The Seamstress and The Chat by Summer Cheng (@SummerCheng37)
Description
In this story, Marinette is a well-known seamstress. She makes clothes for many popular people.
What happens when she accidentally meets a boy who is turned into a ferocious beast?
Marinette's POV:
She entered the shop where she had the clothes in the front and a small work area in the back.
She hemmed up a dress. Then, She began to work on a few new designs. She sketched them. Then, She cut out the patterns. The first was a skirt with a matching shirt, another vest, a dress, a suit, and a few pairs of jeans.
As She worked a customer came in wanting to order a special dress. "I see, yes, I will try my very best, Miss," She said as she took the customer's measurements for the bride's dress.
She finished the first few designs that day. Then, she took a break from them to work on the bride's dress. Today was a slow day which was odd for such a popular place where all the famous and non-famous alike shopped often. Some came daily, and others twice a year.
She went home early.
She was so happy she forgot to watch her step. She stepped into a pothole on the sidewalk.
She felt her ankle bruise and whinced in pain. She got home without any more injuries.
That evening she had a nightmare, a creepy cat jumped out at her and scratched her. She fussed at it but then saw it was hurt. The cat's left ear was bleeding. "All you poor dear," She said. She bandaged the ear. Then, she sent the cat away.
The next day Marinette was on the way to work when a giant black beast stood before her. It was blocking her path. "Please, do be so kind as to move out of my way," she spoke kindly.
The black panther moved. It also looked sad. She wondered what troubled the animal.
"Are you alright?" She asked. She looked closer and saw that the beast's front paw was hurt. "Awe, you poor thing," She said. She went into her shop and got out the first aid kit. She came back and bandaged the cat's paw.
The panther licked her cheek to thank her. "You are welcome, now I must be going, Chat so I won't be late," She said. She returned to her work.
Chat as she had called him hid behind the dumpster outside the back door. He decided to stay there to keep guard over the kind princess who had helped him. He wished he could tell her about how he was not always a beast, but could not find a way to form the words.
That evening as Marinette closed the shop after a busy day fulfilling customers' orders, Chat turned into a boy with a leather suit, cat ears, and a tail. He was allowed to be in this form at night only. He took on the form of a panther during the day.
Marinette saw him as she headed home. "Where did you come from?"
"Hi, Miss, thanks for helping me earlier." He said.
"Do I know you from somewhere?" She inquired. "I was the panther that you helped. See, I am one way by day another by night."
"I see, that sounds dreadful," She answered.
"Yes, well, I have been this way for four years. I have to find someone to help me before the end of this year or else..." He started to sob. He did not like to think about it.
"Or else what?"
"Well, if no one loves me as this and as the panther by then, I shall die." He stated.
"D-Die? Oh, no there must be some way for you to live," Marinette said.
Marinette took him home with her. She let him stay in the small space below the staircase. He did not seem to mind. He curled up and fell asleep. She watched him. She thought he was a little cute and blushed. Hmm, where had that thought come from?
She went to bed but found it difficult to sleep. She was worried about Chat.
Time Skip...
As time went on Marinette became friends with this strange cat boy and his panther form. Many people thought she was crazy for associating with him. Yet no one told her to keep away from him.
A few customers decided to take their business elsewhere as they did not trust a beast not to damage their clothes or attack them.
Marinette knew better, she knew he was tame even as a panther.
One day, the beast stood up and bared his teeth at her. Marinette knew he did not mean it. She gently stroked his fur with her hand, "There, there, Chat, I know, but trust me, it will be alright." She even leaned over and kissed the edge of his nose.
That evening, she kissed his nose again when he was in the cat boy mode.
This behavior went on for a few weeks, until one day, Marinette saw him in pain.
She looked him over but found no wounds. What could be hurting him?
"Chat what is the matter, my Chat?"
"Marinette, do you love me?" He asked.
Marinette did not know how to respond. She was shocked by the question.
"I adore you," She said.
"I see," He walked away sadly.
That evening, Marinette woke up to hear a horrible sound. The local villagers were trying to kill the panther. It was because some local cattle had gone missing.
"Stop, you can't harm him!" Marinette yelled.
The villagers scoffed, "Out of the way woman!" One man even kicked her, another shoved her so hard she fell.
Chat did something he had not done in years. He stood up on two legs, glared at the men, and bit one on his leg. He did not bite hard just enough to scare him.
The mean men taunted him and hit him. They also pointed a gun at him. Marinette tried to stand up but found she couldn't move.
Marinette screamed, "No, Chat!" As the shot rang out, the panther fell to the ground. He did not so much as twitch.
The villagers ran off leaving his body lying there on the grass. Marinette who could finally move ran to him. "Chat stay with me, Please don't go! Chat, I -I..." Marinette sobbed. She should have confessed when he first asked her. She held one of his paws on her lap and continued to weep. It was too late, she had lost him and it was all her fault.
Marinette stood up with tears in her eyes. She was angry at the villagers who dared to take her Chat away from her.
She put a closed until further notice sign in the shop. She needed time to grieve her loss before she stepped foot in there to sew another thing.
She returned to Chat's lifeless body and saw the panther fad away into the cat boy. She leaned over him and held his face in her hand . She saw that he did not move. "N-No, Chat, come back to me. I can't be without you, I love you." She pleaded with him. She closed her eyes and kissed him. She knew it was useless but could not let him go without kissing him goodbye.
She did not notice as his body was raised into the air before it vanished. She did not see as it was replaced by a young man dressed in black and green. He held a sword in one hand and a shield in the other.
"Princess, Marinette, I love you," he said. He heard her sobs. He kissed her and as he did she opened her eyes. "Where is C-Chat?" she wanted to know.
"Right here," He said.
"What, you are him? You are," she said softly. She smiled and kissed him.
Soon Marinette and he were engaged to be married. No one quite understood how this happened, how the long-assumed dead prince returned.
Marinette reopened the shop a few days later in celebration of her engagement. Chat watched as she worked. He even helped her with a few of the smaller designs.
A few months later, Marinette married the only one who ever loved her and they could never be happier.
The end...
