Chapter 11: Combat Training - Part 2
------Author's Note------
I made a little drawing of what I imagine Koto looking like. I'm not great at drawing the bottom half of people's faces, so it's just the top half. I'm pretty proud of it, though. Hope you are enjoying the story! I would love to see some art of Koto if any of you want to make some!

All Might commends all of us as we had a good strategy and didn't compromise the structure of the building. However, he commented on the fact that the music would have alerted other heros in the area to our location, so he had to dock points because of that, but we earned them back because it worked to hold off Shoji and Todoroki.
"We could hear that music all the way from here!" Red exclaims, coming over to me before his battle. "It was so cool! The name's Kirishima by the way. Good job out there." He smiles with his pointed teeth and heads out to his battle.
Maybe he's not as annoying as I thought he was. He should still put on a shirt, though.
Ojiro and I sit on the floor together in the back of the room, going over what happened while the next teams get ready.
"I couldn't really do much when I got stuck to the floor," the tail boy says, deflated. "At least there was music to listen to. I'm positive that's the reason they took so long to find us," he adds pensively. "Good work with that. I hope you didn't tire yourself out too much."
I shake my head.
"Was that really you talking?"
I write on my arm band, "No, I just illused a voice right next to the microphone." He nods. "So what happened when Todoroki got there?"
Ojiro's face breaks out into a grin. "Well, I'm sure he was trying to make a cool entrance, but as soon as he approached the door, WHAM! He got hit right in the jaw and flew back." He chuckles a bit to himself at the memory. "Then, he learned where the point was and just crouched underneath it to get into the room. I was going to try to fight, but he said we were playing in two different leagues and that I could try to fight him if I wanted to, but it wouldn't be so easy without any skin on my feet."
My eyes widen in shock at the boy's words. "Wow, that's a bit much," I write.
"Well, he was right. I would've completely destroyed my feet if I had tried fighting him. I just can't believe he has two quirks! How lucky!"
"Who are we talking about?" Todoroki's cool voice says from behind me. Ojiro jumps and looks up at the boy, trying to hide his intimidation.
"Oh! We were just talking about the fight," Ojiro says, giving a wary smile.
"Hmph," I look up to see the boy's grey eye glancing between us. "Good job out there. The music made it difficult, but it didn't stop us. I'm sure that would've been a different story if you had been in the room with the weapon."
We regard him pensively. Is he trying to compliment us, help us, or insult us?
"The next match is starting. We should examine our classmates' strategies." And with that, he turns around and returns to the group.
...Alright then, I think, standing up and walking over as well. Ojiro follows as the third match begins. Kirishima and Thing 3 with the weird elbows are the villains. Tape comes out of the kid's large elbows and surrounds the weapon. That's what they're for. Kirishma's hands harden to stone as the two prepare to be attacked. Tsu approaches in the darkness along with Tokoyami, the hero team. From the bird guy's dark cloak appear two giant talons, made entirely of shadow. The teams stare each other down and prepare for the fight.
We continue watching and examining all our classmates' quirks. Yaoyorozu produces metal bars from her chest, sealing off the doors to their room. It appears she can make whatever she wants just sprout from her body. Her teammate, the purple midget, only seems interested in looking up her skirt and doesn't actually use his quirk during the battle.
Hagakure hides on one end of the building as the lightning boy creates electricity (who would've guessed?) to attack the enemy from below. She then goes up the stairs to capture the weapon.
Sato eats a bunch of sugar and becomes even stronger than usual, his muscles bulging through his yellow suit. Koda speaks to some birds outside and they fly in, pecking at the enemy. Aoyama, struts around, ready to use his naval laser at a moment's notice. Ashido spews acid out of her feet to slide on and move around quickly, while shooting it out of her hands to attack.
At the end of the day, we meet by the exit, gathering in front of All Might as he sends us away with his parting words. "That's a wrap!! Super work! You really stepped up to the plate and we didn't have any major injuries except for Midoriya. You should be proud! Excellent first day of training, all around!"
Tsu speaks up, "It's nice to hear some encouraging words after our homeroom class."
We all shudder from the memory of Aizawa.
"Mr. Aizawa was kind of a buzzkill."
"I am happy to bring such staggering positivity to my Alma Mater!" He shouts, raising his arms in glee. "That's all for now, folks. I should go and check on young Midoriya's progress. Now, watch how a pro exits! Like he's got somewhere to be!" And with that, he bolts through the exit tunnel, wind whipping behind him.
Students exclaim with excitement their praises of our teacher as we walk back to the changing rooms, ready for the day to be over. Sadly, we still have to sit through history and Japanese before they let us go for the day. We wait in the classroom as Aizawa leaves, hoping to catch Midoriya when he comes back for his stuff. Sure enough, around 4 pm, he opens the door and is immediately cornered by people. His costume is singed and torn and he looks tired, but his eyes light up when he sees his whole class waiting for him. Well, the whole class except for Bakugo. He had ignored Kirishma's invitation to stay when he came up with the idea.
