xxxiii. Infinite train
Season one, chapter thirty-three
"They are more than friends;
they are family"
WHY WHEN everything seemed to be going well does it eventually have to collapse? Although Thea had already heard the term that not everything lasts forever or not every story has a happy ending. She was more than sure that Mo-tak deserved it after having gone through all those atrocities, however the universe seemed to think otherwise because now it had taken away the person he loved.
It's incredible that just when he barely managed to remember it, the universe decides to take it away from him, almost as if it had said; 'No, you haven't suffered enough. You have to suffer more' and thus take away the love of his life.
When Thea and Mun returned from their night walk that night, they simply arrived to receive the bad news instead of being the ones to tell the good news about their relationship. That night was so depressing for everyone, especially seeing Mo-tak's vulnerable behavior.
"Hello"
"Oh, you're here"
Thea and the others bowed as the eldest entered the restaurant, all wearing black in respect to Mo-tak's deceased love.
"I'm coming from her funeral" Jangmul began to say, letting out a long sigh of sadness
"Is the burial tomorrow?" Ms. Chu asked softly
"Yes, I'm sure you guys all want to go to the funeral but say your goodbyes later" Jangmul responded remaining completely silent when Mo-tak entered the restaurant with a serious face as if all this did not affect him at all
"There's no 'later'. Todays the last day I can do it" Mo-tak said, staring at the older man as if he were telling him not to try to stop him
"You'll go there? Mo-tak, please calm down and think rationally. You're aware they all think you guys are dead. You shouldn't be seen now" Jangmul began to try to reason with him
"But I need to say a proper goodbye. We never really had a chance to talk" Mo-tak justified in place before starting to walk towards the exit
"Mo-tak..." Ms. Chu stood up from her chair hoping that he would stop but he ignored her without any problem and walked past towards the door
Thea sighed in frustration, she wouldn't say she understood his pain because she had never lost a partner and she hopes not to because she has had enough of family losses.
"I'll go with him" Mun suddenly said looking in the direction in which the elder had gone
"Take care, call me if something happens" Thea asked, getting up from her seat with a worried expression, approaching her boyfriend who was about to cross the door
"Sure, I'll call you" He said softly, caressing one of her cheeks before walking out the door, adjusting his black cap in the process, but not before giving her a comforting smile letting her know that everything would be fine
Thea stood in the door frame for a few seconds, watching her boyfriend's figure disappear into the distance. She trusted him, she trusted him to stop Mo-tak from doing something stupid.
"They we're finding the campaign illegally" Mo-tak began to explain, passing some papers to Mun and Hana "Clearly, the money went to Shin Myeong-hwi"
Thea and Ms. Chu approached the teenager who was sitting at one of the corners of the table with the papers in his hands.
"Five billion won?" Mun asked in surprise when reading the amounts of money
"My goodness. So they killed her just because she found out about the illicit funds? Just like they killed Mun's father seven years ago?" Ms. Chu began to ask with a frown
"But this time, it's different" Mun got up from the table passing the papers to Thea when she asked him to "My dad's case was seven years ago, whereas this has only just begun. We can use this to take them down"
"Not if we use the same method" Hana responded walking back and forth with the paper in her hands "The memories won't be considered evidence, and they'll destroy all solid evidence" Thea put one of her hands on Mun's shoulder when he sighed frustratedly although he recovered almost instantly when he felt the girl's warmth on his shoulder "They made people believe that the burnt corpse is Ji Cheong-sin's, and no one even remembers that mountain of garbage anymore. They keep killings officers on the case"
"Then what should we do with these bastards?" Ms. Chu asked in frustration
"Let's do this their way" Hana commented stopping her steps, thus capturing the entire attention of the group
"'Their way'?"
"They think Ji Cheong-sin burned us to death. We'll move quietly as if we're actually dead. These five billion won... let's steal it" Hana proposed sitting in one of the chairs around the table
"That money?"
"We'll steal it? Are you kidding me?" Ms. Chu asked with a serious face, probably mentally refusing to do this
"Actually, she has a point" Jangmul began to say supporting Hana as he approached the group "Even if it gets stolen, they can't report it to the police. They can't prove it's their money"
"So we'll rob them of their campaign funds?" Mo-tak asked with both of his arms crossed over his chest knowing full well where all this was leading
"Okay" Jangmul nodded in approval "We'll hang them out to dry. Who will they reach out to when the money runs dry?"
