Blackmailing for the sake of investigating

"Now we'll be able to make it right?!" Chrome enthusiastically asked as you all went back to the HQ. "That insane electricity stuff?!"
"Yeah sure!" you smiled. "If I remember correctly, we already have all the things we need. We just needed magnets."

"But Senku," Gen looked at him. "when you say generator, will it be fossil fuel-powered? Wind-powered? Surely not nuclear-powered."
Senku looked at him and was silent for a moment.
"Physical-powered." he casually said.
"Somehow, I figured as much..."

It was getting late, and after a pretty exhausting day, your friends said goodnight and went home for some well deserved rest.
But for you, the day hasn't ended yet.

"Going back to Tsukasa-chan's Empire would take me a few days," Gen explained with a grin. "so I can stay here for a night or two!"
You looked up at the shed, knowing it won't fit the three of you. You were already pretty flustered with just you and Senku.
"Sure." Senku shrugged. "But we'll have to think of something."
"I can sleep here, it's fine." you said, gesturing to the ground.
"No~ it's okay~" Gen placed his hands on your shoulders from behind. "I'm sure Senku-chan won't mind sleeping outside."
'Good sir please remove your hands!'
He only giggled, feeling how tense up you were just by his touch.

You took a step to the side, away from this man's hands.
"Yeah, no thank you."
"Huh? Why not?" he tilted his head. "Surely you didn't mind sleeping with Senku."
"Well...First of all you could've phrased that differently." you quickly said that part. "And second, it's different. He's not a weasel."
"Weasel?!" he exclaimed, not expecting that one.

Senku sighed.
"Stop with this pointless argument you two." he looked at you. "(Y/n), you sleep in the shed."
"But then...?" Gen mumbled.
"We'll both sleep outside." he said as he went to grab two sleeping bags.
Gen groaned in disappointment while you sighed, relieved.

You climbed up to the shed to set your now bigger sleeping space.
"I feel kinda bad..."
"Huh?" Senku looked at you. "Why?"
"Because you have to put up with weasel-boy all night because of me."
He chuckled.
"Is that his nickname now?"
"Only when he's not there to hear it..." you gulped as you imagined calling him that name that he hates again.

His smile softened. He stood up and walked toward the door.
"I would've put up with him with or without you regardless." you looked up at him. "So don't feel bad for that." he stopped in the doorway, his back facing you. "...Good night (Y/n)."
You blinked twice, then smiled.
"Good night."

"And that's what I think my life would be like if it was an anime!"
Senku groaned. Gen, who was laying down as if he was in a lounge or something, has been pestering him for more than half-an-hour now, and no matter how clear he made it that he wanted him to shut up and sleep, he just kept talking! About anything and nothing. Right now it was anime, but not five minutes later it was how he got a date with his middle-school crush thanks to a can of cola. And before that, it was a complete review of a movie franchise he was a fan of and how nothing will come close to the climax of the second movie. And before that it was his god damn morning routine! Senku was pretty sure he made it all up.
He knew he was planning something but he wasn't sure what, and frankly he didn't really want to care. The fire went out a while ago, that's how long he's been talking!

"Senku-chan~ you're asleep?" Gen asked yet another time.
Senku didn't responded. Not like he had to.
"You know, I was just thinking. That fake report I'll give to Tsukasa... I don't think I have to also hide (Y/n)-chan's existence."

In the darkness, Senku slightly shifting in his futon, staring up at him. This was not something he saw coming.
Gen smiled. He's been watching you ever since that first little exchange you both had. He asked a question but never got an answer. And now he'll finally get it.

"I mean... She's not that strong, fast, or intelligent. I don't see why I shouldn't tell Tsukasa about her. She has no value. Yeah she's cute, but a pretty face can only get you so far." his voice turned a bit more mocking. "Kinda makes me wonder if that's the only reason why you revived her."
"No."

Senku moved again to look up at the sky. In the night's darkness, Gen couldn't see his expression.
"She is valuable."
Gen's grin turned into a smirk.
"Oh~? Care to explain further?"
Senku sighed and sat up.
"Fine."

You had a pretty good night of sleep. You forgot how good it was to have your own space to sleep.
When you came down from the shed and saw the two boys awake. You were filled with worry as you noticed Senku's face slightly puffed up overnight. And you knew it was only going to get puffer.

As soon as the whole Kingdom of Science gathered together, it was time to get to work. Melting copper once again but this time, into two giant disc. Then you carved the edges using the corundum from Chrome's collection. After that you prepared long wires made of copper and filled up a large bowl with lacquer.
And at this point, lo and behold, Senku's face was unrecognizable. But no one dared to ask him about it.

"I was considering coating the copper wires in phosphoric acid originally." he said, sitting in front of the bowl. "Lacquer's a little sticky, but it'll work."
"Nope!" you grabbed his shoulder. "Senku, your allergy's already acting like crazy from you coating the iron bar yesterday. I'll do it."
"I was wondering why you turned into Anpanman." Gen mumbled.
"Fine." Senku sighed and walked away.
"Put some cold water on it!" you exclaimed.

