Entanglement: Todoroki x Reader

Requested by LoveComics124 for finding the Runaway by Galantis reference in Twenty: Nighteye x Reader.
Also, I’m doing a little shout out for GoKotoha So, as some of you may know, I rarely request anything from anyone because I know how time consuming and stressful they can be especially when you’re writing them for absolutely nothing in return. This girl took one of my requests and wrote it so quickly and with so much quality I’m impressed. I’m very thankful for how nice she is so please take a second out of your day and give her a follow or check out her book.

Your nimble fingers fumbled around with the leather straps and bronze buckles of the newest addition to your arsenal. Even with curiosity playing the biggest factor here, You’re not quite sure what this support item’s purpose is just yet. It held the appearance of a small chrome blaster of sorts strapped to your forearm. Your strained eyes did what they were known best and that was to glare at the girl with the cheesiest smile and bubblegum pink hair before thrusting your arm into her direction. “I can’t freaking put it on alright!” Your voice uttered in defeat.

“Oh,” Mei immediately stole her ‘baby’ away from you like a protective mother only to begin ripping the innocent item into a million pieces on the spot. It did absolutely nothing wrong to her! Your terrified eyes watched in horror to the sight as her hard work went to naught. That’s what you thought at least, or, until she began whipping out screws, industrial strength glue and rolls of black leather. Before you knew it, your requested support item looked like something totally different yet better than before. “Now it should be easier to put on my baby!!!” The young inventor exclaimed as she effortlessly strapped the baby to your arm in two seconds flat. Velcro, when duct tape isn’t available, it’s a man’s best friend.

You admired her handy work as it was a beautiful invention indeed. Now, the big question: “What exactly is this? I asked for something to help me get information from someone without engaging with them, like a long distance hearing aid or something. Not a… Gun?” Seriously, what is this thing? With your quirk, you’re specially suited for spy work and low profile jobs not hand to hand combat. Actually, now that you’re thinking about it, maybe a gun isn’t all that bad of an idea.

“Allow me to bestow love upon my precious baby!” Mei’s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree as anything to do with tinkering made her heart sing with delight. “This baby can ‘kick’ someone out of their body just long enough for you to jump into their head and get the information you need. Just make sure your body is in a safe place before you use it.”

That’s concerning. “What happens if I don’t?”

“You’re abandoning your body for another. It’s practically a corpse.”

All this talk about what happens to what and you’re missing the big picture. “This thing!?” you gasped and awed at how high tech this thing came off to be. Abandoning bodies, overrides? “I can override someone’s mind and enter it myself?” Has a feat like that ever been achieved before? Is such a thing even possible? She better not be joking around here.

“Basically,” the girl hummed. “You can take over their body and go about your day as them if you really wanted to.”

“I can!?” You gasped once again. Mei made something so overwhelmingly powerful? Imagine if a villain got their hands on this thing. The hero society would be toast for sure.

“Yupitty do dah! Shoot the target first, wait at least thirty seconds for their consciousness to weaken enough then shoot yourself! The rest is history!” Mei left the conversation as is and went back to her working bench only for one of the head workers of the support department to approach you with concern.

The man took your wrist into his grasp and looked over the new item of yours. “Test this thing out before you go out into the field with it. Mei claims she had, but we don’t trust her. We would… But we’re scared to death of trying that thing out. I’m sure you can understand why,” Let’s see… A device that allows you to take over another’s body. Yeah, anybody would be scared of that thing.

“I’ll test it out.” You began to puff out your cheeks. Isn’t the Support Course’s job is to test out inventions they put out?

A great chunk of the day was spent on a wild goose chase in search for someone who’d be willing to try out the new support item. Much to your dismay, just about everyone was against the idea almost as much as Mei’s coworkers. The only person that was fine with the idea was, well, Shoto Todoroki, your boyfriend. Shoto had only one reason why he’s okay with testing it out and it’s because he’s your boyfriend. Sadly, he flat out admitted he’d decline if you weren’t meaning even Shoto isn’t very keen on testing out the support item. Which says a lot since Shoto is fine with just about anything being the most ‘go with the flow’ person in the world. The most surprising being that time Midoriya walked up to him and said “I’m raiding a villain hideout, wanna come?” Guess who was there in a heartbeat.

