ELEVEN. gotta go my own way

AUSTIN KNEW that Charlotte's dream job had always been a doctor. Just the idea of helping others no matter what, inspired her and she would never ever turn down the opportunity to take one step closer to that dream.

Which is why Charlotte was stuck in between a rock and a hard place.

Though Charlotte had this wonderful job at the diner and at the children's center, she had gotten the opportunity to move higher up. She could quit her job at the diner (and her rein of Mindy) and continue working at the children's center with higher pay and bigger opportunities.

Sounded great and it was.

The downside?

She would have to skip out on Austin's first ever tour.

She really wanted- needed this job. To her, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and she knew she couldn't let that go... but working on her relationship with Austin was something that she wanted.

A want and a need... she needed this job and wanted a relationship.

"Austin wrote you a love song. He took his small, little, teeny tiny brain and wrote you a song on a napkin and you're willing to let that go!"

Charlotte glanced at Carter, "If it means perusing my dream job? Sadly, yes, I'm willing to let him go."

Carter wasn't much help with her situation either. He obviously wanted her to go on this tour and rekindle her relationship that she wanted, but he knew that she wasn't going to budge because this was Charlotte and she was going to chase her dreams.

The hardest part?

Telling Austin that she wasn't going on tour anymore.

She had practiced over and over again about what she was going to say, but no matter what, she didn't know how Austin would react.

She didn't even know if she could make his first show which was in Miami.

"Fine." Carter said, resting his hands on Charlotte's shoulders, "Sonic Boom is right there. All you have to do is go inside and break this guys heart."

"Have you thought about how I feel about this? All my friends are going to be traveling across America and I'm staying in Miami."

"To peruse your dreams." He smiled, "I'm always on Team Charlotte before anyone else. Be the captain of your own team."

Charlotte sighed and headed inside Sonic Boom; Carter towing behind.

"Charlotte! Do you have any idea how I can get Ally a better gift than Austin?" Trish asked?

"Whatcha get Austin?"

"This tour."

"Oh... you're their manager for a reason. You'll figure it out." She smiled, brushing past the petite girl, "Can we talk?" She asked Austin.

"Aren't you excited!" Austin smiled, "My first tour and I get to spend it with the people I care most about."

"Awesome... but, Austin-"

"Imagine all the souvenirs we could get! Hey, wait," He called, "Did you ever hear back from work?"

"I got it." She smiled.

Austin held his smile and wrapped Charlotte into a hug, "That's awesome! We have to celebrate!"

"Austin-"

"My treat!"

"I can't go on tour with you."

"What?"

"I quit my job at the diner so I could get this better job, but I have to work over the summer."

"So you just miss the whole tour?"

"I'm sorry."

Austin knew that this was Charlotte's dream. Being upset with her couldn't and wouldn't be an option for him.

"We can still celebrate." He smiled, "I'm happy for you, Charlotte."

And he was. He wasn't going to lie. He saw how hard Charlotte worked and this was her dream.

Austin had achieved his dream with the support of Charlotte and he knew he would have that same support from miles away.

"Lunch?"

Charlotte smiled, "I can do lunch."

And they did. Lunch ran into dinner which lead to a dessert and by all means they knew once they separated it would probably be the last time they saw each other in three months.

A lot could change in three months. A lot could change in three months apart.

The better thought?

Maybe they needed time apart. Maybe it make them see if their relationship was truly worth fighting for and something they could work on.

A ton of pros and a ton of cons... they would sleep on it.

TOO BAD Charlotte barely got sleep. New working hours during the summer was definitely something she had expected, but not to this extent.

She for sure knew that she wouldn't make it to Austin's first show, which Ally was headlining by the way.

Charlotte wanted to be there more than anything, but her mind was on becoming a doctor and she was going to succeed by all means.

She only had the next day to say goodbye to everyone and she knew the event would be bittersweet.

And the next day came a little too fast for anyones liking.

It had grown dark outside and the only one waiting for a final goodbye was Austin.

"I don't think she can make it, Austin." Carter called.

"Just five more minutes."

Things couldn't possibly get worse.

First Charlotte wasn't going on tour and now Ally wasn't either. She had been signed on the spot to a record label and in order to keep that intact she had to stay behind and get songs recorded.

Austin waited and waited for Charlotte to come... but to no avail.

"Hey."

Looking up, Charlotte stood in her work clothes, seemingly out of breath.

"Hey."

"You didn't have to wait for me you know? We could've called."

"I would like to see you in person one last time, if that's okay?"

"It's not like you're leave me forever, Austin."

"Three months is a long time."

"And if we're worth it; we'll wait." She smiled.

She meant that. If this relationship meant anything to either of them, then they would wait.

It was only three months. Nothing bad could possibly happen in three months.
