Chapter Forty-One

<Leon>

I watched as Shina looked outside the window, watching the snow gently falling to the ground as one hand rested on her gently rounded belly. Every time I looked at her, I could feel my heart beat a little faster in both excitement and joy, knowing that we would finally have the family we were always meant to have together. This time, nothing and nobody would take that away from us. From me.

"Shina, beloved, did you want to go outside with me for a while?" I asked her gently as I handed her a mug of warm chocolate, leaning forward to kiss the top of her head.

I watched as she slowly turned her head away from the window, her eyes looking up at me as she seemed to think about her answer. I ran my fingers through her hair as she sat there, waiting patiently for her to respond. It did take her a little longer to find her answers these days, something I felt bad about, but at least she was more... trustworthy these days.

"I want to... watch the snow... falling. I can see... from here." Her halting words caused me to feel guilty and I began making more plans on ways to make it up to her.

I had a lot to make up for, but as long as I had the chance, I could still make things right between us. At least I had done it all out of love. Pressing a soft kiss to her temple, I smiled down at her as gently as I could.

"I love you Shina. I will always love you."

<Matthew>

It was nearly Christmas, but without Mom here I could say I had never felt more uncaring about the holidays passing us by. Halloween and Thanksgiving had already passed with hardly a word between us all. Even Dad could feel the sadness in the house, although he still couldn't remember the most important person in our lives.

Mom, I swear... No matter how long it takes or how many places I have to search, I will find you someday and bring you back home... So please, just wait for me. I'll save you.