You stood outside, about five feet away from your lover. You aimed your entire arm at the two toned boy in question. He sort of just stood there, deep in thought as he awaited your attack. “Before you do this,” Shoto spoke up in a knick of time as your thumb was just a split second away from pulling the trigger. “What does this thing do again?”

Your head dropped dramatically to hang loosely from your shoulders. “You already forgot?”

“I don’t understand the point of this thing…”

You began to pick yourself up. “You know how I’m doing work studies under a few pros right now because of a big case?” Shoto didn’t respond. This was the first time you’ve ever mentioned the subject to him however so what’s the point in asking? Might as well explain it to him. “Hawks, Eraser Head and Edgeshot. We’re all working on a low profile mission to exploit the League. Hawks already has an informant, but he isn’t very cooperative and we need to get our info through other means-”

“And what does this have to do with everything?” Shoto interrupted you.

“I’m getting there!!!” You snapped.

“Okay,” Shoto patiently waited for you to finish.

“Long story short… The other means I was talking about was this,” You showed off the gadget once again gun and all. “It lets me override someone’s body temporarily. I’ll have access to all their thoughts and memories and If I really wanted to, I can control their body too like a body swap. That’s where you come in! Hatsume never tested this thing out.”

Shoto’s eyes began to squint. “Since when was I a guinea pig?”

“My god!!!” You growled. “You agreed to all this earlier and suddenly NOW you have a problem with all this!?” Sometimes he never makes any sense.

“I don’t have a problem,” Shoto admits. “I didn’t understand you the first time around.”

Your hands began to bury themselves within your hair. “You’re fucking contradicting yourself!!!”

“Chill out…” Shoto suggested. “Why are you so stressed?”

“Because of this mission Shoto…” You growled.

“Sorry,” Shoto just figured out how badly he was making the conversation circle its own self and resumed his position five feet away. “Let’s do this then.”

“Yes… Let’s get this over with,” eager to finish what was never even started in the first place. You shot at Shoto without taking any time to aim besides a guesstimate point of the arm and pulling the trigger. A small disc like bullet of sorts shot out from your gun and nailed Shoto in the throat. The boy hissed, rubbing his neck before his eyes glossed over into a lifeless trance and hands to fall limp at his sides. Freaky, that’s all you had to say. Shoto is a soulless husk right now and you’re about to jump into it. Following Mei’s instructions, all you had to do now is shoot yourself in which you did. That bullet embedded itself into your forearm where an eerie electric pulse ravaged your body and everything faded to black. It was an out of body experience as your soul fled from one body to the other like a ghost as it made home within Shoto’s empty husk. Everything paused, no sound, no sight, nothing. Then, your face began to twitch, eyelids fought to rise, and light entered your vision once more.

To say everything felt weird was an understatement. You felt oddly cold, yet also warm like your body temperature was struggling to come to a compromise. Besides that, everything was the same. “It didn’t work…” You choked out only to gasp and claw at your throat. Why do I sound like a guy? Your large foreign hands began to shake. These aren’t my hands…

“(Y/n)?” You finally heard your voice, except it wasn’t you speaking. Your eyes followed the source of the voice and there your body stood, five feet away, terrified as ever. “Why am I looking at myself?” Your body asked of… Yourself? Are you even yourself or Shoto right now? Is there even a ‘me’ in this equation anymore?

Realization quickly sat in. “I was under the impression that I could choose whether to swap minds or bodies… Apparently not,” no… This was a full blown body swap. Shoto is in your body while you’re in his. Upon further realization, your memories began to overlap with that of Shoto’s. His multitude of knowledge and memories were flooding into your head, like downloading a file upon the internet, to the point you began to wonder which memories were yours and which was his. Like… What’s your parents names? Rei and Enji were names that were sticking out like sore thumbs but neither of them sounded correct either yet no other names came to mind. Everything was all so overwhelming, the back of your skull was beginning to throb. “Oh god I’m having an identity crisis…” You began to sob as a migraine was moving in.

The real Shoto, trapped in the compounds of your body, approached you carefully in the most sluggish of walks. He’s not used to this new body. Shoto laid his now small and delicate hand over your back. “Can you just shoot me again and fix this?” The boy, or rather girl, more asked than suggested. “No offense but… I don’t like this.”

“I don’t either…” You lifted your head with tears streaming down your face. Shoto shied back as it was trippy to watch his physical body cry, and not a pretty crier at that. “You have the gun Shoto. Just shoot me, then yourself, we’ll swap back.”