"Hey, it's Midoriya!" The redhead says in his gravely voice, smiling wide with his pointed teeth. "Good to see ya back, super! Man, I don't know what you were saying during that match, but you were all fired up, huh?!?"
"I can't believe you held your own against Bakugo!" Chimed in Thing 3. "He's super strong!"
"You did a great job dodging!!!" Ashido squealed.
"You guys really turned up in the first match, so none of us held back in our rounds either!" Sato says, clenching his fist.
Aoyama leans over in his chair from behind Ashido to speak to Midoriya, "You were far from elegant, but I suppose--"
"Your dodging was like WOOOO!" Ashido hops in front of the boy, cutting him off.
"Hey, I'm Eijiro Kirishima. We've been going over training results while you were in recovery."
"Hi, I'm Hanta Sero," Thing 3 introduces himself.
"More importantly, I'm Yuga Aoyama--"
"I'm Mina Ashido!!!" She jumps in again, cutting him off. "And I just gotta say your dodging was awesome!!"
Jeez this girl is really passionate about dodging.
"Tsuyu Asui," the frog girl steps forward. "But please, call me Tsu."
"Hey, Sato!" The large guy shouts from the back.
Midoriya looks taken aback by all the names. "Umm, hey guys!"
The midget jumps in front of them, screaming "My name's Mineta!!"
They all fight to get words in as Tokoyami sits on his desk next to me. "So noisy," he remarks, closing his eyes.
"TOKOYAMI!!!" Iida's harsh voice yells across the class. He gestures to him, wildly. "STOP USING THAT DESK AS A CHAIR!!! GET OFF OF IT THIS INSTANT!!!"
"You need to relax," Shoji says, putting a hand on his shoulder.
Ojiro smirks as the bespeckled boy falls silent, his mouth agape. "You're carrying a lot of tension."
Iida's shoulders fall and he sighs. "No one understands...I cannot condone actions that disrespect these desks! Not when great men and women, our upperclassmen once used them!"
"Also noisy," Tokoyami remarks.
The door opens and lightning boy walks in with a stack of books. "So, anyway, wanna grab a bite sometime? What kinda stuff you like?"
Ochaco walks in behind him, also carrying a stack of books. "Anything sweet..." she trails off and looks over to where Midoriya stands, his face falling when he sees them together. "Hey! Deku! Why didn't she heal your injuries?" She sprints across the room towards him, still holding the textbooks.
Now it's lightning boy's turn to look disappointed. I swear this girl doesn't know when guys have crushes on her. She's so oblivious.
Midoriya begins talking, but trails off after he notices Bakugo's seat empty. After Ochaco tells him that he already left, the boy sprints out of the room without his things.
"Wait! You forgot your stuff!!" Kirishima yells out the door, but he doesn't appear to be heard. He walks back in, shrugging. "Ah, well. He's gotta come back at some point."
He approaches my desk with a wide smile on his face. "That quirk of yours is really cool! I was meaning to ask you about it, but then we had to go fight!"
I'm taken aback by his words, but write "thanks," on my whiteboard.
"Ey, no problem! So you can really just play songs whenever you want?"
I sigh and write the same thing down as I did at lunch. I should really just write it on paper and carry it around with me. It's too much work to keep writing.
"But those songs were so cool! And they sure did pack a punch! It was so manly!" Is that supposed to be a compliment? "Can you illuse one right now?"
A few other students gather around my desk, excited to see if I'll play a song for them. I look between them, sinking lower into my chair. So many people have never taken this much interest in me. It's kind of just intimidating.
"I'm sure she spent enough energy during class and doesn't want to exhaust herself any more," Todoroki says to my left. I jump at his words and we all look over. He's staring straight ahead as he slings his bag over his shoulder and makes for the door. "We saw Midoriya and he's fine. I'm not waiting around for him to come back. Especially if Bakugo decides to get violent and sends him to Recovery Girl again."
With that, he exits the room, not looking back. We regard the door for a few moments before Ashido, Ochaco, and Tsu walk in. I didn't even notice they were gone. Ochaco searches the room for me. When her eyes land on the students crowded around my desk, she rushes over with a tentative smile.
"Hey guys! What's going on over here?" She asks, coming to a stop by my side.
Kirishima leans up against my desk and addresses her. "Well, I was just wondering if Yamada could play some music for us, but I guess Todoroki was right. You must be pretty tired after what you did out there," he turns towards me with a smile. "Some other day, then?"
