Chapter 8
FIONA's POV
He smiled at me without saying anything.
"Wait... why are you here?" we chorused
I slightly moved my shoulder to get him off.
Louis rubbed his chin as he stared at me like he wanted me to feel guilty but I couldn't care less.
"I work here, why are you here? Customers should be in the dining room"
He sighed before speaking with a smug look "I'm Louis Walter, I can go anywhere I wish"
"Yeah, that's why you should've been in the VIP room by now if you were not familiar with this place" I stared at him waiting for his reaction.
Louis nodded with a smile "Impressive. This is my mother's restaurant that's why I'm here"
My eyebrows creased like I didn't hear what he just said. He noticed my reaction and repeated himself.
I had a lot on my mind, questions to ask and things to say but now that I think of it, I believe him, this restaurant is very successful and must have spent a huge amount of money to make it what it is today.
"So, what are you cooking?" Louis' voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Vegetable soup"
"Let me guess, this is the vegetarian section right?" I nodded and his facial expression showed he was not interested.
It was time for another shift, I changed my cook's uniform before leaving. I passed the back door and met Louis there then turned involuntarily.
"Hey!" Louis' voice made me halt
"Don't worry about your secret, it's safe with me" he said almost in a whisper. I looked back and was about to say something but ignored it later.
I watched him as he entered the back seat of a small yet expensive-looking black car. He had no convoys today. I tried to figure out why but focused on minding my business and boarding a taxi to the fashion house.
I got to the fashion house on time and waited a few minutes before my shift.
I finished the first set of clothes in an hour, it took me a week and I was finally ready to start the next set. I walked to the clothing section and picked my material before returning to the sewing section.
I froze staring at someone I thought I wouldn't see at least for the end of the day.
"Why are you following me? I'm not, you are" we half-yelled at the same time.
Louis exhaled deeply "Let me guess, you work here"
"Yes I do and your stepmother owns Magnificent fashion house right?"
"Close enough, my aunt"
I thought this was a dream, how did I end up entangled in his family business. Thinking of the good side, Louis is a nice person, I mean it could have been worse.
"So... I can see you every day if I come here" he interrupted.
"You might end up coming at the wrong time" I regretted telling him as I walked to the machine.
"Oh, so which time do you work"
I pretended l did not hear his question and started working on the new cloth.
I felt awkward as he was standing and watching me work, it was like I didn't know where to start and the worst part is not knowing how to make him leave.
My heart began to beat faster as I heard the footsteps of Mrs. Mavis. She's a nice boss but I don't think she will tolerate a lot of mistakes.
She was inspecting our progress and I felt her getting closer and closer. I've not even started, my hands were shaking in confusion when it got to my turn.
To my greatest surprise, she just looked and moved towards the door. I didn't know if it was a good sign or not.
I started the machine when my hands were able to move again. She stopped by the door.
"Louis can you leave so that your girlfriend can concentrate"
I inhaled sharply as my thumb was pricked by the needle and quickly hid it.
"Aunty, she's just a close friend" there was a hint of amusement in his voice.
When she left we shared a moment of silence only the sound of machines could be heard, the place was designed in divisions so no one knew who Mrs. Mavis was referring to.
"I'm going to get a drink, want one?" Louis broke the silence, I shook my head for an answer before he left and came back with a drink, it was almost time for my shift.
I hastily stood up when the shift was over, my hand had been hurting but I had to endure. Now it was over I briskly walked past Louis as he was looking through the window.
"Why are you leaving without telling me?" he pulled my hand and I screamed in pain before he quickly let me go with widened eyes and mouth slightly agape.
"Are you okay?" he asked in a low tone.
"Yes...yes, I'm fine" I made my way out. Now I had the chance to look at my finger. It was stained with fresh blood from his squeeze.
"This is deeper than I expected" I murmured to myself.
"Yeah, it needs to be treated now" I gasped, darting my eyes in shock at the person behind me.
"I-I thought you were inside?"
"I was about to leave soon" he pulled my wrist as he studied the injury
"You can, I'm fine" I tried to pull away but his grip was stronger.
"Come with me, there should be a first aid kit in my car. I'm positive" he pulled me to his car and closed the door before I could even protest.
My face was first cooled by the strong air conditioner spreading through my body in a second, I was tempted to sigh in satisfaction like a child but it turned to a silent 'wow' as my eyes scanned around.
The cream-colored leather had this glossy effect, the stereo system was incredible as a pop song was played, just by glancing at the steering wheel I could tell it was as smooth as anything and would drive a driver crazy.
"Richard, where is the first aid kit?" Louis' voice interrupted my thoughts
"One second please" the moment he said that a drawer automatically pulled out close to his foot.
Louis opened his palm as he shifted his gaze to me.
"You don't have to" I managed to put on what looked like a smile.
Instead of replying he gently took my injured hand and dabbed it with cotton wool. I pressed my lips to suppress the scream at the edge of my mouth as the cold feeling of the methylated spirit burned my inner flesh.
He must have noticed my twitching and lifted his eyes making me pause instantly.
"Sorry, I'm almost done" he smiled warmly and continued.
When he was done he wrapped it in a bandage then caressed the finger for half a second which I thought was weird. I thanked him and was about to get off before he stopped me.
"Where are you going?" Now was not a good time to lie because of the level of guilt that will welcome me that instant.
"I'm going to my next and last working place"
"Wow, you're really something, how do you keep up with school work?"
I knew if I don't think fast I would receive an interview. I smiled weakly and thanked him again before leaving.
I boarded a taxi to the salon but felt like I was missing something. I inhaled sharply with widened eyes as I dipped my hand into my purse.
"My phone is in Louis' car!"