“Okay…” Shoto fumbled around with the arm that held the gadget. As if all strength was stolen from him, he couldn’t hold up his arm. So, he managed with what he could. Shoto pressed the gun to his physical body otherwise occupied by you, pulled the trigger, and it fell limp. Shoto progressed to pull the trigger on himself and he too fell limp except… Neither of you woke up until days later in the nurse’s office.

“I’m supposed to believe that the two of you switched bodies?” Mr. Aizawa stood there questioning everything he knew as two of his students newly awoke from their three day slumbers in the nurse’s office. His female student was as calm as ever while the male was a jittery mess. While it is true that their energy levels have flip flopped, Aizawa is determined that this is all one big prank.

“Ask the Support Department what happened! They gave me a faulty support item!” You exclaimed.

Shoto watched as your face continued to contort and twitch, “Why is it that you’re having so many problems with my body but I’m just fine?” In fact, you’re still in one of the patient beds while Shoto has been walking about.

“Because…” You began to seethe. “You never show emotion so it looks weird on your body when I try to use them.”

“Fair enough…” How else was Shoto supposed to argue?

“Okay I believe you both,” even Aizawa couldn’t stand to watch you make Shoto’s face look all creepy and demented. “I’m gonna go question them personally… Stay put.”

You continued to try and get a hold of this new body. The facial expressions at least. Everything besides a blank and bored expression was painful to make. Shoto was visually disturbed at how much you were struggling. “Quit making my face look weird…” He asked of you. All of the smiling and jaw contorts and more.

You began to rub your jaw, “I kind of can’t help it.”

Shoto heard the hostility in your voice. “Passive aggressive much.”

“You know what… I haven’t been in your body long and I already know that I don’t like it.”

“Well,” Shoto scoffed. “I was gonna say that your body wasn’t all that bad but if you’re gonna play that way-”

“I don’t need your snarkiness right now,” you retaliate. Seriously though, nobody needs his snarkiness right now when everything is pretty bad as it was.

“Might I say the same to you,” Shoto was making the most smug face with your body. He knew how to play in order to get what he wanted. It works most of the time.

“Fine,” yup, your boyfriend won. “I’ll be nice.”

“Thank you Baby,” oh god… That was the cringiest thing you’ve ever seen.

“Please don’t say that when you’re in my body,” you began to wretch. It feels as though you’re flirting with yourself. On top of that, Shoto never refers to you by nickname.

“Am I the only one who isn’t disturbed with the swap?”

Unable to take it, you threw your head back. “Just a minute ago you were disturbed…”

“I’m back…” Mr. Aizawa entered the room stressfully rubbing his eyes. No good news will come of this will it? “I’ll get to the point. Hatsume gave you clear instructions with the support item and all of this could’ve been avoided if only you followed them. Did you not wait at least thirty seconds before trying to swap bodies?” Silence. “You didn’t… Did you?”

You facepalmed, “How am I supposed to know? That was days ago and I’m already having problems remembering stuff as it is.”

“She’s working to reverse the effects of the device. Said something along the lines of taking a few days. Until then, class as normal. Living arrangements… Figure something out!” Aizawa is fed up with his class. Why do all the bad things happen in HIS class. Villain attacks, kidnappings, fights and an endless array of class accidents and on top of it all he doesn’t have the time to be dealing with this since he’s practically raising a daughter he never asked for. When will it all end?

“Back to normal you say…” You sighed.

“I really don’t need your attitude right now Todoroki- I mean (Y/n),” Mr. Aizawa snapped. A comment was something that’d more come out of Shoto’s mouth than yours.

“Shoto’s snarkiness is rubbing off on me,” Why else are you snarky out of nowhere? Even on your more irritable days, you’re never this rude.

Mr. Aizawa snapped his fingers at you, “Get your attitude under control.” He turned to Shoto, “Recovery Girl has been babysitting the two of you for the last few days. Thank her and get back to the dorms. Now get to it!” Mr. Aizawa was gone for good. Luckily, the nurse was sitting on her special doctor’s stool in the corner of the room as peppy as ever with her wrinkly smile.

Shoto wasted no time and bowed down before her. “My apologies for the trouble we caused.”

“You’re both fine and that’s all that matters,” the senior hummed with delight and waved you both off. It was still notable how Shoto had the hang of his body while you still somewhat struggled. With each step, your body was flaring up with cold shockwaves or searing heat. You were extremely hesitant to take the least amount of steps as possible thanks to such. Shoto’s quirk is arguably a blessing and a curse and in your case it was a curse.

