TRAVELLER. 06.
"See I've been traveling, been traveling forever. But now that I found a home feels like I'm in Heaven."
I knew from that first moment I saw him. It was not love at first sight exactly, but - familiarity, Like: Oh, hello, it's you. It's always going to be you. Game over.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT & WIZARDRY
⏳October 16, 1942⌛️
THE FIRST thing my eyesight caught was rows upon rows of desks. At the very front of the room sat a man with long auburn hair sitting at a desk writing something on paper-no-parchment.
I was now a 'witch' I had to start acting like one.
I recognized the man as an extremely younger version of Albus.
I cleared my throat loudly gaining his attention. Albus looked up at me with furrowed eyebrows and I awkwardly smiled back at him.
I couldn't help but notice how his beard was extremely shorter than it was when I last saw him. After a few seconds of awkward silence with Albus making no move to greet me I released a sigh.
"Okay. Let's cut this short. I know Balthazar was already here and informed you on the mission I was sent on." I sighed tired of this long day that seemed to just be dragging on.
"Miss Adriel I presume? I'm sorry about that, I just had to be sure it was you, you never know anymore." Albus spoke softly to me.
I simply shrugged as if to say 'it's alright'. I mean understood where he was coming from, if my calculations were correct they were in the first Wizarding war as of now.
"When Balthazar visited earlier he wanted to keep the information he was giving pertaining me limited. He explained it wouldn't be good if I knew to much, and simply gave me the important details of it all." Albus informed me getting up from his desk.
I couldn't help but snort slightly. It's not like Albus knowing the full story would do anything more. I was already changing a big chunk of history.
"Therefore try not to tell me much of the future unless it's an absolute necessity. As of now all I know is that it's imperative that you change Tom Riddle, and of course the fact that you are a Nephilim. I do not know how far into the future you are from, nor do I know who your angelic parent is. I will be here for an assistance you may require though." Albus spoke with a kind look.
"Yes of course, thank you Albus." I smiled back.
"You're welcome. Don't forget you are a student here now, so you must call me Professor Dumbledore. Now come along." Professor Dumbledore told me walking towards the classroom door.
'Professor Dumbledore' I kept chanting the name in my head. With a sigh I lugged my trunk along following after him.
🕰🕰🕰🕰🕰
Within minutes we were inside the Headmaster's office. Apparently the Headmaster from this time was Armando Dippet. He seemed to be a nice old man.
"Miss Pembroke here is a transfer from Ilvermorny. She is beginning her fifth year here at Hogwarts." Professor Dumbledore kindly informed Headmaster Dippet for me.
"That's marvelous! Let me get you sorted dear." The Headmaster smiled at me while grabbing a pointy dirty old hat from behind his desk.
Headmaster Dippet's office was not nearly as cool as Dumbledore's. His office was very plain with little decoration to it.
I watched as he brought the hat closer to me. He motioned me to sit in a chair behind his desk. Setting down my trunk I hesitantly sat in the chair. I looked to Professor Dumbledore who gave me a reassuring look.
'Open your mind' He mouthed to me.
I nodded my head taking down my shields just as the Headmaster placed the dirty hat on my head.
'Well you'd be dirty too if you were placed on thousands of children's heads over the past millennia!' I heard a shout in my head.
'What the hell? Who are you!'
'You're supposedly one of the most powerful beings to ever exist, figure it out!'
'Well okay then I'm assuming you're the sorting hat?'
'What do people from your time say? No shit Sherlock?'
'Just go on with getting me sorted, I don't have time for your insults.'
'I don't have time for your idiocy either.'
'Screw you.'
'I don't fancy being awakened in the middle of the school year you know.'
'I'm sorry okay, but I kind of have a mission to attend to!'
'Okay fine lets see. You would do well in all houses. You have the smarts of a Ravenclaw, the kindness it takes to be a Hufflepuff is debatable, you're are resourceful and particularly cunning. You by far have the courage and loyalty of Gryffindor, but where to put you? Slytherin or Gryffindor? I do definitely see the Gryffindor in you.'
