twenty four.
Being awoken rather aggressively, Zela groaned as she kept getting shook, and she finally pushed the person away as the wouldn't stop.
"Fuck, what?"
She said, genuinely annoyed, as she had woke up hours prior to say goodbye to Danny and Jackie before going back to sleep.
"Jackie's gone!"
Alex said, and Zela really didn't want to deal with the lovebomber this early in the morning.
"Okay? And?"
She muttered, rubbing her eyes, attempting to get the sleep out of them, as she wanted to do nothing but bite his head off.
"Jackie's gone, she went to New York with Danny and her uncle."
Alex said, as he was looking at her, his eyes wide and Zela groaned loudly, as she plopped back down pulling the comforter up over her head.
"It's not like I can do anything about it, she's done gone and I don't have a license, and by now she'd be on the plane and you can't make calls on a plane. Now would you please leave me to sleep."
She spoke, an underlying feeling of annoyance laced in her tone, and Alex rolled his eyes at her as he muttered about how it was, 'useless to even ask her' and Zela mentally cussed him out.
As Alex left the loft, Zela got comfortable in her bed again, before she felt weight on her bed and she groaned once again before she rose up in anger.
"Alex just leave!"
She yelled, before she realized who she was looking at and she stared at them for a second, blinking in thought as she looked at them in confusion.
"Darynn?"
She softly spoke, as the man's face brightened up in a smile, as he looked at her and Zela looked at him in complete shock.
"What? How? How are you here?"
She asked, and Darynn grinned as he leaned against her headboard, and shrugged.
"I took a plane here, simple. Oh, and your uncle Richard told me where you lived now."
His scottish accent still as thick as the last time she had heard it, and she slowly nodded taking it all in at once, and she rubbed her temples as it was still too early for all of this to be happening.
"You didn't call or text me, at all. You ghosted me."
She said, and Darynn frowned as he reached over grabbing her hand, and he closed his eyes as he leaned his head against her headboard.
"We didn't really know if you wanted to be contacted, we knew you didn't really like being on your phone. Not to mention we know you grieve with wanting to be alone, so we didn't really know what to do."
He explained, and Zela let a small smile grace her lips, as she looked down at the covers nodding her head.
"I understand, it would've been nice to at least gotten a text or a call."
She mumbled, and Darynn nodded his head as he understood her, and Zela looked over at him smiling softly.
"Which is why we figured we'd spend the whole summer with you, we thought it'd be better than a text or a call."
Hearing another voice, she looked over to see Baxis and Cher as they finally climbed the ladder to her room, and Zela's eyes widened as she ran out of bed hugging the two.
"You're both here as well?"
She asked excitedly, and they hugged her back instantly, and Darynn got out of the bed and joined the hug, as he picked up Zela and spun her around, causing her to laugh.
"We aren't going to take all the credit though, your little friend, Cole, contacted us."
Cher spoke up, and Zela looked between the three and both Darynn and Baxis nodded their heads, and Zela's heart swelled at the thought of Cole doing something so thoughtful for her.
"Now, come on. You're going to show us around Colorado."
Baxis said, and Zela nodded her head eagerly, as she ran over to her clothing rack and grabbed a quick outfit, as she quickly got dressed behind her privacy divider.
Once she was dressed, all four of them headed down towards the house, as Zela wanted food before she left and wanted to introduce everyone.
"Oh! Isaac and Lee!"
She yelled to get their attention and the two teenagers turned around to see what she had wanted and noticed the three new people in their house and walked up to Zela.
"Guys, this is Baxis, Cher, and Darynn. They're my friends from New York."
She introduced, and quickly caught Nathan's wrist as he was about to head into the kitchen.
"Nathan, this is my friends from New York, Baxis, Cher, and that's Darynn."
Nathan waved at them, and the four of them began talking as Cole walked downstairs and noticed all the people in the house, and he instantly looked to Zela who looked ten times happier with them around.
"Guys! This is Cole, the one who invited you guys."
Hearing his name being brought up, he walked over and smiled at them, as he wanted to make a good impression on Zela's friends.
"That's Cher, Baxis, and the one talking to Nathan is Darynn."
Once Darynn had heard his name, he walked over and grinned at Cole, as Cole studied Darynn from head to toe.
"Darynn. You're a guy. When Baxis was talking about you, I heard you being called Ryn."
Cole said, as he immediately felt intimidated by Darynn after what happened the last time one of Zela's other guy person came.
"Ryn's a nickname Zela gave me when we were younger, it's stuck since."
Darynn's accent stuck out to Cole, and that instantly made him feel like he had been punched in the gut. He knew how girls were with guys who had accents.
"I see."
Cole said, and Zela smiled as she grabbed Darynn's wrist and led him over to the island where breakfast was laid out for anyone to grab as Katherine had left on call.
"Feed me like old times."
Zela said, laughing, and Darynn rolled his eyes at her and shook his head.
"I am not feeding you."
He said, and Cole watched as Darynn wrapped an arm around Baxis, and Cole's whole demeanor relaxed when he thought ahead way too soon.
"You're no fun."
She muttered, and Cher walked over and grabbed the piece of bacon Zela was about to eat and started feeding her, and Cole's guard went back up as Baxis leaned over and started drawing shapes on Zela's hand, and Darynn would continue to flirt with Zela as well.
Cole had no idea what kind of friend group Zela was in, but he did know that it seemed like he had to be on guard about all of them.
"I'm going to be going out soon, I don't know what time I'll be back, will you inform Katherine?"
Zela asked, as she walked by Cole and her friends followed in tow as they all walked out of the house.
"Is it just me, or does Zela seem like she belongs with everyone she speaks with?"
Nathan asked, and Cole could only just nod his head, as he was internally dying.
"Good luck, champ."
Isaac said, patting Cole's shoulder as he was heading upstairs.
"You did a good thing, girls like big gestures like that."
Lee said, trying to attempt to make Cole feel better.
"Better hope the Cole affect still works."
Nathan added, as he finally went to go get his food for himself.