Once again, Shoto was glaring at you with expertise within your own body. “What’s wrong now?” He’s about tired of your complaints.

“I can’t control your quirk!” You complained. “Whatever I do on this side or that side activates your quirk in some way. I’m always either freezing or sweating.”

“Don’t think about it…” Shoto directed you. “My quirk self regulates my body temperature unless I’m using it in a fight or something. So,” the boy, or in this case girl, snatched you by the wrist. Blazing waves of heat racked your body. Shoto could feel just how badly his fireside was reacting to his touch through your sensitive fingertips. “Don’t think about my quirk and you should be fine.”

“Not that easy,” you huffed. “I can’t just NOT think about something.” Like an itch, you know it’s there and you want to itch it. Taking your mind off the itch is the only way to cure it. The more you think about it, the more you want to do something about it.

“It’s easy. Just don’t think about it.”

Somehow, your entire left side ignited into an explosion of flames. “YOU’RE NOT HELPING!!!”

“What’s wrong with Todoroki?” Iida adjusted his glasses accordingly to better examine the situation.

“He never raises his voice,” Yaoyorozu hummed with concern.

“Isn’t (Y/n) normally the one to overreact?” Uraraka knew better than anyone.

“Well,” Midoriya awkwardly scratches at his neck. “Anyone’s reactions compared to Todoroki is an overreaction.”

“We’re all missing the big picture here,” Uraraka just realized and everyone shared a glance at her. “They’re back from the nurse!!!”

“I forgot that they were gone for a few days,” Iida chuckled at himself and ran to meet up with the both of you. “Nice to see you both are back! Hope you recovered nicely!” And in that split second, your flames died only to be replaced with large icicles that jutted out from your cheek, shoulder and arm.

“I can’t… What?” Midoriya squinted his eyes.

“You fucking explain,” You threw Shoto at the group. “I need my damn music before I burn the whole place down.”

“We’re all gonna be dead by morning…” Shoto overbearingly sighed.

“I’ve never been this confused in all my life and that’s saying something because Sero and Kaminari have done some of the stupidest things ever since we moved in,” Uraraka clearly couldn’t wrap her head around the situation.

“We swapped bodies and can’t swap back for a few more days,” Shoto bluntly threw the truth into everyone's faces. “We’ve fought more in the last half hour than we have our entire relationship,” for reasons beyond Shoto’s understanding, he had begun to tear up. He knew that he was upset but not enough to cry over it. Was being in your body making him more emotional? “She wants me to help her out but everything I do hurts her feelings. I’m afraid that we’ll break up…” Shoto was full on crying at this point. His definition of crying that is. He stood there, silent, as the tears fell from his eyes. Normally, you’d be a loud cryer who’d hiccup and whimper. Shoto’s chest was beginning to lurch, that’s when the hiccups came out. Your physical body mixed with his mind was hurting him in more ways than one.

“Everything is going to be fine,” Iida pulled Shoto into a warm welcoming embrace. “She’ll calm down eventually.”

“I hate emotions…”

You spent the rest of the day finding distractions and getting used to Shoto’s body. Shoto was right to say the least, the second you aren’t thinking about his quirk, it reverts back to normal and everything feels just fine. You had more problems on your plate however, and it was the same on Shoto’s end. Bathroom situations. You haven’t seen someone’s penis in person yet, and you don’t want to start with Shoto’s in THIS predicament. In respect to him, later would be better like during sex or something. Therefore, when the time came, you’d used the toilet like you always had and refused to look in the basement no matter how tempting it might’ve been. Showering too, you dodged them. Shoto for some odd reason knew exactly how to piss like a girl and wasn’t phased by your feminine parts. Well, in the back of his mind he was. Except, he’s more concerned with taking care of your body than having jack off material down the road. Easy to say you both had completely different mindsets about the body swap and personal hygiene

The next morning came along and finally, Shoto had came across his first problem with your body besides the larger range of emotions. He got up to leave his bedroom for breakfast only for his hand to stick to the door. The palm of his hand was practically glued to the door handle and no matter how hard he pulled and shook the object the limb wouldn’t budge. Shoto began to worry as a bead of sweat dribbled down his temple and skin stretching to show how badly he was fighting this sticky situation. “H-How do I fix this problem?” He grunted in his effort to try and free himself once more.

