Chapter 17: I should have known

"I'm heading back to my place." Said Celest looking for the quickest route. "See you-"

"Wait!" You grabbed onto her before she could leave. "Are you okay? You seemed a bit tense back there." You asked, worried about your friend.

Celest relaxed in your grasp. "I'm...sorry about that, it's just, stress ya know?" You weren't completely convinced. There was still something that seemed off.

"Yeah, well, when you get home, send me a message so I know you're okay." You reached out to give her a hug, to which she gladly returned.

"Of course. You take care too. See you later." She showed you a soft smile then was off again.

You took a deep breath and rushed off back to your apartment.

Thankfully you didn't run into any problems and the first thing you did was turn on the TV. You flipped through the channels, most of them showing only static.

"Come on, come on..." You felt blind, not knowing what was going on, but finally, there was a news channel still going on, the signal was a little off but this was as good as it was going to get.

-

"I'll only say this once, surrender and no one else has to get hurt." Deku tried to reason even though he knew that after all this he wouldn't give up.

He scoffed in response. "Too late for that don't ya think?"

"Just give it up Gray Zone." Uravity spoke up, taking a shot in the dark about his identity.

"Well, would you look at that? Smart and beautiful? If only you weren't on the other side." Without warning, Gray Zone lunged forward ready to land the first hit.

Deku stood in front of Uravity to take whatever was coming at them since he still didn't know what his quirk was.

Just as he was about to get close enough he fell through the floor.

"What the?" Deku and Uravity looked around, slightly in panic.

"Does he have a quirk similar to Mirio's?" The brunette asked.

"I'm not sure, but keep your guard up."

" Aw, but you've gotta be quicker than that." He appeared from behind and pushed them on the ground with greater force than they expected.

As soon as he came he disappeared through the concrete floor. Smashing the ground from underneath creating a shallow ditch, separating the bystanders' escape from the docks. "Looks like you all will be here for a little longer." He reappeared back facing them, and dusting his hands off, a knowing smirk crawled to his lips, "Now, where were we?"

Gone again from sight.

Deku and Uravity had seen enough to get a pretty good idea of his quirk by then. "Get ready." Deku prepared.

And just as predicted.

He appeared from behind them ready to deliver another blow, but the heroes were prepared.

The pair sprinted skywards. "What-?" Mid-flight they were dragged back down, slamming to the ground with a sickening crack.

"Come on! I'm not even breaking a sweat here!" The villain boasted only angering the duo even further.

Deku was on the case in a split second, finally catching the villain off guard. He was back in the air in seconds with a charged punch. "Villains like you should be taught a lesson!" Deku swung his fist making his opponent barely get the chance to dodge.

"Hey, just like the little lady said before, the names Gray Zone." It looked like Deku was finally getting him to show his true colors. "And the same should go for you!" He shot what seemed like black strings from his hand which surprised our main hero.

Once Deku was back on the ground, he and Uravity immediately started dodge whatever the hell he was shooting at them.

"Deku..."

"I know, It looks a lot like my quirk." Deku grunted as he tried his best to steer Gray Zone away from the civilians.

"What are you doing number one? Running away isn't going to solve anything!" His attacks never let up so Deku had to take the chance and decided to launch a piece of debris but it fazed though it.

"What the heck is that?" Questioned Uravity.

"I'm still not sure but whatever it is, he can make it tangible and intangible at will."

All of a sudden Gray Zone let up his attacks and disappeared. "Stay on your guard." Deku and Uravity were now back to back, waiting for whatever was to come.

"Is someone getting nervous?" They could hear his voice but they didn't know where it was coming from. "I can hear your heart beating faster."

"Come out and fight!" Uravity called out, her frustration slowly building up.

"It'll be my pleasure." The two heroes could sense something coming from the north side of the docks and they were ready to dodge once again but something seemed different.

"Oh I'm sorry but that wasn't meant for you." Gray Zone snickered as he watched his rays of black shadows headed towards the nearby civilians.

"No!" Uravity was about to jump in without a second thought but Deku knew she wasn't thinking straight and that this wouldn't end well if he didn't think fast enough.

Like a bullet, he took off just as the streaks of black were to make contact he took the hit, saving the people, but getting caught within the concrete instead.

"How noble and stupid." Gray Zone taunted, his voice encircling the vicinity, smug as a villain can get when victory seemed so close.

Deku got back up, rattled, fastened the black streaks around his forearm, only to get dragged towards the villain. He couldn't believe how much power the villain still possessed.

"It ends now." Gray Zone announced, several dark streaks latching onto the hero's limbs and around his torso and neck.

"You have no idea." And from above, without notice, chunks of broken off debris came crashing down.

With one loud crack, a cloud of dust scattered across the sight of impact.

"Did we get him?" Uravity glided down to stand in-between the rubble and the bystanders. She keeps her guard up, knowing that they can't claim their victory just yet.

A minute passed, still no sign of life.

"You think it's over?" Uravity said walking up to the side of the number one.

Before he could answer, a block tumbled down, putting the heroes' guard back up. "He can be coming from anywhere."

That was when the ground began to shake. First, it was pebbles bouncing from the traction then the whole area of the harbor started moving, waves gently crashing to the disruption.

Without realizing it, the ground began to crack and shattered right where all the people were standing, sending them directly into the water.

"Da-Mister Uraraka, watch out!" Uravity shouted.

But it was too late. Gray Zone had thrust the water, the people were sent out to sea. Uravity didn't miss a beat to go and save them, as did Deku, however,

"Now that that nuisance is out of the way." Gray Zone dusted himself off again, smiling contentedly. "I have you right where I want you."

And that was when he understood. He was trying to get to him the whole time. For what? Is something he didn't have time to answer, for Gray Zone was back on the attack, he knew better than to leave an opening. The strings of darkness slammed and slapped at the hero, but he wasn't about to let this guy win.

"No more kidding around, Number one, give me all you got."

In a flash- "You asked for it." Deku disappeared from the onslaught. " Detroit..." And reappeared behind Gray Zone. "-Smash!"

And it was lights out for Gray Zone.

Uravity managed to levitate everyone back to solid ground, clearly exhausted from the overexertion of her quirk.

She almost tumbled to the floor, getting back down. Deku went to give her a hand,

"Dad! No!"

In one last desperate attempt to cause chaos Gray Zone shot straight to the crowd. Once again, Deku blocks, but what the cameras failed to show was, this time he wasn't getting back up either.

The camera focused on the villain being apprehended. "The heroes have done it again!"

Meanwhile, you let out a long sigh and unclasped your hands from the tight grip you had on your couch cushion. It was finally over.

Gray Zone started cackling maniacally, turning to lie on his back, his laugh only muffled when he was being taken away.

After all of this madness, you were starting to think that telling him that you know about his true identity was a better idea, plus, after the exchange you two had, there was no way around it.

You were about to turn off the T.V when you noticed that Uravity was crying and saying something to Deku but you felt your heart drop to the pit of your stomach when she suddenly planted a kiss on Izuku's lips.

"What's this! It seems like the rumors are true!" You wanted the reporter to shut up, your anger gradually building up as Izuku didn't do anything to stop her move on him. "Looks like Deku and Uravity are closer than ev-" You turned off your T.V and threw the remote across the room hearing a satisfying crack to it when it hits the wall.

But slowly, all the anger you were building up was turning into sorrow and regret. You curled up on your couch and held your legs close to your chest and let out a long sigh.

I should have known it would end up like this.
