Percy and I arrived in fourth period history and took our seats right next to each other just as the bell rang. I guess I should explain the whole same classes and lockers right next to each other, and seats side by side... Shouldn't I?
Well, we came back from the quest, Percy and I would sometimes breakdown. Sometimes it was words, sometimes it was images that reminded us of something that would trigger the breakdown, or sometimes, they were just random. No trigger, they just happened. And by breakdown, I mean mental breakdown. We'd freeze and freak out, caught in a flashback. We would cry and scream and shake and mutter things and yell things. Most of the time, they made no sense to the other people who witnessed the breakdowns, but the things we said, they were always recognized by the other and we could figure out what the flashback was.
Though, doing that was sometimes dangerous. Because it usually resulted in the other slipping into a flashback as well.
Anyway, we came back and kept having these mental breakdowns. So Chiron called Apollo who diagnosed us with severe PTSD. Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder. It was usually easier to control when around each other, and it was very rare that we had them when at school, because we were always close to each other and there weren't many things that triggered the flashbacks here. But there was one time, when a kid had been trying to get me to kiss him, but Percy had stepped up in front of me. Percy had had a mental breakdown because of what the kid said.
"Hey, pretty thing! Why don't you give me a kiss hm? I've got a math test next period and I could use a good luck kiss!" The boy said from behind me. I turned and Percy turned with me.
"Are you talking to me?" I asked incredulously, Percy was sneering beside me but the jock didn't seem to notice him beside me with his hand tightly clutching my own.
"Yeah, I'm talking to you, babe. Who else would I be talking to?" The jock stepped forward and tried to grab me to pull me into a kiss, but Percy growled beside me. I squeezed his hand and scooted closer to his side. The jock looked up at my Seaweed Brain. "And just who are you? Her big brother? Her cousin? Her best friend?" Percy's scowl deepened and the jock just huffed.
"No actually. I'm her best friend who just also happens to be her boyfriend." Percy said. The jock just laughed.
"Yeah right," He snorted. "Just kiss me, babe, and leave this dumbass."
"He actually is my boyfriend you son of a bitch and a very protective one. If you try to make me do anything, I hope for your sake that Percy takes it easy on you. I also hope for your sake that you know what not to do and if you don't, then I hope you know how to run faster that the blink of an eye." I said matter-of-factly. Actually, that was a fact.
"I'll do whatever the hell I want to. This piece of shit can't do anything to stop me." The jock pointed a thumb at Percy, who had begun to breath irregularly. He seemed to struggle with himself for a moment, but then his eyes cleared and fixed the jock with a deathly glare.
"You think you can do whatever the hell you want? You think you can do whatever the hell you want? Well, I got news for you. I'm not useless. I can fight, way better than you. I can move faster than you would be able to process. And I am much stronger than you. If you try to force Annabeth to do anything, you will regret it." Percy stepped in front of me and pushed me behind him.
Despite my boyfriend's scary look, the jock didn't back down. "Really? You think so?" The jock took a closer look at us. "Hey, aren't you guys the new kids with sever PTSD?" He asked. Percy and I nodded. I hoped that he would leave us alone now. Before he triggered something. But he just smiled evilly. "I don't think that you really have PTSD. I think it's just a scam to try and get it all your way." He smeared. I stared back in shock, but Percy only got angrier.
"You think having mental breakdowns and getting hardly any sleep at night because we are haunted by nightmares is a scam? You think that seeing even the most normal thing and losing our minds because it reminds us of what happened is a scam? You think that even though my whole life has been one tragedy after another I don't have PTSD? Are you saying that my whole life is a lie?" Percy demanded.
"Yeah. I do. Because you're a worthless piece of shit. You're useless and you are nothing. You are useless, and you are nothing, punk." Percy's eyes widened and I gasped. Not now! Not now!
"Percy! Percy, look at me!" He had started to shake and his eyes were wide with fear, the blood draining from his face turning almost as white as a sheet. I whipped in front of him, grabbed his shoulders and tried to get him to look at me. "Percy, look at me! Please! It's not real! He's gone! Please, fight it! Percy, come back to me! Come back to me, Seaweed Brain! Fight it! You're stronger than this! Percy, please!" I begged.
My boyfriend sank to his knees and tears ran down his face as his eyes filled with fear. I sank down with him. "No... No, please! Don't! Don't hurt her! I... I won't say anything! Please! Please leave her out of this! Please don't hurt me anymore!" Percy started to cry. Huge, heaving sobs wracking his body. He was shaking and his eyes were wild with fear, darting all around the hallway.
