?!" He shouts in my ear and I manage a slow nod.
I feel the man step away from me, his footsteps getting faster as he runs away, leaving me behind.
A mix of relief and worry settle into my body and I struggle to get back up so I push myself against a wall on my hands and pull the sack off my head quickly. I throw it as far away as I can and take gulps of fresh air, tears and sobs wracking my body.
Open your eyes.
I need to get out of here before they change their minds and come back for me but my legs refuse to lift me up.
"Help me." I moan but I don't think anyone can hear me. My head becomes too much for me to hold up and I lay down on the cold ground.
"Cause I'veeee got a jet black hearttttt!" I hear distantly and perk my head up.
"Luke?" I call out but my throat doesn't make any sound.
I try to push myself off the ground but my body refuses to do that either. "Help me."
I hear footsteps, a lot of footsteps and laughing and singing. "I write with a poison pen!" A girl sings at the top of her lungs and I muster up all the energy I have left, reaching out my hand and patting around the ground, looking for something, anything.
I feel a metal can nearby and start to scrape it against the ground causing the friction to make a sound.
"Help me."
---
Luke's Point of View.
Forgive me.
I close my eyes and pull at my hair as hard as I possibly can to try and get the image of her out of my head.
Forgive me.
I hear voices all around me, talking, talking, talking. They never fucking shut up. Inside my head, talking, talking, talking. They will never fucking shut up.
I slide up the wall, getting up off the glaringly white tiled floors of the hospital and brace myself against the wall.
"Luke, where are you going?" I hear someone ask distantly and I think I respond but I'm not sure.
I walk out of the hospital doors, another person asking me if I'm okay. I think I respond, I'm not too sure. The cold night air hits my face like a million needles and I blindly make my way to a bench under a tree nearby.
I collapse onto it, sliding my hand along the scratched wood weathered by the climate over the years. I trace my fingers along the lines running along the wood and close my eyes when I hear the sudden bursting of fireworks in the sky.
Forgive me.
---
Someone lifts my eyelid and shines a light in my eye. "Sierra? Can you follow the light for me please?"
"Good. I'm Dr. Watson. You are in the emergency hospital and you're safe."
I try to open my eyes on my own but I only manage a sliver. "Sierra, squeeze my hand if you can hear me." The woman says and I feel her warm hand in mine.
"Very good. We are going to give you an IV and you're going to be okay soon."
I feel the sting of a needle going into my arm and hear the crackling of a police walkie-talkie. "Is she going to be okay?" A girl asks nearby. "Her body is just in shock. She will be fine. Do you know anyone we can call for her?" I hear the doctor ask.
"She's Luke Hemming's girlfriend. We found her in an alleyway near the stadium." The girl explains and I struggle to open my eyes. They manage to open a little and I see a nurse in blue scrubs leaning over me, bandaging my wrist. "Don't strain hon. You'll be fine." The old lady nurse smiles warmly at me.
"Do you have his number?" The doctor asks the girl and I hear her scoff. "He's the lead singer of the biggest band in the world. Fans don't really have his number."

The doctor comes back into the room with a policeman when the nurse announces that I am fully awake and lucid.
I woke up to all my limbs working again, all though it's painful to move. My eyes didn't fight me to open and I sat up in bed with the IV still in my arm. They have changed me out of my clothes and into a paper thin hospital gown while I was asleep.
"Sierra, it's good to see you awake. Does anything hurt?" The doctor asks.
"Everything." I murmur and she smiles at me. "Anything, in particular, dear?"
"My hip." I point to where the man kicked me. "It hurts when I breathe."
"Your vitals are good so I'll take a look at your hip while you talk to the officer, he just has a couple of questions for you, it'll be quick." She explains.
The officer clears his throat. "Ma'am I'm Officer Donovan, a group of girls found you in an alleyway near the New Year's Eve Ball. Can you recall anything that happened?"
"I was in the parking lot under the city looking for my car when someone knocked into me and I must have passed out because when I woke up again I was tied up by two men and there was a sack over my head so I couldn't see anything," I recall all at once, wincing painfully when the doctor presses down on a spot on my hip.
"Do you know who those men were?"
"No. But one of them called me the day before. It was anonymous so I ignored it, but the man had the same lisp..." I blink rapidly and grit my teeth. "Can you please call my boyfriend for me?" I ask the officer and he nods his head, noting down the two numbers I know by heart. Luke's and Montana's.