'Listen I really need to be put in Slytherin, I need to change Tom Riddle. I need to change the future. I can't fail Professor Dumbledore. Please help me here.'
It was silent for a few moments and I almost thought it ignored me.
"Slytherin!" The hat shouted out loud.
Headmaster Dippet smiled at me taking the hat off my head. I couldn't help but smile in relief. Within seconds my shields came back naturally.
"I've just sent for the fifth year female Slytherin prefect. She'll show you around the Slytherin common room and introduce you to everyone." The Headmaster sent me a smile.
"Thank you." I smiled at him already nervous.
Alright Adriel you can do this. It's time to change Tom Riddle.
I gave myself multiple pep talks in my head. While I was silently patting myself on the back, the two men talked.
Soon enough the door swung open revealing yet another pale skinned person.
God these people didn't get any sun around here.
Her eyes brightened immensely when they landed on me. A wide grin took hold of her pretty features. Dark chocolate curls hung wildly over her face while her eyes shined amazingly bright blue that could rival that of the ocean. She was clothed in the green uniforms I had seen earlier making me believe that this was in fact the Slytherin uniform.
"I don't think I've ever seen an outfit quite like that." Are the first words the pretty English girl spoke to me.
She gazed over my clothing with amusement. I've already blown it. Women didn't wear this fashion in the 1940's, how idiotic could I be?
I need to fix this.
"Oh yeah this isn't what I normally wear at all, but my sister dared me to wear this." I gave a fake laugh hoping she'd buy it.
"You're American? Where are you from?" She questioned now over the clothing I was wearing.
"I was actually born in Louisiana, and I attended Ilvermorny since I was eleven." I explained quickly.
"Well that's splendid! Come along I'll show you to the Slytherin dormitories." The girl gave a smile nodding her head to the Professors.
I wordlessly grabbed my trunk and followed after the girl.
"I never caught your name?" I questioned the girl as we walked.
"Lavender Rowle." The girl who I now knew as Lavender smiled at me. "Adriel Pembroke." I spoke back.
The rest of the walk consisted of polite conversation and a few laughs. I genuinely liked Lavender, she was way ahead of her time in my opinion.
As I've learned the Wizarding world was not nearly as sexist as the Non-magical people are during this time.
Lavender was independent and extremely intelligent, I could tell from just one conversation with her that she thinks outside the box. That's probably what made her prefect.
We had walked down many flights of staircases into what I could only assume was a somewhere under the school. It was by far colder than the rest of the castle something I was not fond of. Growing up in Louisiana I learned to appreciate the constant humid heat that it provided.
The two of us soon came upon a stone wall. I watched as we stopped in front of it with slight confusion.
"The password to get in is 'Pure-blood', I know not very creative. Trust me when I say that if I become Head girl I'm definitely getting that password changed." Lavender slightly ranted to me causing me to giggle at her antics.
She blushed as she realized that she was in fact ranting. With a clear of her throat she spoke the words "Pure-blood."
A passage way formed before me causing my eyes to slightly widen. Lavender smiled at the expression of my face as she led me through the passage way.
I was welcomed by an empty green-themed room, that appeared very sophisticated in my opinion. My eyes darted around in slight amazement taking in the room. A leather couch sat in front of a fire place, with a chair just right next to the fireplace. The fire itself was burning green from what I could only assume was a spell. A small table adorned with a chess game atop was placed in the corner of the room while a desk was just at the back. Multiple book shelf's were scattered across the room.
What really threw me though were the windows. Outside the windows there was no view of the school grounds. No, outside was a view of water, nothing but murky green water.
"The windows?" I questioned Lavender in confusion.
"Yeah, the Slytherin dorms are the just under the Black Lake." Lavender explained to me. I assumed the Black Lake was the body of water I had seen outside previously.
I followed Lavender's lead as she lead me down a hallway to our right. Multiple doors were scattered across the long hall. She finally opened the door to one of the very last rooms. She opened the door for me allowing myself to go in first.
I went in looking around the dormitory room. Four long poster beds were sat on either side of the room. The wooden floor boards creaked as I dropped my trunk onto them.
