27: Jealous dinner

"No!...no! This one's terrible." Tamara grumbled while flinging my clothes behind her. I sat lazily on my bed lacquering my nails and watching her.

Why should I bother choosing my outfit when I have Tamara to do that?

She pulled out another dress and stared at it for a minute before turning to me and holding the fabric in front of her.

"No!" she flung the dress away and it landed on my face. With a scowl on my face, I threw it back at her. I looked around my room which Tamera had turned into a sea of clothes.

"Tam, you're going to clean up my room" I placed the lacquer on my bed and stood up. As I walked towards my window to pull the curtains together, I almost tripped over one of my clothes. I had to clutch the edge of my bedside table for support.

"I've found it." She pulled out a yellow flowery dress and beamed at her discovery.

Today was the day I had to go over to Peter's family's house for dinner. As usual, Tamara forced herself into my room and busied herself with selecting an appropriate dress for me.

I had no choice but to let her do her job, because she would make my life a living hell if I didn't.

Humming a song, I walked past her to my bathroom and stripped out of my clothes before stepping under the shower which I turned on and allowed the water coursing down my body to soothe my stressed nerves.

I was really nervous about my dinner with the Ross family. Even though I had visited them once and they welcomed me like they had known me for a very long time, I was still anxious about having dinner with my boyfriend's family, coupled with the fact that Philip would be there too.

The door to my room opened and closed again signifying that Tamara had left. I only hoped she didn't leave along with anything important.

Another perk of having Tamara as my sister. Her favourite trick was kidnapping random things from my room and I wouldn't know what she took till I needed it.

I dried my body with a towel pulled out from above my head. I stepped into my room and began preparing for the evening. Peter said he'll pick me up by 7:00p.m so I had enough time to get ready.

I flung the towel away and pulled on my lacy bra and panties. Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I carefully slid into the flowery dress Tamara had chosen for me. I brushed my hair and packed it up in a ponytail giving me a school girl appearance.

I suddenly remembered Alice who I hadn't seen the last time I visited her family. I was hoping to see her today. Adeline told me it was a general family dinner and everyone would be present.

The door to my room was flung open and Tam sashayed in bearing her makeup kit in her hands. I eyed her warily as she dumped the large box on my bed.

"Get that thing off my bed, I just changed the sheets." I complained.

My sister always invented new ways to annoy me, she came up with new ideas everyday. If she wasn't forcing me to dress up in her ' carefully selected clothes ', she'd be trying to fight over little things with me.

She ignored me and pulled out a red lipstick, an eye shadow case, a concealer and some other odd looking things. When she has gathered what she needed, she approached me like the way a cat would stalk its prey.

"Get those things away from me!" I yelled and scrambled away from her.

"Come on, your face is so bare, I hate it." She smiled and stopped walking in my direction.

"It's my face and I like it the way it is."

"Well, I don't."

"Your loss." I stuck out a tongue at her and she frowned at me, displeased that I didn't allow her have her way.

I stared at the mirror for a while checking if my dress was appropriately balanced on my body, before grabbing a little bag and my phone.

"Goodbye dear sister." I waved to my sister who only huffed as I made for the door.

My phone rang and Peter's name came on the screen.

"Hey, girlfriend." His voice did so much in relaxing my nerves.

"I'm heading out now, where are you?" I made my way down the stairs, skipping a step at intervals. I got to the main door and wrapped my fingers around the handle of the front door.

"Right here."

As I opened the door, I came face to face with a dashingly handsome Peter who was grinning from ear to ear like a loon.

His eyes briefly went round my body and approved my outfit before he slipped his hand around my waist and drew me towards him. My heart beat increased as I noticed the intimate position we were in. It wasn't like he hasn't been so close like he is now, it's just that, it felt different and really good.

He placed a light kiss on my lips and moved his lips to my forehead and planted another kiss there.

"How's my outfit?" I asked, a little bit flustered as he still held me close to his chest.

"It's simple and I like it. You know you don't to overwork yourself in trying to get a perfect look, you're beautiful the way you are." He whispered.

My cheeks warmed up as my eyes found their way to his. He had this glint in his eyes and I wondered why.

"What did you find?" He whispered again into my ear. I trembled as his lips deliberately brushed my ear lobe, I cradled his neck in my hands and leaned further against him. He gently breathed against my neck and sent a fresh set of signals down my spine.

"I...I..." A stutter was the only sound my mouth let out as his breath continued caressing my neck.

Before I could blink, he pulled away and let out a sigh.

