Chapter 15
"Paul really likes you y'know." George spoke up cutting through the silence in the car that had set over once we'd left from the party.
"Well he loves Jane so I don't see why it would matter." I looked over to George from the window with a sigh.
"I know you're upset love, and rightfully so, but he and Jane are slowly drifting away from eachother. They've spent so much time apart." He shook his head.
"Well, it still isn't right to go cheating on her because she's not around." I looked at him disheartened by merely talking about it.
"Look, I know Paul really screwed up, but I haven't seen him this happy in months. He really does care for you a great deal Charlie." George assured me.
I stayed silent unsure of how to respond, feeling my head spinning with millions of thoughts.
George drove me the rest of the way to Audrey and Ben's house. I thanked him for the trouble he'd went through before walking into the house.
I saw Audrey by the fireplace reading through magazines while she waited for me.
Her head immediately turned and lit up brightly.
"Why are you so happy?" I laughed taking my shoes off.
She held up her hand, revealing an engagement ring.
"No." I whispered in amazement.
"Yes!" She squealed happily.
"Woah." I gulped watching her ring finger closely as she walked over giddily.
"When did he?" I trailed off speechlessly as I looked at the giant rock on her ring finger.
"He took me back to the restaurant we went to on our first date." She smiled in awe as her ring sparkles in the dim lighting.
"Congratulations." I nodded in amazement smiling, absolutely speechless.
"Thank you," She beamed. "Tomorrow morning Bennie and I are going to my mothers house to tell them the news. Will you be alright here?" Her smile fell slightly.
"Oh, yes of course!" I smiled.
"I'm going to go get some rest. See you tomorrow Charlie." Audrey smiled begging to walk upstairs to her and Ben's room.
I waved congratulating her once more and walked in the opposite direction on the first floor to my room.
Once I got in bed I couldn't fall asleep. I had made such a mess of everything and I couldn't help but feel envious of Audrey, she had her life together. I was an absolute hot mess, I had never been so sure of anything until I had met Paul, and now I wasn't even sure if I'd ever see him again. I couldn't even support myself like I'd hoped when I left from my parents house and I was struggling to find a job that would support me enough to be independent.
I was restless trying to stop thinking about Paul, but whenever I closed my eyes all I could see was flashbacks from the party, the way he'd stood up to Oliver for me even though I told him I never wanted to see him again.

The next morning I slept in until noon, feeling just as sad as when I'd fallen asleep.
I walked along the hallways in the giant empty house wondering if I'd ever be living in such luxury as Audrey. Every bridge of mine had burned and I felt as if there wasn't anywhere to go except back home to my parents.
I telephoned my mother hesitantly, knowing I'd have to tell her what had happened or else she'd be calling the telephone from my old flat.
After a couple rings she had picked up.
"Hello?" She sang pleasantly.
"Hi mum." I pursed my lips playing with the telephone cord nervously.
"Charlotte! You haven't called in ages!" She laughed sounding sarcastic.
"It's been a week." I responded flatly with my eyebrows creased together.
"Well I've been trying to call but there's no answer." She tutted.
"Well that's because, I-got-kicked-out-of-my-flat." I mumbled the last part quickly.
The line was silent for a moment.
"You were what?" She asked seeming to have understood me.
"Waitressing isn't as highly paid as one would hope." I looked at my feet shamefully, a lump forming in the back of my throat.
"You mean to tell me you're homeless?" She asked worriedly like the hand wringer she was.
"She's what?" I heard my father ask sternly in the background. I winced gulping.
"No, I'm not. Audrey's letting me stay with her until I get back on my feet." I defended myself.
"Helen, give me the telephone." I heard my father protest sounding furious.
"Not now Robert." She dismissed him.
"Look mom, I'll be alright, I just wanted to tell you to call Audrey's line if you need to telephone me." I spoke nervously ready to hang up the phone before my father had a chance to yell at me.
"No, Charlotte Gray," she tried continuing.
"Bye mum, call you tomorrow. Love you!" I sang before slamming down the telephone on the set.
I sighed shutting my eyes tightly, running my hands through my hair anxiously.
As if on cue a few moments later the doorbell rang, causing me to tense up with fright. I peaked around the corner to look at the front door, swing the shadow of a grown man through the decorative glass on either side of the door.
I ran back to the kitchen to grab a frying pan frightened. Holding it near to me as I walked to the door to open it.
"Charlie." Paul's relieved expression greeted me causing me to gasp feeling my heart rise to my throat.
"How did you know I'd be here?" I gulped shakily.
"I had to beg George to give me the address." He began.
"Look Charlie, I know messed up. I'm really sorry, I really, really like you. I know it sounds cheesy, but you aren't like any other bird I've ever met. When I'm with you, I feel like I can just be me, without having to put on a facade of being a Beatle," he began to pour his heart out genuinely scanning over my features to seek out what my reaction was.
The whole time he talked I couldn't help but be thankful that he'd found me and for everything that he'd done for me previously. The resentment I had once felt was no match for the way he made me feel. The way he had stood up for me at the party, although slightly frightening, was really sweet and I knew no other bloke would've done what he did.
He made a mistake, a huge one, and I knew very well that he had made a commitment to Jane, but I felt so strongly for Paul I could barley contain myself much longer.
"I know what I did was inexcusable, and I'm so sorry about yesterday," he continued on.
I smiled catching him off guard, crashing my lips onto his while holding his face in between my hands.
It only took moments before he returned the kiss, pulling me closer to him by my waist.
It felt as if every worry was erased from my mind in pure bliss.
When we soon pulled apart, there was a lingering smile on both Paul and I's faces.
"Does this mean you forgive me?" Paul chuckled.
I laughed and shoved his arm.
"Paul, I really want to be with you," I looked at him trailing off.
"But?" He asked knowing it wasn't as simple as that.
"I don't just want to be the girl you're cheating on your girlfriend with. You have to decide what you want, because you can't have both." I looked up at him nervously.
"I choose you." He spoke without hesitation.
"Have you told Jane that?" I looked down at my feet.
Paul lifted my chin with his finger.
"Charlie, I'll tell her right now if you want me to." He looked desperate for my complete forgiveness.
I smiled at his lost puppy dog eyes.
I knew from that moment forward I would have Paul to myself for a long time to come.
