Chapter One
"So, Misaki, what manga are you working on?" Rene asks. I based Yuki after her. Every detail. Her hair was dyed bright blue and her eyes were a mesmerizing gray. The outfit I gave Yuki was a reference to her favorite television show. Leather jacket with flannel underneath, faded blue jeans and hiker boots. Yuki's chapter was a martial artist who was quite good at creating weapons. Be it with tools or chemicals, she was good. Thus the title, deadly science.
"Deadly Science. I may be working monthly, but you realize my other series are long since over. I'm wrapping this one up soon as well." I inform.
"Why's that?" She asks.
"Well, I feel as if their adventure needs to end. It feels right." I admit.
"What do you plan on doing?" she asks.
"I'm not telling you the end. But I will say this, my own life will influence the end. So read. Anyways, I finished the manuscript, so I'll fax it over the. We can go get a bite to eat." I inform, going to my fax machine and facing the manuscript to my editor. He would text me when he got it. "Let's go Rene." The two of us head out.
"There's this new Cosplay I want to check out." Rene informs.
"So to the mall we go." We book it over to Winters Mall. It's pretty huge, having three mother fucking floors."let's get some food at the food court first." I suggest.
"Sounds good. What do you plan on getting?" Rene questions.
"Some Panda Express would be nice. You?" I inform.
"Taco Bell." She informs as well.
"God, that shit makes you fast as all hell." I complain.
"Don't start with me. I'll be I. Our usual spot." We split and I go get some food from Panda Express. Our usual spot was right in the dead center of the food court. We can scope out possible characters that way. I get my food and head to the spot. Unfortunately for me, I just had to run smack into someone, sending my crap flying. Lucky for me, I had a friend close by who caught that crap.
"Don't waste food." She took my tray and sat our things down. I was sitting on the ground from falling and the person I ran into was still standing.
"I'm so sorry about that." The person apologized. Male. I look up and see and attractive male with someone who looked like his sister behind him. They both had starts black hair and the boy had grey eyes while the girl had green.
"No, it's okay." I take him hand as he pull me up. "I'm just glad that no injury came to my hand." I comment.
"Oh, are you an artist?" The girl questions.
"An artist and a story writer." I admit.
"Well, then it's good no injury came to your hand. I'm Kuro and this is my sister Haruka." They introduced.
"I'm Misaki. Nice to meet you two." I noticed the sister holding food. "If you want, you can sit with me and my friend Rene?" I suggest.
"She wouldn't mind?" Haruka comments.
"Me and her like making new friends." I smile. The two nod and follow me to the table.
"Rene, this is Haruka and Kuro. Haruka, Kuro, this is Rene." They nodded a greeting and we sat down with our food.
"Oh, Misaki, did your editor text you yet?" Rene questions.
"No, I'll check." My phone rings.
"Well, be right back. Don't steal my food." I warn Rene. She smirks.
"No promises." I roll my eyes and get up, going a little ways away and pick up my phone.
(A/N: I don't feel like writing in Japanese and translating, so while he's on the phone with his editor, he's speaking in Japanese)
"Hello mr editor." I joke.
"I got the manuscript. Do you always have to send ten at a time? What if one is awry?" My editor, Hiroki sighs.
"You know by now they're next to perfect." I snicker.
"Fine. Also, I got the note, you want to end the series?" He questions.
"The story won't finish for another six months and that's sixty chapters. But yes, I feel that the series needs to wrap up. And the last part of the series will end in the best way possible." I inform.
"How can you assure that?" Hiroki questions.
"I've already told you that all my characters are based off real life people, right?" I question.
"Yes? You even said the main character Natsu, is a representation of yourself." He agreed.
"Well, the next chapters will show more of the characters, and Their lives, but the last chapter, I plan to reveal who I am. But it will be subtle." I inform.
"I can't wait to see where you take this." With the way he sounded, I could tell he's smiling.
"Anyways, you promise to let little Shinichi to read the manuscripts too?" I ask. Shinichi was my editors son, I've met him a few times when I went to Japan occasionally. He reads my mangas.
"Of course. You should come and visit. He's dying to see you. My wife loves your company too. My son is extremely happy how you made us into the series." I smile.
"It makes me happy that he's happy. An artist in training. Well, I have to go, I'm doing some character scouting." I inform.
"Lunch with your friend doesn't count. Have fun." He hangs up and I out my phone away, heading back.
"So, what did your editor say?" Haruka questions. She didn't believe me.
"He asked me why I was ending my series. I gave him a reason. Oh Rene, your flying with me next time we visit him." I inform.
"His son absolutely loves you. That little boy is going to become just like you." She prods.
"Is that a bad thing?" I smile.
"Nope." She smiles too.
"Are you two, involved?" Kuro questions.
"What! No! I have a boyfriend. Besides, I've known Misaki since we were babies. No attraction to him. Besides, I can't date a guy who's cuter than me!" She joked.
"Yeah, us dating would never happen. Rene is like a sister to me. Besides, that would make things pretty awkward between us." I shiver.
"Definitely. What about you two, dating anyone?" Rene questions.
"I'm not. I'm just finishing up four years of college, couldn't find the time. My sister just started college as well." He admitted.
"Yeah, I'm in med school myself. Misaki over here graduated last year at the top of his class because he's a perfect little son of a bitch." Rene joked.
"People always wonder how I balance my life." I shrug.
"What do you mean by that?" Haruka questions.