The officer hands the numbers to another policeman outside the door and turns back to ask me another question. "I'm sorry to ask you this at this time ma'am but we need to know, were you sexually or physically abused by them?" He asks me and the doctor must see the look that crosses my face because she puts a hand up to stop him.
"She has some bruising on her hip, I can't tell if there's a fracture or if it's superficial until I get an X-Ray. I need to take her up now so I can be sure there is no internal bleeding as well."
The redheaded Doctor calls for a nurse and they make me lie back down, wheeling my bed out of the room. I thank the doctor with my eyes and tug at her hand. "Please call them." I croak out and she nods her head with a smile.
They take me to get an X-Ray and when they bring me back, there is a group of people gathered outside my room. Montana is the first at my side followed by Addy. "Oh my god Sierra are you okay?"
Luke isn't there.
"Who did this to you?"
"Where is Luke?"
"What the fuck happened?"
I search the group for Luke but he isn't there. They wheel my bed back into the room and lock it into place, Addy, and Montana taking my hand on either side of me.
Their questions overwhelm me and I silently lay back down, a headache coming back.
"I don't know where Luke is." I murmur and Michael swears under his breath.
"Did he come and find you?" Ashton asks guiltily as Dave rushes into the room. "Is she okay? Bloody hell." He sighs, looking at the bandages around my wrists and ankles.
"S, look at me." Montana whispers and I turn my head to look at her. Her eyes are glossy with the tears that she holds back. "Did Luke do this to you?" She asks softly and I shake my head, frowning. "No. No. He never came back to get me."
She closes her eyes and breathes a sign of relief. "Just please, take me home," I tell them and close my eyes to rest.
~
Luke's Point of View
I sit outside on the bench, watching as the moon disappears and the sun climbs up the sky. Ambulances come and go, people come and go. I watch them all silently.
Forgive me.
I rub at my neck and feel the cold metal of the chain around my neck. I pull it out from under my t-shirt and look at it.
I trace the tiny tree and the birds with my finger and flip the little plate around. "I will carry you."
Sierra
"Oh god. Sierra." I murmur to myself and shoot up off the bench, dizziness taking over my body.
"Sierra," I say louder, hoping her name shoots a bolt of energy through my body. I picture her green eyes and her smile. I never took her to our date...
She will never forgive you again.
The haze in my head clears a little and I start to walk back into the hospital on shaky feet.
I finally reach the reception after what feels like years. "Can I please make a call? And I need some aspirin."
---
The drive home is silent as I sleep on Addy's shoulder. The doctor cleared me after she and Ashton pleaded. The doctor said the bruising on my hip was only superficial and that I should be fine. She told me to come in for a checkup in two days unless I faint or feel a sharp pain anywhere in my body.
The car comes to a halt and Addy and Montana helps me out of the car. Dave comes lumbering to my side and picks me up, cradling my body in his arms. "You'll be fine now." He promises and I feel that it's more an assurance for himself than me.
"It's not your fault, Dave." I murmur and he shakes his head. "You lot are my responsibility."
He carries me into the lobby and all the way up the lift and into my house.
Montana opens the door with her spare key and we walk in "Luke?" I call as soon as we're inside but the house is silent.
"Luke?" I call again thinking he must be asleep but there is no answer. "Don't strain yourself. We will look for him." Dave lays me down gently on the couch when I refuse to go to bed.
"He's not here." Calum runs a hand through his hair, walking back into the living room. "His phone is off too," Michael says from next to me and Dave leaves the room to make some calls.
"Do you think he's hurt?" I ask nobody in particular, a single tear rolling down my cheek.
For the first time in hours, I feel an unbearable pain in my chest as I realise they must have him too. What if they took him too? What if he's hurt? What if he's lying somewhere in a ditch? Why did they let me go?
Addy makes everyone breakfast and I drift in and out of sleep. I can't bear to eat so I sip a cup of tea and chew on the end of a granola bar Addy forces me to eat.
"He'll be fine." Montana sits next to me while we stare at the TV that is on mute. Everyone in the house is awfully quiet and tensed, waiting for news on Luke.
Calum's phone starts to ring from a corner and he frowns, answering quickly. "Hello?"
Calum stands up and walks closer to me absentmindedly as his face washes over with relief "Luke! Man where the fuck are you?!" I put my cup down and go to stand up but a spark of pain on my side stops me. "Give me the phone!" I order Calum but he puts a hand up.
"What? Yeah, okay. We will be there soon." Calum rubs his face tiredly and pushes the phone back into his pocket.
"Luke's at the hospital and he wants me to come now." He announces awfully calm and my blood goes cold.
