Chapter 22
━━━━━━━━━
"You did remember to get me a drink right? Cause I'm pretty sure you found yourself a tall glasses of water on the second floor! You lier!" Adam yelled into the phone. Chase laughed and grabbed Bree's hand before leading them over to the elevator.
"I will give you a dollar, and you can go get yourself a soda." Chase reasoned. Adam laughed into the phone.
"Oh, you think that you can just give me a dollar and I will be totally cool with the fact that you left me to go make out with your girlfriend?" Adam said.
"You're the one that left her down here in the first place." Chase countered. Bree laughed and hit the fourth floor button.
"Touché. Oh, and your dad is awake. Say hi, Mr. Davenport." Adam said. Chase frowned as he waited to hear his fathers voice in the phone.
"Did you seriously leave Adam and I for a little hospital make out session with your girlfriend? Come on Chase! I'm on my last leg!" Donald said teasingly into the phone.
"Just for that I'm not counting your pun." Chase said before he hung up. He slipped the phone back into his pocket as the doors slid open. Chase lead Bree over to the ICU only to see his father and Adam laughing like the village idiots we all know and love. Chase rolled his eyes and walked over with Bree right behind him.
"Hey!" Adam greeted happily. Chase smiled and turned to his supposedly dying father.
"Do you feel better?" Chase asked hopefully.
"Oh yeah. Like a million bucks. Not like I broke my leg at all." Donald replied sarcastically. Chase laughed lightly as he looked to see Bree fighting a laugh.
"Oh, it's my acclaimed acquaintance! I didn't even see you there." Adam greeted. Bree sighed and turned to look at her tall friend.
"Adam. I was kidding." Bree stated simply. Chase frowned and looked between the two.
"What happened?" Chase asked.
"I asked if she wanted to be best friends forever, and you know what she said?" Adam hissed.
"She said you were acquaintances?" Chase wondered. Adam's eyes widened.
"Yeah, she did." Adam said. Bree laughed and turned back to looked at Chase's father. Donald watched intently as the three bickered back and forth.
"No please, don't mind me." Donald replied. Chase shook his head and turned to glance out into the hallway.
"Where is my husband?" Tasha shrieked as she stormed past the receptionists desk with Leo following close behind. Leo stopped just outside of the ICU as he noticed his step brother and Adam... And another person he didn't know.
"Mom! I found them!" Leo announced as he walked into the ICU. Tasha raced in after him and stopped as she reached Donald's bed.
"Oh my gosh, Donald! Are you alright?" Tasha asked. She slowly moved up to the head of the bed to face her husband.
"Tasha, I'm fine." Donald replied. She nodded, still looking worriedly around the room.
"Who is she?" Leo asked as he pointed to Bree. Bree smiled shyly as Chase wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer.
"This is Bree. My girlfriend." Chase answered happily. Bree stiffened against Chase as she heard those words. The memories of their fight suddenly can flooding back to her. It didn't seem right. How was Chase able to forgive her as if nothing happened? Any of her other boyfriends, would have told her to get lost, and never wish to speak to her again. What made Chase so different?
"Well Bree, it is nice to meet you." Leo said happily as he held out his hand to her. Bree shook it warily as Chase looked down worriedly at her.
"Are you okay?" Chase whispered. She jumped at the sound of his voice. She shouldn't be here. She and Chase still had things to work out. They couldn't act as if nothing had happened.
"Can I talk with you?" Bree whispered. Chase frowned in confusion but nodded.
"We'll be right back." Chase announced as he lead Bree out into the hallway. She held her head low as Chase glanced up and down the halls, making sure they were alone. Chase stopped along with Bree around the corner of the ICU. Bree sighed and watched as Chase looked her up and down.
"Bree?" Chase whispered as he took hold of her hands. Bree sighed and pulled away.
"Chase, aren't you still mad at me?" Bree wondered aloud. She knew if anyone had done something like that to her, she would still be furious.
"Bree, can't we just forget about that?" Chase groaned as he leaned back against the wall. Bree shook her head.
"No, we can't. We haven't really even talked about it yet. I can't just sit back and wonder if you're still mad at me." Bree whispered.
"Bree, I'm not mad-"
"Yes you are. If you weren't mad then we would have never broken up. Can't you just be honest with me? Are you, or aren't you mad?" Bree asked. She crossed her arms over her chest as Chase threw himself to stand up straight and face Bree head on.
"Yes! Alright? I'm still so upset with you that I can't even stand myself! But then, I have to let myself remember all of the times we've had together and everything that we've been through. I'm not sure if I can ever let you go." Chase explained. Bree frowned. Something still wasn't right.
"But you don't trust me any more." Bree stated simply, remembering his words before she led the office that day. Chase sighed.
"I never said that." Chase countered.
"You did a few days ago." Bree pointed out.
"Alright fine! I'm not sure whether or not to trust you. But you have given some pretty reliable information about Greenberg since you left there, and came back to Davenport Industries." Chase said. Bree stood there, trying to take it all in. She had wanted the truth, and now, she had it. She just wasn't sure if she liked it or not.
"Maybe we do need some more time apart." Bree whispered warily. Chase's eyes widened as he heard her. They had just been making out upstairs, where was all of this coming from?
"Bree-"
"No. I want you to trust me. But I also don't want to keep this going if you don't. I know what I did was wrong, and I would probably never trust me again, if I was you. I just want you to know for sure that you will be able to trust me again. I think only time can fix that." Bree suggested. Chase shook his head.
"You don't have to do that." Chase replied.
"I do. I want to. I need to actually. I can't keep pretending none of this happened, and neither can you. If there's a way we can move past this, I'm willing to do that. But for right now, this is all I can think of." Bree explained. Chase sighed.
"Alright. If that's what you want." Chase mumbled. Bree frowned.
"It is." She hissed back. She was doing this for him. He didn't trust her, and she hated that. But she understood that they needed more time apart. She knew that if she ever wanted Chase back, this was what it would take.
"See you later then." Chase said before he left Bree standing on her own. She felt her hands fall to each side as he walked away. He didn't even really say goodbye.
Chase shook his head and joined his family in the ICU. They all turned to face him with expecting looks.
"Where's Bree?" Adam asked. Chase had completely forgotten Adam had driven her here.
"Yeah, where's my future sister in law?" Leo asked as he rubbed his hands together. Everyone turned to glare at Leo. They had all caught onto the fact that something was up, even before the two had left the room.
"She... Well..." Chase left off. He couldn't just tell them it was his fault, again. He had snapped. He was done with this on again, off again thing. He hated being pushed around. But he hated not being with Bree more.
"Chase? She left, didn't she? Was it because of Marcus?" Adam rambled. Chase shook his head.
"No, this time, it was my fault. She found out I didn't trust her, and I didn't fight to get her back."