I don't know what to say to him. They already know about my quirk and what it can do. There's no need to hide it. I just hate this much attention on me. I purse my lips and nod, not meeting his eyes. What would I even illuse? I'm sure they wouldn't want to listen to any of my Disney songs, but those are some of my favorites.
"Can't wait," he says, giving me a thumbs up before walking away.
"Hey, you know you don't have to if you don't want to," Ochaco sits down next to me with a hand on my arm.
"I know," I sign, placing a hand on hers and giving it a squeeze. "Disney movie marathon this weekend?"
She sighs with a huge smile. "Of course! If these two days are in any way like how the rest of the week will go, we'll certainly need it!"
I smile and pull her in for a hug. "And this is why we're best friends."
"Exactly."
"I really am sorry that I didn't sit with you at lunch. I can sit at your table tomorrow."
"No no, we should be making friends here. I mean, we always sorta kept to ourselves in middle school. Now, these people seem cool and we could actually be friends with them. We'll always have the weekends for it to be just us and Reina. So don't worry about it," she says with a reassuring smile.
I stand and gather my stuff, holding my whiteboard to my chest.
"Where are you going? Aren't you going to wait for Deku to come back?"
"No, it'll be too crowded again when he comes back. I think it's better if I just head out."
"Okay! See you later!" She sends me a closed-eye smile.
"Bye!" I sign before walking out.
"Oh are you heading out?" Mina asks, catching me at the door. I nod. "Be careful! Bakugo's out there and looks like he's about to punch something." With wide eyes, I nod and continue outside.
I stroll through the warming air of spring, taking in the colors of the trees. The branches have freshly burst into color, leaves dancing in the wind and cherry blossoms smiling down at me.
I pull the chain out from my shirt and hold the ring. I will be better, Mom. I promise. I love you and Dad so much. I miss you two every day. You and Grandma. I'm so sorry for everything I did to you. I will be a hero for you.
I look out at the water, the sun glinting off of it and up the hill to the school. Todoroki's figure walks a ways in front of me, probably going to the train station. I debate catching up, but ultimately decide against it. He seems to prefer being alone, much like myself. So we both walk along the road, by ourselves.
I turn my attention towards the left side of the road as I hear heavy, snotty breathing from within the trees. I almost continue along my way, but something stops me in my tracks. If somebody's in trouble, I have a responsibility to help.
I approach the woods cautiously. I have no idea what awaits me in here, but I know I have to at least investigate. Walking around a few trees, I finally see a black shoe from behind a trunk. Whoever is sitting behind the tree sounds to be crying. I step forward, trying to see who it is. Spiky blonde hair comes into my view and I barely stifle my gasp in time.
Bakugo.
I look around, plotting my escape when he raises his arm to wipe his nose on his sleeve. His head turns just barely and he catches sight of me out of the corner of his eye. He practically jumps out of his skin after a double take. Turning his head away, he clears his throat and rasps at me, "fuck off, extra."
How nice. I should just leave, but if he holds this experience against me, he'll turn my life into a living hell. Maybe he just needs a friend here.
"The fuck's wrong? Are your ears broken?!? I SAID TO FUCK OFF!!!" He turns to glare at me. My breath catches as his red eyes stare me down. They appear puffy and strained, the pupils dilated to small dots. I have to look away. Seeing other people's eyes always makes me cry. Especially when they're crying too. I sigh heavily, making a decision. I uncap my marker and begin writing on the whiteboard.
He groans and turns away. "There really must be something wrong with your fucking brain if you can't understand a simple FUCK OFF!!!!!"
I'm gonna regret doing this, but it's the best thing I can think of, I think as I write. I snap my fingers, trying to get Bakugo's attention as I turn the board towards him, but he refuses to turn around.
Here we go, I pull a pack of tissues from my bag and fling it at his head. It bounces off his hair and he jumps up, ready to attack, before realizing it was just tissues. His hands explode in anger.
"I don't need your fucking help, Curly!" He turns away without even looking at the board. I roll my eyes and tap the board. He groans, "whaaaaat?" while turning back.
His eyes drift to the board and he reads my words silently. "Allergies suck this time of year, don't they?" the board reads.
He scoffs and turns away. "Yeah whatever, Mute. Just leave me alone."
I nod even though he can't see and head back to the road. Okay, better not anger him even more. Just wanted to get our story straight.
"Curly!" Bakugo calls after me. I glance over my shoulder at him. "Pick up your fucking trash!" He gestures to the tissue pack on the ground.
I raise my eyebrow at him with a "no you pick it up" sort of glare before turning back around to the road. What if you need them? I mentally taunt.
His profanity follows me to the street and I allow myself a small smile at his anger. As much as he scares me, he sure is fun to tease.
I head home, surprised the explosive blonde doesn't follow to beat me up or anything. Resting on my bed, I finish my homework for the day and fall asleep without even eating dinner.
