xxiv. Secret lovers

Season one, chapter twenty-four

"The power inside of me;
it's terrifying"

HISTORY SEEMED to repeat itself once again, her heart was pounding and fear filled her in a matter of seconds. Fear? Fear of losing another loved one. When Hyun-ki gave her the news that Mun was in danger, she did not hesitate to get out of her bed at lightning speed, leaving aside her tiredness.

And here she was, running down the dark street with the cold wind hitting her delicate face. The worry was more than noticeable and anyone would say that that boy was her entire life, and maybe he was. He saved her, he saved her from sinking into that dark hole with no way out, he brought the sun to her gray sky, he saved her again and again and the least she could do is return the favor.

"Mun!" Thea exclaimed so loudly her throat hurt. She stopped her steps when she saw the boy on the ground, feeling the tears fall down her cheeks with pure fear written on her face "Mun..." Thea gasped in horror kneeling on the ground seeing Mun's delicate face stained in blood

"Thea..." He said with difficulty, placing his weak eyes on the girl's figure

"Yes, you'll be okay" Thea assured with trembling voice and shiny eyes due to the tears, she hurried to help Ms. Chu put a handkerchief around his injured hand

"Hang in there, Mun. I'll heal you" Ms. Chu said with a trembling voice, putting pressure on his hand to stop the bleeding "Mun. He has a severed artery, and his bones are crushed" Ms. Chu explained, turning her head to look at Mo-tak who was standing next to the detective who now seemed to be involved in every one of their business

"I'll call for an ambulance" The detective exclaimed, taking her phone out of her back pocket

"No human being can fix him" Mo-tak said stopping her from calling the ambulance

"This territory isn't strong enough. Go find a stronger territory, Hana"

"Okay" Hana closed her eyes before opening them again "There's a huge territory at the park"

"Mun. Please hang in there, Mun" Mo-tak asked, delicately lifting the boy's unconscious body from the ground

Thea wiped away the treacherous tears that fell down her red cheeks because of the cold environment. She hadn't even bothered to bring a coat, she had left the restaurant with only one goal on her mind and that didn't include her well-being.

Time now seemed to pass slowly and Thea just wanted this horrible nightmare to end once and for all.

"Can you do this? It won't be easy to heal something this bad" Mo-tak asked so anxiously that he was almost biting his nails in desperation

"I'll do it even if I have to risk my life. Don't worry. I'll heal him" Ms. Chu assured, glancing down at the unconscious boy in Thea's arms, who had no plans to let him go

When Ms. Chu's eyes connected with Thea's, the younger girl nodded in recognition before gently taking Mun's hand in hers making him moan in pain

The group watched attentively as Ms. Chu closed her eyes, her hands emitted a purple color, and instantly the boy in Thea's arms began to moan in pain. Although the worried expression on the brown-haired girl's face never went away.

"Mommy's hands are healing hands. Mun's bones are tough and strong" Ms. Chu began to sing "Mommy's hands are healing hands. Mun, you'll be fine. Mommy's hands are healing hands. Mun, you'll be fine" She began to cry while Mun moaned loudly in pain "Mommy's hands are healing hands. Mun's bones are tough and strong. Mommy's hands are healing hands. Mun, you'll be fine" The oldest repeated with her eyes closed

"Ms. Chu..." Hana gasped in surprise as blood began to come out of Ms. Chu's nostrils

Thea bit her lower lip holding back her tears, now her worry multiplied twice as much. Now she was not only worried about Mun but also about her mother figure, who had surely lost several years of her life healing Mun's wounds.

"Ms. Chu!" Mo-tak exclaimed running towards her when she finally collapsed. "Ms. Chu" He wiped the blood from her nose with the thumb of his hand "Are you okay?"

Thea stretched out her hand with a small smile on her face, one that showed how grateful she was to the eldest for having saved one of the most important people to her. The brown-haired girl gently took Ms. Chu's hand in hers and she weakly smiled in response, feeling relief consume their entire bodies.

Thea moved the unruly locks from the forehead of the boy lying on Mo-tak's bed, who was probably talking to Detective Kim Jeong-yeong about what happened. Thea just hoped that he could fix everything with her properly.

Both Thea and Hana watched as Ms. Chu cleaned Mun's delicate face with a wet cloth, although Thea couldn't help but move her eyes to Ms. Chu hair, it had become whiter than it already was and that made her feel useless. Unable to help with anything, Ms. Chu had made it clear that she did not want her to use her powers to heal anyone.

Thea knew that the older one did it out of affection and because she cared about her like a mother, so she couldn't disobey her orders.

Ms. Chu handed the damp cloth to Thea who placed it on the table behind her, although the older got the attention on her when she sniffed.

"Are you okay?" Hana asked worriedly, handing her a piece of paper

"Yes" Ms. Chu responded wiping the blood from her nose

"You must've lost at least a year of your life trying to heal him" Thea commented with a frown "But that's why I'm here, if you had let me help you..."

"Don't even think about finishing that sentence, young lady. I'm fine. It's more than worth it to give it up for a young kid" Ms. Chu responded looking at Thea with a frown for a few seconds before softening her intimidating gaze

Although everyone knew that Thea's powers consisted of helping the group of counters to make their tasks easier, and at first no one opposed that because they had someone to count on, but when Ms. Chu found out that healing someone took days, months, weeks, or years off her life, she immediately forbade her from using her healing powers.