"This bed is yours." Lavender motioned me over to the bed that was closest the end on the right side. "You'll be sharing a room with me and two other girls, there aren't that many fifth year female Slytherins so we kind of lucked out." Lavender shrugged her shoulders. "The two other girls go by names of Penelope Carrow and Patricia Denmark. Penelope is practically my sister, so I'm sure the two of you will get along just fine. Patricia is nice, but she prefers hanging out with the Ravenclaws so you'll really only see her at nights." Lavender explained to me.
"I can't wait to meet them." I smiled picking my trunk back up and bringing it to my bed. I slammed it down on my bed with a little to much force as the bed gave a small noise in complaint.
"You are definitely strong." Lavender observed in surprise. I simply gave a sheepish smile in return cursing myself out in my head.
Lavender quickly cleared her throat getting back on topic "Any questions?"
"Yeah where are all the other students?" I questioned confused as I hadn't seen one student in the corridors.
"They're all at Hogsmeade, the village next to Hogwarts. It's Saturday you see and on the weekends students aren't required to dress in uniform and are free to go down to the local village as they please. I was simply in the library studying when Headmaster Dippet called for myself." Lavender nodded.
My mouth formed an 'O' shape as I nodded vigorously feeling slightly bad about interrupting her studying.
"Any other questions?" Lavender spoke once more with a smile on her face.
"Nope I think I'm good for now." I gave her a tight lipped smile.
"Okay well dinner's at precisely six o' clock, I'll be back before then to retrieve you. Don't worry you won't be stuck wandering about the corridors by yourself." Lavender let out a small laugh earning one from me as well. "You'll receive your time-table from the head of our house on Monday during breakfast. I assume you would want to shower and relax before dinner, so I'll leave you. I'll just be in the library if you need me, I'll be back in a few hours for dinner." Lavender turned and swiftly walked out the door before I could utter a word.
I figured I could go down to the library tomorrow and research on Wizarding history. With a sigh of exhaustion I opened my trunk to find all my school supplies.
I smiled when I realized that all my plain ties had transpired into that of emerald green, with a snake in the place of where the Hogwarts symbol once lied on my robes. It must've been some sort of spell.
Sitting right next to my bed was a dresser that I had just now noticed. With a small grin I listened in on anything outside my dormitory room. When I heard nothing confirming that I was in fact completely alone I turned my head to my trunk.
Soon enough my school robes started to float out of my trunk and into the dresser, my school books aligned themselves perfectly onto the top of the dresser, and finally my shoes placed themselves neatly just to the right of the plain dresser.
As much as I wanted to color the plain dresser I had to at least make an attempt to not draw attention to myself. With a snap of my wrist the trunk had closed itself and was swept under my bed. Lightly I took my backpack off my shoulders and placed it in the spot of where the trunk previously sat.
I watched as it unzipped itself and out came any and all 1940's clothes which my mother had so graciously packed for me. The outfits all ended up in the dresser as well, with the shoes sitting right next to my school shoes.
I had to be extremely careful with my backpack. I, being the idiot I am decided to pack a lot off junk from the 2000's. Even if this was the Wizarding world and many didn't know much about non-magical people they still knew enough to know that they would realize this stuff was not normal.
The last thing I needed was Tom Riddle getting a hold of the back pack. I rolled my eyes at the thought.
After all necessary items were taken from my backpack I tossed it far under my bed, farther than my trunk that was.
"Okay." I muttered to myself stifling a yawn.
I looked at the clock and noticed it was five. I was tired but I couldn't sleep right now I didn't have enough time. Slowly I walked to dresser pulling open the drawers. Peering inside I prayed that I could successfully pick out a true 1940's outfit.
Just as I was about to touch the soft fabric of a blouse I froze.
"What the hell? I'm a Nephilim I can do whatever I want." I told myself haughtily slamming shut the dresser drawers cursing myself for not thinking this earlier.
With a snap of my fingers my outfit was replaced and my hair was done.