"We need to go or we'll be late." He planted one last kiss on my lips and led me to his car.

After starting the engine, he turned to stare in my direction where I sat trying to conceal my disappointment.

Without warning, he leaned over and gave me another lingering kiss which spanned from seconds to minutes and would probably have continued if his hand hadn't slipped under my dress and rested on my naked skin.

"Sorry." Peter muttered an apology when he noticed that I froze in my seat, and a reddish tinge appeared on his cheeks. He looked adorable whenever he blushed. I reached out to his cheeks to pinch them but he skillfully tilted his head away from my reach. I gave him a cheesy grin as he drove his car away from my neighborhood.

While Peter drove, I stared out of the window and watched everything go by in a blur, I twiddled my fingers nervously while Peter kept his eyes on the road.

I felt his hand on my lap and my eyes broke away from the window.

"You look nervous, don't be, you'll do just fine." He assured me and laced our fingers together. I smiled as I looked down at our interlocked fingers which made me feel totally at ease.

When we arrived at his parent's house, Peter guided me into the house after locking his car.

The entire place was illuminated perfectly, the chandeliers hanging from above in the hallway where the paintings were gave the place a different look.

Adeline approached us and her lips parted in a smile that looked just like Peter's.

"I'm glad you could make it, Florence." She hugged me and patted my back affectionately.

"I'm glad too." I replied as she released me from her arms. She surveyed my body and her eyes lit up.

"I love your dress, the flowers make me love it more."

Peter huffed beside me and I nudged him slightly.

Maybe he didn't know, but I fell in love with his mother when I first saw her. She was so cheerful, had this motherly warmth radiating from her and she treated me the same way she does to her family.

"Thank you, lilies are my favorite." I responded and brushed down my gown which was close to flying up due to the cool evening breeze.

She placed a hand to her chest dramatically.

"I'm glad we share something in common."

I laughed and she seized my hand and walked towards a door with me. She pushed it open and I gasped at the glorious sight before me.

Different species of flowers were everywhere in the large room, even the species I never knew existed. My eyes widened as I gawked shamelessly at the different flowers.

"Come, let's go, dinner is served." Adeline spoke up, dragging me out of my daze. I nodded and followed her out of the room which was detached from the main house. I glanced back at Peter who gave me an encouraging nod while an almost undetectable smile formed on his lips.

Alice emerged from another room and rushed towards us. She hugged me tightly and looked me over in wonder.

"Florence! I've missed you so much." She laughed and embraced me again, gently patting my back.

"Save your reunion for later." Adeline gently pried us apart. Alice rolled her eyes and moved close to Peter whose eyes were far away from us. She nudged him playfully and he trembled a little bit as his attention returned to us.

We all moved to the dining room table where exotic dishes were in display.

"Peter told me about you being a vegetarian, so I got the chef to whip up a vegetarian-friendly food for you to choose from." Adeline said, pulling out a chair.

"That's so kind of you, thanks" I beamed at her and sat in a the chair Peter pulled out for me.

"Aww, isn't that sweet, mom?" Alice cooed, winking at me. She sat at the other side of the table beside her mom.

Her mom ignored her, flicking her eyes to the door where her husband, Gabriel walked in through alongside Philip and Maya who was dressed to kill.

Did she not know the difference between a family dinner and a frat party?

Inwardly I wondered where the sweet lady I met back at Hawaii was, the Maya walking towards us with her boyfriend was a totally different Maya.

I sighed as they exchanged pleasantries with every one at the table including me. Alice didn't seem to like her, Adeline either.

Gabriel, after kissing his wife's cheek, sat at the head of table and Philip sat opposite me, beside Alice while Maya sat next to Peter.

I looked up from my food on the table before me and found Philip's eyes on me. I gave him a tight smile which he didn't return.

What an ass.

"I'm so glad you all could be here tonight and I'm especially glad Florence could join us too, let's eat then."

Gabriel smiled at me and proceeded to bless the food, after blessing the food, we commenced eating.

Philip gave me a look as I shoved a full spoon of rice into my mouth. Looking away from him, I shifted my attention to Peter who placed his left hand on my thigh. My attention was again transferred to Phillip who dropped his fork and looked at me intensely. Unable to understand why he looked at me like that, I smiled shyly at him and continued eating my food.

The sound of a chair scraping backwards caught my attention. I looked up to see Philip walking briskly out through the door.

Everyone at the table exchanged looks. Alice's eyes strayed to mine and she shrugged.

What did I do?
