CHAPTER 21
FRIDAY
With the long week past of working with Sammy, and finishing that essay, we were finally done.
The rest of the days we had left, we ended up just texting about the essay instead. We didn't want to take any more risks than we had to by getting caught by our parents.
I've learned a little more than I'd like to admit from him, with him being the 6'0 princess he is and a weirdo who doesn't believe in ghosts, we finally finished and are handing in papers today.
Also yes, he typed his own paper, thankfully.
"Yeah, we're kind of a big deal, got a big A on our essays." I gloat, sitting straight up at the table along with the rest.
Meaning just the best friends of Sammy and I.
"Yeah," Sammy scoffed, "Because I did all the work."
I snapped my head toward him, giving the biggest glare I could form. "We both know that's not true with that broken hand of yours." I motioned down to his orange cast.
He rolled his eyes, "Whatever, you can blame me all you want but technically if you hadn't broken it, I could've done more."
"Guys! Stop you're annoying speaking," Skye waved her hand in the air as she scrolled through her phone before placing it on the table, "I need to get our plans in check for tonight, so we meet at...Ryan's house for the Halloween dance?"
Ah, the Halloween dance, it'd be a tradition our school did for years that Skye always pulled me to. I wasn't big on social events, but she surely was when it came to dances. Whenever she had a chance to glam up, she would take it.
"Sounds good to me, babe." Ryan formed a smile on his lips as he pulled her into a small side hug. "Sammy can get ready at my house, he'll need the time to make himself look beautiful." Ryan jokingly stared right back at Sammy.
"Very funny, I'm not the one with a girlfriend though." He clasped his hands onto the table as he leaned forward.
"Skye will think I'm beautiful either way, right?" Ryan pouted his lip out as he looked down at Skye, and she rolled her eyes playfully.
"Of course, as long as you match me with your suit tonight." She grinned, bumping her arm into his in a teasing way.
I chuckle, "How cute, you're matching."
"Well, It wasn't my idea," Ryan mumbled under his breath, making Skye snap her head up at him with a glare.
"What was that?"
"Oh, nothing." He scratched the back of his neck with a nervous laugh, "Anyway, yeah, it'll be fun."
"That's what I thought." She squinted her eyes at him and I shook my head in amusement.
This is why I love my best friend.
"And Sam, I already have a sexy dress picked out for you, I already know you enough that you don't even have a dress planned out." Skye switched her attention onto me, and I nodded along with what she was saying because she wasn't wrong.
I always planned on stealing Skye's clothes anyway.
"Sam and sexy don't mix." Sammy piped into the conversation making me narrow my eyes onto him who sat beside me.
He had that stupid accomplished look on his face that I wanted to smack off so badly.
"Stop lying to yourself Sammy, I see the way you look at Sam, and it's places enemies should not look." Skye blurted out without any care as she took a bite of her Mac and cheese.
My cheeks reddened even if what she said was probably not true. The thought of Sammy thinking I was somewhat attractive and thinking the curves I had were sexy made me feel...weird. Not a bad weird, almost like, I wanted him to look.
All eyes were now on Sammy as they awaited his comeback including mine.
"I don't like Sam like that, so why would I be looking?"
"I don't know, it was just an observation." Skye shrugged before standing up with her tray.
I pressed my lips together, standing up with her as I picked mine up, "Well, see everyone later tonight."
I quickly spun on my shoes and walked side by side with Skye, not forgetting to throw a glare her way for making things awkward at the table.

"This one?" Skye raised a yellow dress, and I scrunched my nose up in disgust.
"Yellow? Really?"
"I'm starting to think we'll never find you a dress in time if you keep being so picky." Skye threw the dress onto her bed and made her way back to her closet to look for yet, another dress.
"I'm never picky." I defended myself, flopping onto the bed on my back. I take my phone out of my back pocket and go straight to matched to kill some time while she does her thing.
Eviee: Since we matched based on interests and our location, I'm guessing you go to the same school?
I tried not to be so obvious, but I figured he already knew we went to the same school so it was worth the conversation starter.
"Keep thinking that...oh! This is the one." Skye spoke with confidence once she pulled out a longer dress in the color of a deep green.
My eyes trailed up to the dress, and a smile soon met my lips, "Ah, that is pretty." I stood up, throwing the phone to the side as I inspected the dress some more.
She was standing in front of me as it hung down from the hanger she was holding onto. The shade of green was almost an emerald color with a faint touch of sparkles scattered across it. The back had the crisscross to show some skin on my back. With the dress being short, I was hoping it'd be a comfortable length for me since Skye was a bit taller than me.
"Wow, it's even silk at the top of the dress." I felt the fabric of the dress, taking it in my hands so I could get ready. "Alright, you're right, this is the one."
"Yeah, I know. It screams Sam Ryder." Skye wiggled her dark eyebrows before shooing me to her bathroom that was connected to her room, "Go! You gotta impress Sammy." She winked as I started my way to the bathroom before turning around slowly.
"Once again, not gonna happen." I gave her a pointed finger and she smirked at my response.
I go into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me with the dress in hand. I glanced at myself in the mirror and looked at my appearance as I let out a deep breath.
Sam and sexy don't go together, huh? I'll show him.