On the other side of the room was a long mirror just by the door. Skipping over to it I looked to see the work I had done. A lovely green dress that was decorated with black dots fell just past my knees. The black dots gave it a great sense of both uniqueness and style. My hair that was once a messy ponytail now fell down my shoulders in bouncy neat curls. The shoes covering my feet were a short pair of white heels adding an extra two-inches to my height.
Even my nails and makeup were done. Long ruby red nails adorned my finger tips beautifully. My makeup was done naturally, yet the bright red lipstick popped. I know that red lipstick was popular in the 1940's so it should actually help me blend in to the girls at this school.
There's no way I'm blending in. As conceited as it was being a Nephilim naturally gives me an advantage in looks, now with myself all dressed up like this. It was basically calling for attention.
Maybe I'll gain the attention of Tom Riddle?
Crap! I didn't even know what Tom Riddle looked like, how was I suppose to know who he was. All I know is that he is in his fifth year and supposedly some creepy evil teenager, maybe Lavender will know him?
I sighed at my thoughts. I didn't even have a true plan on how to change him. I walked back to my bed taking a seat. I brought my hands to my face in stress.
I'm the one who wanted to do this no one made me, I can't start complaining.
I turned to look at the clock seeing how much time I had left. I had half an hour before Lavender was mean't to get me. I did not who Tom Riddle was; Yes, I knew who Voldemort was, but not Tom Riddle.
All I knew was that Tom Riddle made bad decisions. I needed to stop him. I can't do that if I don't why he made these decisions though. I'll need to get to know, befriend him, learn of his past, get him to trust me.
I'll need to show him compassion, loyalty, dare I say love. That was my plan so far, befriend Tom Riddle and gain his trust. It's essential that he trust me or else nothing will change.
Hundreds of lives now rest upon my shoulders. I needed to actually be serious for once and not some pompous spoiled brat. Just because I am a Nephilim does not I will succeed. I cannot and will not fail this task. Severus found out within a few hours, that mistake will never happen again.
I am no longer the Nephilim Adriel Pembroke. I am now the witch Adriel Pembroke.
For the next thirty minutes I sat making up a back story with the limited amount of wizard information I knew.
I know my father attended Ilvermorny himself as he has told me many stories about the school on multiple occasions. I remembered he told me about the houses they have there Thunderbird, Horned Serpent, Wampus, and Pukwudgie. He himself was in the house of Thunderbird.
He tells myself and my mom all the time how amazing Ilvermorny. He says all the houses are great, but Thunderbird is most definitely the best. I can tell he only says that more out of competition than anything else. Sometimes his eyes give away a saddened expression as if he misses the Wizarding World he was born from.
I know that if I were to really attend Ilvermorny I would be sorted into the house of Thunderbird, just as my father was. Therefore when someone asks what house I was in I will say Thunderbird with as much pride as if it is was truly my own house.
I am Adriel Pembroke, born July 18, 1927. I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and attended Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I was in the house of Thunderbird and my blood runs pure. My father referees to himself as a pure blood on multiple occasions so I will refer to myself as which.
I went over it multiple times so that when I am questioned I will make no mistakes. Soon enough I heard multiple footsteps walking into the Slytherin common room. Students must be returning back.
Lavender burst into the room soon after, her untamable mound of curls slightly frizzed around her face. The blue of her eyes shined wildly in what looked to be irritation. The irritation was soon wiped away after she spotted me.
"Now that is an outrageous outfit. You look wonderful!" Lavender smiled complimenting the 1940's clothes I had put together.
Thank God I actually look like I somewhat belong now.
"Yeah since you said uniform wasn't required during weekends I figured I'd try to make an impression." I shrugged.
She laughed at my response walking over to bed across from mine. I watched as she took the long Slytherin robe off and put it on what I assumed to be her bed.
"That robe sure does begin to get annoying after a while." Lavender informed motioning to her robe.
"Trust me I'm not looking forward to wearing that damned piece of clothing. I can only imagine how much I'll trip over it." I groaned earning a snort from Lavender.
It was true. I don't usually wear long clothing pieces such as the robe, so I'm probably going to trip over it many times unfortunately.
