May 5, 1953
Vi rolled over in bed when the shrill ringing of her alarm clock began. 5:30am, right on the button. Early enough to get up and have a decent breakfast, but also look presentable. Except the sunlight drifting past open curtains said it was a little later than 5:30. Even a lot later.
The clock stopped ringing after a slap from the companion in the bed she had forgotten she was with.
"It's not allowed to be morning yet. That's illegal," Buddy mumbled, flopping onto Vi after having reached past her to shut off the alarm.
"It feels later than morning... What time is it?"
"I set the alarm for 6:30, but Ma keeps setting it earlier to try and get me to not be grouchy 'round the breakfast table."
"So what time is it?"
Buddy yawned quietly and reached again to slip his glasses from the side table onto his face. He squinted a moment before undoing his actions and cuddling closer to Vi's chest.
"It's only 6. We've got until breakfast is ready."
It took a moment for the new information to sink into Vi's head. Being half asleep had that effect.
"Buddy, I'm usually up for a half hour by now getting ready. How the hell do you expect me to be able to be ready for school and still have time to eat breakfast?" She tried to wiggle out from underneath him, but the dead weight of a tired boyfriend may have been 1,400lbs instead of 140.
"Simple. Stay 'ere with me instead," he yawned again.
"You have school too."
"So?"
"So you can't graduate if you skip classes."
"Hmm... Graduating or cuddling with the best pair of tits in all of Texas..." He wrapped his arms around her torso tighter. "I think I know which one will make my life more worth living."
Vi couldn't argue with that. This was her happy place, after all. And as far as she knew, it was Buddy's too. Warm cuddles under a blanket together, laying tummy-to-tummy, blocking out the rest of the world except for the two of them.
Of course, eating Ella's warm apple pancakes right before a long day at school sounded like a nice way to start the day as well. The smell was drifting through the house slowly, but once it reached Buddy's bedroom, it wasn't going to dissipate for several hours.
"Your mom is making pancakes..." She whispered, stroking Buddy's back.
"That's just not fair..."
"She's trying to draw us out."
"Does she know you're here?"
"Buddy, I didn't know I was here until you shut off the alarm."
"But my mom is... you know..."
"Psychic?"
"Yeah, that's it."
"Probably best she draw us out of bed instead of coming in here to wake us up," Vi pointed out, shifting her hips against Buddy's to draw attention to their mutual nakedness. The message was quickly received, judging by the quick redness of his cheeks.
"Yeah, that would be best. Wanna borrow a set of my pyjamas until you can get properly dressed?" He offered, letting Vi go from his grip as he sat up and stretched.
"Share them with me?" She smirked. Buddy responded by tossing one of the pillows from the bed at her.
"We made out for almost five hours last night. I don't know how you aren't sick of me yet." A little self-deprecation on Buddy's behalf, but all in good fun. He didn't mean it, and if he did, the two would talk it out until he saw himself as highly as Vi did, and vise versa if need be.
"Never gonna be sick of you, and you know it," she winked, pulling off the covers to join him in the hunt for two sets of pyjamas before slinking down for breakfast.
Although not intentional, both teens entered the kitchen wearing what was basically two colour variations of the same set; a white tank top and slightly differing plaid pants with a drawstring. On someone between Buddy and Vi's heights, they'd be a perfect fit. On them, Buddy was showing ankle and Vi was slipping on the backs of the pant legs. The one similarity was the bed hair and the way their eyes sparkled when they looked at each other.
By the stove, Ella was dropping the last of the batter's worth of her famous apple pancakes onto a tall stack, enough for the four occupants of the house, at least. She'd never quite gotten used to only having one child living at home, and therefore only one child's worth of appetite.
"Glad to see you two sleepyheads up," she greeted, only giving a passing glance to them before looking back to the stove top. Just enough to acknowledge their presence.
"Glad to be up, Ma," Buddy yawned, wrapping an arm around Vi to direct her to the table. Though having slept in for half an hour, she had still only been awake for about five minutes and lacking any sort of energy-supplying nutrients to keep her awake. As a result, the two were side-cuddling at the table, hardly even noticing when breakfast was served.
Ella had known for a while that her youngest son could sometimes get handsy with Vi. Sometimes even a little more than handsy. He hid it very well, but there were just some things a mother knew intuitively. A discarded condom wrapper was an excellent tip. A left-behind bra stashed away in his closet was another. The clue she was using as they ate was the splotch of little purple and red marks that lined Vi's collarbone, as well as the matching ones on Buddy's neck. She silently prayed hard that it was just a rash they had spread to each other from sleeping in the same bed more often than not. No such luck. Not with two teens who were absolutely crazy about each other.
The side cuddles were morphing into something much closer. Almost front cuddles. They looked completely oblivious to the world around them. Enough so that they drew each other closer and closer, eventually having their mouths rest right where the little purple marks were glaring at her.
She put down her utensils and clasped her hands, resting her chin on them as she watched. Eventually they'd separate and blush, but for the time being, she'd watch the show of tired pre-marital intimacy with a heavily judging raised eyebrow.