"Another financial backer" Thea added realizing where this was all going
"They'll call me their savior"Jangmul exclaimed, bumping his fists with Thea's
"What will we do with that money though?" Ms. Chu pointed
"Since it came from the people's pockets, we'll return it to them" Mo-tak exclaimed looking at her
"Bingo" Jangmul pointed at him with his index finger
"Then let's do it. We have to do this" Mun said, resting his hands on the table
"Before that..." Mo-tak began to say getting up from his seat "We must break them up first. Mayor Shin, Cho Tae-sin, Choi Su-ryong. We have to break them up. Only then will we have a chance"
"Right"
"When the money disappears into thin air, they'll be suspicious of one another" Hana added, looking up to see him better
"Okay. I'll try to pull some strings" Jangmul commented nodding his head
"Guys, hold on. Our job is to capture evil spirits, not go after corruption. Those in Yung won't be okay with this" Ms. Chu tried to reason against all this
"Will you let a murderer become president?" Jangmul asked her trying to convince her
"Gosh, no. We can't let that happen" Ms. Chu shook her head, complaining in the process like a little girl
"They love money, so we'll use money to take them down" Jangmul eventually summarized the entire plan
"I'm going to Yung" Mo-tak announced
"I'll go with you" Ms. Chu quickly offered to accompany him but Mo-tak simply looked at her as if telling her that he would go alone
The group watched as Mo-tak went to sit in one of the deeper chairs in the restaurant. Surely looking for peace and tranquility to be able to do it.
"So are you two like dating now?" Hana asked suddenly, catching everyone off guard
"Who?" Ms. Chu questioned confused, looking at Hana for answers
"Mun and Thea. They had it well kept" Hana responded pointing at both teenagers who now seemed to be redder than the tomato itself after having been betrayed by their supposed friend
"What!? You two are dating!?" Ms. Chu exclaimed loudly as if she did not expect all this to happen
"I saw it coming. You two were as obvious as me and Ms. Chu" Jangmul commented with a mischievous smile on his face upon seeing the expression of the aforementioned
"Obvious? What's so obvious about us?" Ms. Chu said back with a look of clear disgust on her face, making the chairman laugh in the process "Anyway, I'm so happy that you guys were finally able to confess everything to each other. I give you my full approval and I hope you can last for a long, long, time" Ms. Chu exclaimed with a sincere smile on her face
"Just don't break up so quickly because that would make work between you a little awkward" Hana commented crossing her arms "You have my approval too so please last long"
"Hey Mun, don't even think about breaking this girl's heart because I won't be the one to kill you. I'll make sure she does it herself" Jangmul warned him with a serious face, trying his best to intimidate him, something he managed to do Instantly
"I would never do something like that chairman. You have nothing to worry about, she's in good hands" Mun exclaimed, drawing a smile on his face before turning his head to see Thea, who already had her gaze on him
They both connected their gazes, saying many things to each other with just that. Thea lowered her gaze shyly when the boy gently took her hand in his, she wasn't used to it but it wouldn't take her long to get used to it.
"Oh, he's back" Ms. Chu said bringing the attention to the aforementioned approaching them "Mo-tak, how did it go? Do we have their permission?"
"In regard to taking down those assholes, they won't intervene at all"Mo-tak announced, drawing smiles on the faces of his companions.
"Yes!" Mun said loudly as he raised his hands in the air, taking Thea's hand with him, who was unexpectedly startled when she felt her hand being raised in the air "I'm sorry" The boy apologized, rubbing Thea's hand as if it were something completely delicate, which made her laugh in amusement
"Nice"
"Let's do this!"
"We'll have to do this as quietly as possible, so let's close the restaurant for a while" Hana recommended with a determined expression
"Okay, let's do that. We'll capture Ji Cheong-sin and help Mun's parents ascend. We can reopen after that" So technically they closed the restaurant. No one could suspect that they were still alive, that everything they thought about their death was false
Author's note;
Well, the others already found out that they're both dating, how did Hana find out? 😨 God knows how because she seems to know everything about Thea 💀 Isn't that kind of creepy? Maybe because she really loves her as a sister and cares about her 🤷♀️
Question of the day: Would you like to see a jealous Mun? 👀
I will try to update on Saturdays and Sundays since they're my only days off, but I don't promise anything! 💕