"Oh I can tell many times that I've been walking and randomly tripped from it just this year." Lavender sighed at the memories.
I laughed prompting a smile to form on her lips.
"Come on let's go to dinner I'll introduce you to everyone." Lavender motioned me to follow her.
I stood up following after her my heels clicking as I walked. I already hated the heels.
We quickly walked through the hallways soon turning to the stairs that down into the common room. Unlike the before the common room was not completely empty. Few students were scattered around the common attending to multiple tasks.
As we walked down the stairs I noticed Lavender's gaze meet that of another students. The irritation she wore before had returned as she looked to this boy.
This boy was handsome to say the least. Platinum blonde was styled in a sort of quiff at the top of his head, while his stormy gray eyes pierced Lavender's with intensity. His tall body was clothed in that of the Slytherin uniform.
"I see you've finally decided to grace me with your presence, Lavender." The student remarked snidely.
"Oh shut up will you Abraxas? No one wants to listen to that annoying voice of yours." Lavender bit back with twice as much force the irritation finally getting to her.
I watched a small smile place itself --on the boy who I now as 'Abraxas'-- lips. Obviously he found it entertaining riling Lavender up.
His eyes soon swept over to myself, they widened slightly in surprise.
"I've never seen you before." Abraxas breathed out looking slightly dazed while staring me.
"This is Adriel Pembroke, newest student at Hogwarts. Please make her feel welcome." Lavender practically growled at Abraxas shaking him from his daze.
"Right, of course! I'm Abraxas Malfoy pleasure to meet you!" Abraxas exclaimed joining Lavender and I on our journey toward the Great Hall. "Where are you a transferring from?" Abraxas questioned me as the three of us made our way out of the common room.
"Ilvermorny." I answered back politely.
"You're American!" Abraxas observed surprised.
I simply shrugged my shoulders in response. Lavender let out a scoff at Abraxas following us to the Great Hall.
"Shouldn't you and your dimwitted friends be following Riddle around like some lost puppy?" Lavender rolled her eyes at Abraxas.
"Go ahead and keep rolling your eyes Lavender. Perhaps you'll find a brain back there." Abraxas mumbled toward her.
"Excuse me?" Lavender exclaimed daring Abraxas to repeat himself.
"You heard me." Abraxas sneered.
"Twenty-five points from Slytherin and detention with Dumbledore for a week." Lavender smirked at him.
Abraxas gaped at Lavender in shock. "You're taking points from your own house!" Abraxas yelled his cheeks burning bright in fury.
"Maybe next time you'll find some proper manners." Lavender threw back haughtily.
Abraxas simply huffed in reply muttering something about detention with Dumbledore. Lavender and I shared conversation with Abraxas glowering to himself in the back the rest of the way.
Soon enough we came upon a large entry way leading into the one of the largest rooms I've ever seen. It was truly a sight to behold with floating candles and the roof charmed to look exactly like the night sky.
Four long tables were across the entirety of the room with a smaller table up front. Many students sat at the four tables, every table holding students dressed in different colored robes. I noticed the table adorned with Slytherin robes was at the very end on the right.
I hadn't realized I was gaping until I noticed both Lavender and Abraxas smirking at me from my perceptional vision.
"Quite a sight isn't it." Lavender commented looking around with a sort of adoration in her eyes. I couldn't help but notice that Abraxas was admiring Lavender while she was distracted.
That's interesting.
I looked to the smaller table up front that appeared to be occupied with staff members of the school. My gaze met with Dumbledore's, he gave me a smile while nodding his head in greetings. I nodded my back as well a smile forming on my features.
Dumbledore chuckled at me gaining the Headmasters attention. Dippet followed Dumbledore's gaze until his eyes landed on myself. He gave me a smile as well before standing up from his thrown like chair at the table gaining the entire hall's attention.
"I would like to inform you all of our newest student; Adriel Pembroke. She is transfer from Ilvermorny our friends in North America. Adriel has been sorted into Slytherin house please make her feel welcome!" Dippet finished his speech sitting down.
