Lost Smile part 1 two-shot story by Summer Cheng (@SummerCheng37)

Description

Adrien knew tomorrow was his mother's birthday. Every year it was harder than the one before it.

Would he ever find a reason to smile again?

Adrien's  POV:

 I entered the school quietly.

I did not want to run into Chole.

I  saw Nino headed my way with Alya not far behind him.

I felt hurt that he had a girl.

I knew it was silly.

I should be happy for my friend.

I felt invisible to those around me.

Even my closest friends never understood the real me.

Perhaps, I would be stuck like this forever.

I was stuck without a smile.

Sure, I smiled for pictures, but that was all fake.

I had no reason to smile.

I  sat at my desk.

After school, I went to the library for some privacy.

I listened to a few tunes while I read a book.

I heard a crash behind me.

Strangely, I did not recall anyone else entering the library.

I looked around to see what made the sound.

I saw a cat.

Oddly, I did not think animals usually came here.

Then, I saw her.

  "Hi, are you okay?"

I saw the sadness in her bluebell eyes.

"Y-yes, I am sorry to have disturbed you."

I wonder who she is and why she is in pain.

   I felt like I met a comrade.

A person who felt the same I did.

I saw her tuck a stray hair behind her ear.

I thought, "What would it be like to reach out and touch it?"

Huh, why would I want to do such a thing?

I  watched her turn to go.

I saw her check out a book about cats.

So, she was a cat person.  Good to know.

I saw the library door swing open.

"There you are Marinette, I have been looking all over for you."

I knew then, what I did not know before, so her name is Marinette.

Why did I feel like I must protect her?

Strange, huh, feeling this way about someone I barely meet.

I pretended not to notice her conversation with Alya.

I never knew she was friends with Nino's girlfriend.

Well, at least she is not friends with Chole.

    Somehow I felt relieved.

I saw her turn around as Alya asked, "Is that Nino's best friend over there?"

I heard Marinette say, "You mean, Adrien?  I am sure I d-do not k-know who you are speaking about Alya."

"Ha, you are totally crushing on him, girl."

I was shocked when Marinette did not respond.

Could it be true? Could Marinette like me?

Nah, no one ever did truly like me.
