Chapter 7: Zombie Highway

One day when I was seven years old, I sat on my bed playing Zombie Highway. It was an awesome game which involved you driving an endless highway and killing many infinite zombies coming. The last level, Infinite Ice, was the best level I've ever played in that game. With a flamethrower, a mini-gun, and infinite supply of ammo, I killed the zombies as if it was a normal thing. I didn't remember my highscore then, but I didn't forget the countless frost giants that tried to bring down my car. I indeed tried desperately to dodge the numerous wrecked vehicles of those who were killed by these zombies. And at that tender age, I decided to call them Hijackers, since they were hungry for the character in the game and were desperate enough to attempt to bring the vehicle down.
That was the main reason why I became suspicious as we passed by the wrecked cars. I knew that something fishy was going on, and before I realised what was about to happen, the creature appeared from nowhere, and what looked like a magnetic attraction fastened it to my car. The impact almost made the car hit a run-downed bus, but thanks to Blue, he got us safely from the impending danger. But still the hijacker was hanging on to my car, and then began to try and pull it down.
I reached my Uzi and taught the creature a lesson. It had showed me its ugly face, and I returned by displaying my uzi and making it headless. It dropped to the floor dead.
Blue heaved a sigh of relief and said," Woah! That was close! And for a second there I thought--".
His words seized as another hijacker slammed itself to the car. This impact was devastating as Blue struggled to regain the car's balance. It was a fat creature, and it made no mistake to reveal its head as the last one did. I fired at its stomach, stunning the creature in order to prevent it from pulling the car down. Still it was unyielding to let go, and it pulled the car with its might. This somehow gave Blue an idea. He sighted a fallen truck and drove near it. The creature was now weak from the bullets it received, and before I reloaded, Blue drove so near the truck that the creature got hit, releasing it from my car.
I knew that this wasn't over yet. More hijackers also fastened themselves to my car. Blue resorted to going near the wrecked cars in order to get them off the vehicle. Most of them proved stubborn as they refused to let go even when they got hit. I had to switch to my SMG, which did the miracle of killing those bastards. It was somehow entertaining to me, reminding me of the good old days when I killed those bastards in the game. However, I couldn't compare that to the fun I was having now. The enormous killings, the countless headshots that followed, and the slamming of hijackers to wrecked vehicles brought smiles on our faces. It was fun but dangerous, exciting but daring, amazing but bloody. My car was stained with their blood, but it didn't matter as long as you have lots of guns, a gun expert, and an amazing driver killing them. Although it felt wrong since they too could be considered humans, but in this game of survival, it was every man to himself, and God help us all. But in this case, having some pals by your side would increase the chances of your survival. And thank God, He gave me Blue.
Blue saw that we reached the endpoint of this Zombie Highway. He was excited, and so was I. Then at that instant, a creature which had been holding on for dear life, got its balance, sprang up to the side of my car, and pulled with all its might. The car almost lost its balance, and knowing that the situation was getting worse, I brought out my Jack Knife and stabbed it right in the neck. The creature jerked and let go, but hanged on to my hands, with its claws piercing my skin. I yelled in pain, but refused to let go of the knife. I pressed it hard in its neck, allowing blood to freely escape from it. It looked like it was about to faint, but then it came to life and tried to bite my hand. But the same thing that happened to Ana happened to this creature; it jerked and immediately disengaged from the knife, allowing itself to fall on the road.
Blue saw my injured hand and immediately brought out the first aid kit.
" You know how to use this buddy?", he asked me.
" Yes friend. Thanks", I answered as I administered the kit to myself.
Blue sighed and continued the driving, while I fixed myself up and rested my back against the passenger's seat. The same questions still hovered over my head. Why wasn't I infected? Why did they fear me? What the hell was really going on? How is it that I can't be affected but others can? Many more questions came, and the only answer they got was to wait until I reached my father, whom I believed had the answers to this Mutation Outbreak. And so I sighed and looked at the road as Blue continued to drive, playing a recent song titled "Somebody Said".