Hana sighed heavily as she crossed her arms, though Thea jumped a little when Mun's phone started ringing behind her. Thea carefully took the phone from Mun's coat pocket, reading the caller's contact name before showing it to her two elders.

"It's well over 11 p.m" Ms. Chu commented "He must be worried. What should we do?"

Thea sighed deeply before answering the call. She waited a few seconds before putting the phone to her ear.

"Yes, hello?" Thea asked softly, moving slightly away from both women who seemed to have their gaze fixed on her

"Is this Mun's girlfriend?" Mun's grandfather asked, catching her a little off guard having forgotten the way in which Mun had introduced her to his grandfather

"Girlfriend... Yes, we've met before. My name is Thea" Thea introduced herself, frowning nervously

"Are you with him right now?" The older man asked on the other end of the phone "He went out to get bungeoppang and hasn't come back, and now it's 11 o'clock"

"Bungeoppang?"

"Can you put him on the phone?" He asked with concern evident in his voice. Thea turned around  to look at both women for help

Thea pressed the doorbell button on Mun's house. She scratched the back of her neck nervously wondering what the hell was she doing there and why was she there? She held the plastic bag she was carrying tightly in her hands. She had stopped by to buy the Bungeoppang on her way to Mun's grandparents' house that Mun was supposed to buy.

It was the least she could do for him after everything he did for her. That was what she told herself in her head to stay firm and keep her nerves away from her.

"Who is it?" She bit her lower lip when she heard the older man's voice

"Oh, hello" Thea bowed and so the door in front of her made a sound letting her know that it was now unlocked, so she opened the metal door regretting coming with every step she took

She took off her shoes once inside the cozy and sweet home where Mun's grandparents resided.

"Goodness" The older man said receiving the bag that the girl offered him "Did you come by to drop off bungeoppang?"

"I thought you'd be worried" Thea explained, watching Mun's grandmother approach with obvious emotion on her wrinkled face

"They got into a fight" The older man commented to his wife who instantly erased the smile from her face

"A fight?" She repeated with confusion

"Mun went out to get bungeoppang, then met with his girlfriend. They got into a fight while they were hanging out, and that rascal ran off somewhere" The older man explained while Thea stood there awkwardly

"He'll be home soon" Thea assured, ready to get out of there as soon as possible

"Have you had dinner?" The older man asked her before she could turn around

"Pardon?" She questioned with a nervous smile on her face

Of course she couldn't refuse the older man's offer, part of it because she felt a little embarrassed about refusing to stay for dinner. Maybe they would see her as a poorly educated girl and that would leave a very bad impression of her on them.

"Here. Take this" The old lady beside her said, giving her some metal chopsticks, smiling sweetly at her "Eat up, Mun-yeong" She said, stroking Thea's long, curly hair, who turned to look at the man in confusion

"That's Mun's mom" He responded, noticing the expression of confusion on the younger's face

"I see" Thea said in recognition watching the older man put plates on the table. "Okay" She said towards the eldest. The brown-haired girl took her chopsticks ready to start eating but she noticed how both adults just looked at her expectantly with a smile on their faces. She tried not to give it much importance so as not to make herself more uncomfortable than she already was and took a bite of the jeon on her chopsticks "The jeon is still warm" She commented trying to start a conversation

"I warmed it up again for Mun to eat when he comes back" He explained "I'm even happier now that you've had a bite" He let out a small laugh as Thea smiled at him in response

"You should eat too" Thea encouraged them, trying to divert the attention from her

"All right" The oldest nodded and began to eat

"You can eat this after you finish your dinner" The woman told her, putting a small plate with a cookie next to the brown-haired girl

"Goodness, thank you" Thea thanked, feeling severely welcome in this house

"You're so pretty" The woman exclaimed, putting a lock of the girl's hair behind her ear

"You're prettier" Thea exclaimed, gently taking the older's hand in hers

"What?" They both let out a small laugh

"I heard you and Mun have been together for two months" The older man asked so suddenly that Thea began to choke on the food she had in her mouth "Goodness"

"I guess... I'm sorry" Thea exclaimed with difficulty

"Drink some water" The oldest exclaimed, serving her a glass of water "Here" Thea immediately received it, she took a huge sip of water as the eldest patted her on the back

"It has been that long, I guess" Thea exclaimed, putting the now empty glass aside "Yes, it's been that long already" She said before coughing again

"Goodness" The older man exclaimed with concern, "I also heard that you were the one who asked him out, is that true?"

"Ah... yes, well..." Thea began to stutter nervously "Your grandson is very kind and handsome, I mean... yes, I was the one who asked him first."

"Yes, he is, you have a very good eye, young lady." The older man exclaimed, letting out a laugh of amusement when he noticed the youngest's nerves.

Oh, but what a shame Thea was going through at that moment, she just wanted the earth to swallow her right there and then.

Author's note;

I feel bad for Thea, she really had to humiliate herself like that to avoid being discovered by Mun's grandparents. I mean, I would too, but that's not the case lol. Well this concludes today's chapter 😭