He just waved his hand to signify that he heard you. As he walked past Gen, he gave him the side-eye as he noticed that he was still standing in front of you. He didn't want to leave you alone with him. Considering the talk they had last night, who knows what was going on in his head. But, he knew that you wouldn't let your guard down with weasel-boy around. He chuckled as he recalled that name, and that badly hurt his cheeks. He moaned in pain before walking to the river.

"So~ (Y/n)-chan!" Gen smiled widely. "You're a musician?"
You looked up at him with big eyes.
"How...?" you recalled what Chrome told you and frowned. "Did Senku tell you?"
He giggled.
"Like I said, I'm a mentalist darling! I know these things!"
"Oh..." you looked back down and kept coating the wires. "Well, yeah..."
He placed his index on his cheek and tilted his head.
"I guess that explains why Senku revived you. One mystery solved!"

Of course, he only gave you a tiny part of the answer. It'd be only half the fun. Plus there still was something that needed clearance to him.

"No that's not it."
"You sound so sure of yourself." his smile became larger.
"Well... It can't be."

As much as you didn't want to listen to him, it did made you wonder. Senku was the most logical person you've ever known, he'd never de-petrify you just because he likes your talent in music. But then again, you couldn't think of any logical reason for you to be here. But this is Senku we're talking about! There must be a reason! You shook your head, which started to hurt with how hard you were thinking about it in an endless loop of thoughts. Searching for an answer probably won't get you anywhere. Only Senku can give it, and it's not like you'll ever dare to ask him.

Well, Senku and Gen! And god dammit was he proud to hold that precious information while you were racking your brains over it!

"I wouldn't call myself a musician anyway." you said.
"Why? You play music, you're a musician."
"Well there's not really anything to play music with here."
"Why don't you make them? You could ask Senku."
You laughed out loud for a good ten seconds. Then you went back to your task, without giving any answer. A moment of silence passed and Gen sighed and walked away.

Truth be told, this was more underwhelming than he expected, but at least it's another mystery solved for him.
"Classic case of self-doubt." he whispered to himself.

You all admired your new electric generator. It was tall, it was big, just amazing. But because it was a primitive version, there was another thing to take care of.
"If we don't synchronize and spin the discs together, it could break and all come apart." Chrome said.
"Yeah." Senku, his face now back to normal. "If only there was a duo with a lot of stamina and physical skills, and also totally in tune with each-other."
A moment of silence past before you all looked at each-other. You turned your heads towards Kinrou and Ginrou.
"Ginrou yes, but Kinrou probably won't be on board with this." you said. "After his precious spear got disintegrated because of us."

Gen walked forwards.
"Wow oh wow!" he chanted, swinging his arms around and acting like he was walking on clouds. "Electricity really is amazing isn't it Senku-chan?! In our world of sorcery there were all kinds of devices that ran on electricity!"
You fought the urge to smile, not liking the fact that you liked his idea.
"With electricity, things like gold of silver spears would be no problem to make and repair right?!"

Senku and you walked up to him.
"Electric coating is really fricking tough." he whispered. "Do you even know the recipe?"
"Not the first thing~." he shrugged.
"But THEY don't know it either." you whispered, smiling.
"Ooo~ I like your spunk." Gen raised an eyebrow.
You puffed a chuckle at his choice of word. Meanwhile, the two guards had their eyes full of sparkles.

The night began to fall. Kinrou and Ginrou were still spinning the discs, fueled by the promise of new shiny spears. Chrome and Senku went on the shed's roof while you and the other staid on the ground.
"Do we need a high place?" Kohaku asked.
"Kukuku, not at all." Senku said. "But I figured since we already went through all the trouble of making it."
"Making what though...?" you mumbled.
You saw the bamboo fiber he showed Gen, but he didn't specify what it was for.

Senku connected the two copper wires to the ends of the fiber. Your eyes went big and you softly gasped when you saw a gently glow, slowly getting brighter.
"I see now!" Gen exclaimed. "That's a light bulb, made from bamboo!"

Senku and Chrome were talking to each-other. But your attention was solely focused on the light bulb's light which only got brighter and brighter. In the night's darkness, that single light was shining everything around you. It felt like a window to your past life. Images popped up in your head, of the city busy streets at night where it's just as bright as daylight. You never thought you would see electricity ever again. Your eyes became watery, but you did your best not to cry.
You placed a hand of your chest. Your heart was racing. Just like that light, something inside you has awakened. Something you never thought you'd feel again.

That moment was short, but it felt a lot longer. And now everything was dark and quiet again.

"Senku!" you exclaimed.
Quickly and clumsily, you climbed up the ladder to join Senku, who staid on the roof while Chrome came down.
"Do you realize what we did?!" you looked at him with a big smile. "We fuckin did it! We started this with nothing and now we fuckin made electricity! We did it!"
Senku looked at his hand which was holding the wires, then gripped it tighter.
"Yeah... One year and four months later. We've made it all this way!" he exclaimed with a big smile.

"We've made it!" you raised your arms in the air and then hugged him tightly.
"Huh?! Hey!" he struggled. "You're gonna make me fall!"
"Sorry! Sorry!" you let him go, still smiling. "I don't know why I'm so happy!"

Lie, you knew why. And Senku had an idea why.

That feeling, as much as you wanted to repress it, you knew it won't be as easy. Because you knew you won't be able to, not for very long.