After changing into the dress, I turn around and look at myself in the mirror once again. I smiled as the dress fit the curves I did have just right. The glitter scattered across the middle of the dress made me happy as the light hit it, and I adjusted the sleeves slightly as they hugged my arms down to my wrists.
I opened the door of the bathroom to see Skye already working on her makeup, and once she saw me her eyes lit up with excitement.
"Sexy, hot, fucking amazing, Sam?!" She exclaimed, jumping out of her chair from her vanity to get a closer look. "Uh huh, tight dresses look good on you."
"It's not too tight it is?!" I panicked, glancing down at the dress as I tried to smooth it out.
"Sam, please, I wouldn't give you a hooker dress to a school Halloween dance." She scoffed, shaking her head as she went back to her vanity to do her makeup before applying a red lipstick.
I rolled my eyes playfully as I made my way to her bed to sit down, "Okay, and you say I look good? look at you!" I motioned to her dress which was a deep shade of red that matched her lipstick.
"I know, Ryan is going to definitely want to take it off by the end of the-" She started, and I quickly waved my hand in the air for her to stop.
"Do you guys do anything else other than sex?" I shiver in disgust at the thought.
"Okay, hate all you want." She started applying the rest of her makeup as I let a small laugh out.
Suddenly a buzz from my phone made me glance down at the screen that signaled it was Sammy. I smiled as I picked the phone up to read his message on matched.
Sammy: hmm maybe so, you go to Windell High?
Eviee: I don't know, do I?
Sammy: you gave it away in your first message, wow eviee, don't you know any better than giving out personal information to strangers?
I rolled my eyes at his response as he teased me about the times of me referring to him as a stranger.
Eviee: Oh stop, you're far from a stranger now.
Sammy: then what am I?
I stared at the screen as I debated on what to say, then started to type away again.
Eviee: I was going to friend zone you, but I guess I'll put you in the category of a potential love interest
Sammy: well good, you were already in that category.
My cheeks started to feel flush, and I quickly threw my phone onto the bed. Why have my cheeks been heating up at the stupidest things this man has been doing? Even through text on this stupid dating app, I'm supposed to be the one playing him.
"Alright, guess who's next?" Skye brought me out of my thoughts, making me raise my eyes up to her as she patted the chair to her vanity. "We can even add flowers to your hair! It'll so go with your green vibe."
I sighed already knowing this was going to take forever.

Orange string lights were scattered across the gym with the rest of the lighting being dimmed down. The school tried going all out this year as they had a DJ playing in the corner with all types of spooky music. There were fog machines and little decor of pumpkins and candles scattered across the tables back within the area where the punch was being served.
I smiled in delight, absolutely loving this holiday. This weekend would be Halloween, and I was so ready for it.
I wished we could dress up for the dance, but the school doesn't trust the teenage students picking out their costumes and wearing them here. A few years back they banned it because students started to wear very revealing and disturbing costumes.
It even about gave our 90-year-old principal a heart attack, so yes, she made sure it was banned.
"Where's Sammy? He never showed up at your house, and those were my direct orders beforehand!" Skye placed her hands on her hips as she scanned the room of dancing teenagers.
"Sammy is always late, and for two, he always calls it fashionably late," Ryan explained making me roll my eyes.
"When has he ever been fashionable?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
"That's what I'm saying, you should've seen him a few weeks back. He fell asleep in jeans!" Ryan scrunched his nose up as he was remembering the moment.
"I believe it."
"Wow, talking trash on people is so not nice." A familiar voice spoke, making us all turn around to face the one and only, Sammy Sandars.
"Sammy..." I trailed out, my eyes falling onto him, but I wasn't gonna say I hated the sight.
The man made sure to dress up as if it was a dance, he was in his all-black tux with a pop of green and orange. His smile was playful as he gleamed with amusement, making me reflect the same energy.
He ran a hand through his brown hair, making it more tussled than it was before. His eyes sparkled against the flashing lights, and for a moment, we made intense eye contact before he moved his eyes away from me and onto Ryan.
"I was telling them all your secrets." Ryan grinned, making Sammy roll his brown eyes.
"Yeah? With that loud ass mouth of yours, I bet you were."
"Hey, I take Ryan more as the quiet type, but you..." I wiggled my finger toward Sammy as I was in thought, "You have the loud mouth."
"Uh huh, says the one who broke my hand," Sammy smirked as he tilted his head to the side.
I scrunched my eyebrows together before glancing around, "How does that even relate to this conversation?"
"It doesn't, I just like bringing it up." He shrugged before backing up from the crowd, "Anyway, I'm gonna go get some punch, I'll be back."
"Don't get lost!" I yelled through the crowd, making Skye and Ryan both roll their eyes.
"Just date already." Skye piped in, making me whip my head in her direction.
"Huh?"
"Date," Ryan repeated her words, and I looked between them both as if they were crazy.
"You two are wishing on something that'll never happen."
They both just stared at me, as if I was the crazy one. Absolutely not, they are crazy.
"It'll happen." Skye grinned before moving her eyes behind me. Her brows furrowed as she was in thought, making me turn to see what she was looking at.
The sight of Travis made my heart ache, he was standing at the table where they were serving punch and I so badly wanted to run away and hide.
Yeah, of course, he would be here, but it doesn't mean I like it much.
My brows were now furrowed as well, noticing he was speaking with Sammy.