"Percy, please!" I begged, looking desperately at him, pleading with him to meet my eyes, to calm down and pull away from the past. I turned to the jock who was staring at us in shock. "Look what you've done! Look what you've done!" I shouted, starting to cry myself. I turned back to Percy.
"Please, Perce! Look at me!" I had released my grip on his shoulders when I turned around to yell at the jock. "Percy, please..." I pleaded, reaching up a hand and placing it gently on his cheek. He flinched back, scrambling to get away.
"No! Don't! Don't touch me! Please! Don't touch me!" Percy sobbed and screwed his eyes shut. He threw his arms around his head. He curled into himself, trying to look as small as possible and hide himself from a threat that was no longer there.
"Someone get the nurse! Or the principle! Someone get help!" I cried. I heard retreating footsteps racing down the hall, and a voice calling for help.
"Don't come any closer! Please don't hurt me! Don't touch me! Please!" Percy had backed himself up so far, that his back was pressed against the other wall, his eyes had opened again and their beautiful sea-green depths were still filled with fear and had a faraway look, like he was looking at something else.
"Percy, please!"
It took forever to calm him down because he wouldn't let anyone near him. But I was finally able to calm him down. And it's fair to say that any doubts the freshman jock had about Percy and I having PTSD were gone.
Anyway, Percy and I walked into History and sat down just as the bell rang. Percy took his notebook and a pencil out of his desk then slipped it into his desk. I did the same.
"Okay, class. Today we are going to begin our Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome studies." Our teacher, Ms. Ivy said happily. Percy and I looked at each other, smirking. This was going to be easy. We knew all about Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. We know the gods, we are Greek and we have Roman friends. And, well, you all know just how involved we are with the Ancient Greek and Roman worlds.
"Can anyone tell me anything about the Greek Gods?" Ms. Ivy asked. Percy's hand shot up in the air, looking at me with a smirk. Ms. Ivy stared at him in shock, as well as most of the class. Percy never raised his hand. He never knew anything. "Y-Yes, Percy?" Ms. Ivy stammered.
"Well, there are twelve Olympians on the Olympic council. Zeus, the king of the gods, lord of the skies. His wife, Hera, queen of the gods and the goddess of family and marriage. Zeus's brother, Poseidon, lord of the sea, father of horses, the earth-shaker. Hephaestus, the lord of fire and blacksmiths. Athena, goddess of wisdom and warfare. Ares, the god of war. Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. Artemis, goddess of the hunt and the moon. Artemis's brother, Apollo, god of the sun, music, archery, and many other things. Hermes, god of travelers, communication, guide to spirits of the dead, and messenger of the gods. Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. And Dionysus, god of wine and revelry. There is also Hypnos, god of sleep and dreams. Iris, goddess of the rainbow. Hades, Zeus's and Poseidon's brother, god of the underworld. Thanatos, god of death. Nike, goddess of strength, speed, and victory. Tyche, the goddess of good luck. Hebe, goddess of youth. Keto, goddess of sea monsters and large sea creatures. Khione, goddess of snow. Nemesis, goddess of revenge. Persephone, Hades' wife, queen of the underworld. Aeolus, god of all winds. Notus, god of the South Wind. Boreas, god of the North Wind. Eros, god of love. Eris, goddess of strife. Geras, god of old age. Hecate, goddess of magic and crossroads, controller of the Mist. Herma, goddess of day. Leto, goddess of motherhood. There's the three Fates. Gaea, the earth. Tartarus, husband of Gaea, spirit of the pit. The other primordials like Chaos, Night, and Uranus. There are many more, far too many to name here today. But those are some of them."
The whole class stared at my boyfriend in shock. But I just smiled, I was proud of him. He had remembered all that! Ms. Ivy's mouth hung open wide, along with the mouths of most of our classmates. "W-well, Percy! You certainly know a lot about the Greek gods."
"I know all about Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. I could name all of the gods' roman forms as well. Such as Zeus's being Jupiter, Poseidon's being Neptune, Hades' being Pluto, Demeter's being Ceres, Artemis's being Diana, Athena's being Minerva, Dionysus's being Bacchus, Nike's being Victoria, Ares is Mars, Aphrodite's is Venus, Hera's is Juno, Hephaestus's is Vulcan, Hermes's is Mercury, Nemesis is Invidia, Persephone's is Proserpine, Thanatos is Letus, Tyche is Fortuna, Hebe's is Juventas, Iris is Iris, Apollo is Apollo, Gaea is Terra, and, well, you get the idea."
Percy could have gone on forever naming the gods and talking about Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, but just then, the bell rang! He had used up the whole period talking about the Greek and Roman gods.
"Come on, Perce, let's get to our next class."