“What’s with the damn racket!!!” Bakugou’s door whipped open as he watched Shoto’s pathetic struggling. The blonde stomped over to the (h/c) girl and shot heated daggers at him. “It’s way too early to be pulling this damn crap! Why else are you here!? Did you two fuck last night!?” Maybe swapping rooms too would’ve been a smart decision...

“I’m stuck!” Shoto didn’t know what else to do.

“It’s your fucking quirk Einstein,” Bakugou’s sarcastic tone didn’t go over Shoto’s head.

“I’m… Not (Y/n),” Shoto made the mistake of grabbing Bakugou by the forearm. Now, the sleeve to Bakugou’s uniform was stuck to his other hand. “I’m Shoto. Me and (Y/n) swapped bodies. I-I can’t unstick myself.”

“FUCK!!!” Bakugou’s voice shook the entire dormitory. The boys came flooding out from their rooms one after the other questioning the same thing Bakugou had just a moment ago. “Someone go get Icy-Hot and unstick my ass from this bitch!!!”

“(Y/n) isn’t a bitch,” Shoto glared at the blonde.

“Don’t try me,” Bakugou glared back.

Some of the boys left in search of ‘Shoto’ and came back nearly ten minutes later finding ‘him’ in your room. Upon arrival, you couldn’t help but bust your gut in laughter as you saw Shoto and Bakugou in such a pickle together. The boys found this scene to be unsettling as they’ve never seen Shoto’s physical form laugh before.

You pointed at Shoto, struggling to stand as air had difficulty filling your lungs. “I knew this was gonna happen sooner or later!” You cackled again knowing the effects of your quirk, then stopped all together like someone flipped a switch. “Just like you told me yesterday, don’t think about my quirk and you should be just fine.” Payback is a bitch Shoto!

“But I wasn’t about it until this happened,” Shoto didn’t understand.

“Are you stressed or something?” You suggested from personal experience. “Sometimes if I get too much anxiety I stick to everything.” Exam times are the worst. Your fingers will begin to stick to every pen, pencil, paper and textbook. Most of the papers are legible anymore or have large rips on the corners. Textbooks as well, you’ve had to pay to replace a few in the last few months.

“I am…” Shoto admits to his swelling anxiety. Being in your body is making him more suggestible to such an emotion. “I was afraid to see you since we fought so much yesterday.” Was it wrong for Shoto to admit that he feels embarrassed for crying all over Iida? Iida was there to support him, as he feels as though he relied on him too much in the moment.

“I… Awe,” your heart had officially melted. Shoto was anxious because of me. “We did fight a lot yesterday. It was all my fault though and it’s in the past! Just… Just calm down alright? Everything’s fine, I still love you.” Shoto told you straight up that you were complaining too much over silly stupid things and as we he. You’re more to blame since he continuously asked you to stop but never did and took your anger out on everything else.

“I feel better… But I’m still stuck to him,” Shoto glared at Bakugou once again.

“Well… What calms you down?” That’s the only way to fix this problem.

“Kissing you.”

“NOPE!” Both you and Bakugou exclaimed in unison. “Not while we aren’t in our bodies! It’ll be like,” you began to gag. “Kissing ourselves…” Not that you’re against kissing another girl but you aren’t into yourself that way.

“You’re still you on the inside… I don’t care,” Shot began using your girlish charm against you in order to pull those sweet puppy dog eyes on you. He… He really wants this kiss doesn’t he?

You could feel Shoto’s cheeks blaze up a storm in coincidence with your emotions, “I… I guess we can kiss this once.”

“Well,” Shoto motioned you over with his head. “Get over here. It’s not like I can move.”

“I swear I hate you sometimes.”

Bakugou couldn’t agree less. “And I swear I’m gonna fucking murder you both when we’re done here.”

“Whatever,” You claimed and forced your eyes to close and pucker your lips for Shoto to kiss. Quite a scene full of cringe as the bystanders would call it. Shoto brought his lips to yours, they were so soft and warm, for a surprisingly calm and enjoyable kiss. Bakugou’s victory howl had let everyone know that the kiss had solved everyone’s problems. You both pulled back, and you only had one thing to say. “You better have enjoyed that because I’m not kissing you again until we swap back.”

“Do you not love yourself?” Wow Shoto, that question came out of nowhere.

“Don’t ruin the moment,” you asked. “Don’t ruin it.”