"Well, I was able to keep the top of my year for my entire life while participating in every sport they had to offer, in two plays at my schools, and still have time to make friends. People ask how I do it, and the secret is, I don't even know. It's probably my parents." I shrug.
"Your mom is nuts and your dad absolutely adores her." Rene takes a sip from her drink.
"What specifically do you do for a living?" Kuro questions.
"Well, I'm an artist an a story writer, but I can't say what I am. The fans of my stories still have no idea who I am and I would prefer to keep it that way." I admit.
"He's a manga artist. He started when he was twelve and somehow made a career out of it. I only know because I caught him drawing a manuscript when we were younger. He puts people he knows from real life in his stories. The main character is the alter ego of himself and his butt kicking best friend is me." Rene informs.
"Oh, wait, are you Kichi? I was at the comic con and saw you just storm up on stage." Haruka comments.
"That would be." I admit.
"But don't Natsu and Yuki have sex in the manga?" She comments.
"I was trying to draw a audience with that factor but I guess it kinda stuck after I joked about it a few times. Though, with recent development in my story, that will change." I inform.
"What does your real life will influence your story even mean? You hang out with me mostly." Rene mutters.
"That's what you think. I only hang out with you on weekends because you're busy with school. Besides, think I'm the only person out there who likes art?"I check the time.
"We were going to check out that cosplay shop, we have to reschedule don't we?" Rene sighs.
"Busy?" Kuro asks.
"You could say that. He always has to go somewhere. You'd think he'd stop being so mysterious." I sigh and grab my tray of food. Only half was eaten. And it was barely that.
"I'm sorry. I'll text you later." I throw away the rest of my food and head out, leave the mall. I don't know how so much time flew away. I head over to my part time job. Yes, even though I am basically a rich artist, I like to work at certain types of jobs. I have two. Tutoring and Art class. Today I'm teaching an art class.
"Late again Mr. Daniels." A student of mine jokes.
"I'm balancing three jobs and a social life." I defend as I sit on my desk.
"So, what are we doing today oh great teacher." Another student asks.
"Today, you'll pick a random picture of a person in your phone that's not you or your family and draw them. Try to convey your relationship through the art. No words are allowed. Now hop to it, I'm not going to give you many chances to use your phones." I smile. Just as my phone rings. I check the number.
"I'll only be a minute." I was aware my students listened to my phone conversations, so I leaned against the wall outside.
"I'm at work. I told you not to call me. We're not even dating." I sigh.
"Well, if someone would take the commitment and actually asked me out." I roll my eyes.
"No. That was a huge mistake. Go find some other rich guy to mooch off of. I rather have a life free of you. In fact, I've set up a restraining order." I informed.
"You son of a bitch!" She screamed.
"Rot in hell Stacy." I hang up and rub my temples.
"That was, something." My assistant teacher comments. His name was Quinn. He had brown eyes blonde hair and thick glasses.
"Oh don't you start. Hard to meet honest people nowadays." I complain.
"Yeah yeah yeah." Quinn sighs. "Look, why don't you join some friends and I and go out for a drink?" He asks as the students work and listen.
"I don't drink. If you want to invite me out anywhere, try something I'll actually enjoy. Besides, between tutoring, and my series, I wouldn't have time to relax anyways." I inform.
"You can't be as perfect as your stupid resume claims you are." Quinn grumbles. I smile.
"Keep telling yourself that." I hear a shuffle of feet, rather, someone running towards the class. A man came in panting.
"Sorry I'm late, my car broke down an- oh, hi Misaki." Standing at the door was Kuro.
"Honestly. You're the new student, talk about coincidence. Sit next to Kyle over there. The assignment is picking a picture of someone who isn't family or yourself on your phone and drawing them, and without words, try to express the relationship. I'll draw something as an example to show to the class. Mr Gabriel, can you got fetch me a soda?" I question.
"I am not your errand boy. Dr Pepper, right?" He smiles as he takes a five from my hand.
"Exactly." He leaves.
"Why are you so friendly with Mr. Gabriel?" My star student, Parker asked.
"Hmm? He's a former student I tutored, he's my assistant because he liked my artwork. He's dating my best friend." I inform.
"Rene? The woman who comes in occasionally?" Parker asks.
"That's right. Anyways, I'm going to start my drawing, you better do the same." The room was emerged in silence for ten minutes as we worked. Quinn came back and placed the drink down, he had a drink of his own and I didn't expect any change. He looked at my drawing.
"And here I thought that the person you would draw would be someone pleasant. Yeesh." I finish up with the color and get up.
"Here's an example. I want you to guess the relationship I have with this woman just from this picture alone." I turn the picture I drew towards them, a picture Of Stacy. Her hair was pulled into a to tight blonde ponytail and her green eyes were heavily surrounded by makeup with caked cheeks and a smirk.
"Nothing pleasant." Kuro comments.
"Someone you don't like." Parker comments.
"An ex?" Someone guesses.
"Nope, just a bitch who tries to weasel money from nice people. But yes, not anyone I like. Who did you guys draw?" I question. I looked at Parkersburg first. His was a drawing of someone he admired. He drew me, using the picture he took when we first met. Admiration was obvious. Again, he was best in my class for a reason. I went to each and every drawing. They were all pretty decent, and then I got to Kuro's. The minute I laid eyes on it, I was entranced. I stared at the photo and then at him.
"Looks like we have a new prodigy in the class. Kuro, I'll have to ask you to stay after class." I hand the drawing back and he nods.
"Is his art really that good?" Parker questions.
"It definitely is something I've never seen before."