All of students gazes in the Hall soon turned to me. Most were gaping while others gave me looks of jealousy. Lavender led me to the Slytherin table with Abraxas following after us. The gazes not leaving me.
"Scoot over please." Lavender spoke as we sat down toward the middle of the table.
A pretty blonde haired girl looked up at us while scooting the right. Lavender sat down while pulling me with her.
"Adriel meet Penelope Carrow, our other roommate unfortunately." Lavender joked earning a slap on the shoulder from Penelope.
"What do you mean 'unfortunately' I'm a great roommate to have." Penelope scoffed while Lavender laughed at her.
"Penelope Carrow nice to meet you." Penelope gave me a dazzling smile.
"Nice to meet you too." I smiled back at her.
"I love your accent. I've always wanted to visit the States." Penelope said her baby blue eyes shining thoughtfully.
"You definitely should. It's gorgeous down there."
Penelope nodded before Lavender sucked us into a conversation about someone called a 'Grindelhalt'. I lost interest fast vaguely understanding that it had something to do with a war.
I looked around the Great Hall curiously noticing that a few people would look at me. Soon my eyes landed on Abraxas. He was sitting with a group of about six boys toward the end of the table.
Why are they all so hot?
I couldn't help but notice they all were quite gifted when it came to looks.
"Who are they?" I questioned both Lavender and Penelope nodding my head toward the group of boys Abraxas was sitting with.
While Lavender groaned, Penelope squealed obviously excited about getting to talk about them.
"Okay so all seven of them are pretty much famous here at Hogwarts." Penelope started while Lavender rested her head to her palm. "You see the blonde haired one, almost white hair?" Penelope nodded to Abraxas.
"She met him earlier." Lavender informed Penelope sounding bored.
"So you know Abraxas Malfoy then, I personally think he's Lavender's future husband." Penelope smiled, with Lavender just ignoring her completely. "Across from him is Victor Rosier, fifth-year, and he can be the sweetest person ever when he wants too." Penelope informed me.
"I can't argue with that." Lavender said.
I nodded to them in return looking at the curly blonde haired boy I now knew as Victor Rosier.
"Next to him is Antonin Dolohov, nothing interesting about him except his muscles and that he's a sixth-year." Penelope waved him off. "After him is Alphard Black, fourth-year, and he is a complete idiot listen to nothing he says." Lavender nodded in agreement a sorry look on her face.
"Across form him is Nicholas Avery, sixth-year, and he is an arse. That boy is just walking negativity try staying clear of him." Penelope made a disgusted look at Avery. "Next to him would be the man I'm courting; Gideon Lestrange, sixth-year, and he is absolutely perfect there is nothing wrong with him at all-" Penelope was cut off by Lavender putting her had over her mouth.
"We get it you are courting the most perfect person." Lavender exclaimed causing a blush to rise on Penelope's cheeks. Lavender removed her hand with an amused look on her face.
"Anyway last but not least Tom Riddle. He is the ring-leader of that entire group. Not doubt the best looking of everyone at Hogwarts and best student by far. He is bloody brilliant that boy is, fifth-year male prefect. He is charming and charismatic to everyone, and he is practically all teachers favorite student. He's the one in the center of them reading."
My eyes fell on the student in the center of the group. Tom Riddle, the reason I'm here. Just like Penelope said Tom was in fact reading. As if he could read my mind Tom looked up from his book and his gaze landed on me.
I jumped slightly from surprise. The young man almost looked like he belonged, but not quite. He looked too sophisticated, too surreal, Tom Riddle was in fact the most handsome man I'd ever laid eyes on.
His coal black hair was done smartly, but it had a slight wave to it. His eyebrows were tilted at just the right angle, and his eyes were made of such a cold ice blue it almost sent shivers down my spine. It was impossible to believe this was Voldemort.
Soon our eyes met, and I couldn't tear my gaze away no matter how much I wanted to. I was frozen. I was put under his spell. I knew from there on that I didn't have a chance.
It was like my soul had seen Tom and went 'Oh there you are. I've been looking for you.' It was him, it would always be him.
