Why Me? - 25

Jimin gasps, falling to the ground with a groan. Raven grabs Jungkook, but the furious man throws her back with ease. It's like she weighs nothing.

"Baby!" Jimin yells upon seeing her hit a tree.

Jimin hops to his feet, the other Hunters drawing their swords. Jungkook on the other hand growls like an animal and stares Jimin down. Jimin's blue glow comes to him, a huff leaving his lips.

"Jungkook, what the hell is going on with you?" Jimin asks, not expecting an answer. Jimin holds up his hand to the other Hunters. "Stand down. I got this."

"You're insane!" Val calls.

"Maybe. Only interfere if you absolutely have to. I'm not risking anyone getting hurt."

"He shot flames out of his sword, Jimin!" Tae protests, "you could get hurt!"

"Rather it be me than anyone else."

Before anyone can protest, Jungkook pounces again, his red glow intimidating as hell, but Jimin can't back down now. Jungkook tackles Jimin to the dirt, the two rolling around until Jimin comes out on top. His blue powers are almost blinding, but Jungkook still puts up a fight. He roars, almost sounding like a demon. Jimin's eyes widen from the noise. At his distraction, Jungkook slips free and flies up, holding out his sword.

"Jungkook, enough!" Jimin shouts. Jungkook stays still, his sword hovering in the air. "What the hell's wrong with you?!"

Jimin sees Jungkook's hesitation and acts on it, slowly placing his bow and quiver on the ground. The other Hunters look at him like he's insane. He ignores it.

"Jungkook," Jimin borderline whispers, holding his hands up to prove he isn't a threat. "We're brothers, Jeon, you know that. We both do. Come on, don't do this to me, okay? Just come down and let's figure this out, together. Together like we should be. Jungkook, please."

The younger demon-like man heaves but doesn't reply.

"Jungkook," Jimin pleads, "you're my best friend. More than my that: you're my brother. We're connected, you and I. I know you'll listen to me, please."

Jimin gives the best pleading look he can give, Jungkook finally starting to calm down from his rage. He soars down, panting and glancing around with wide eyes. Jimin holds a hand over his bruised ribs from where Jungkook tackled him and takes a shaky step closer.

Jungkook's red glow begins to fade, Jimin's blue fading with it. "There you go, I'm right here, bud. I'm right here," Jimin murmurs.

Jungkook gulps and takes Jimin's hand, completely extinguishing the fire he had before. "Jimin?" Jungkook's hoarse voice asks.

Jimin nods. "I'm here."

Jungkook breaks down crying, slipping away from Jimin and falling to his knees. Y/N starts to rush over, but she stops, realizing that Jungkook needs a moment alone with his brother.

Jimin goes down with Jungkook, the younger hopping into Jimin's embrace. He cradles the boy, shushing him and stroking his hair.

"It's okay... I'm here, it's gonna be okay," Jimin murmurs.

Jungkook nods and pulls back to meet Jimin's eyes. "I saw an angel," he admits, "when the class 6 knocked me back, I went into this dream-like world and saw an angel. Lillian, the ruler of the skies... Jimin, she said you're the descendant of Nikolai Allbrook."

And just like that, Jimin's walls break.

He falls back on his ass, sucking in the burning air around him. His hands become clammy and tremble with his lower lip. The information seeps through to Jimin's mind, but he can't comprehend it no matter how hard he tries.

"Lillian made me the half-breed. She got to choose, and she made it me. I don't fucking get it! You're the one with pure angel blood,-but me? I'm a mix between a Hunter and demon," Jungkook continues in a sob.

Jimin stares at him without speaking, as do the other Hunters who are awkwardly watching.

"I have demon blood," Jungkook whispers, "that's what caused me to attack you. Lillian gave me the full extent of my powers and it overwhelmed me. I can't guarantee it won't happen again. I'll need to work on it, but until then..."

"You shouldn't use your powers," Jimin finishes in a mumble. "Shit."

Jungkook sobs, Jimin too numb to do so. His whole life he's been told he's a Hunter. Then he gets told he's a half-breed, something that shattered his perspective on life and his family. Now he's being told he's a descendant of the most powerful Hunter known to mankind. How the hell does he react to any of that? He's more powerful than his parents let him think. Why did they lie? He'll never know, but he wishes he could.

"I'm so sorry, Jimin," Jungkook says with a whimper. "It should've been you. You're the Allbrook, you're the one who cares so deeply about others that you'd rather die than see them get hurt."

Jimin shushes Jungkook's cries. "None of that matters, not now."

"But why me?" he whispers in a pained tone.

"Because you're worth it," Jimin softly replies.

Jungkook's sobs only increase. "But I'm no one!"

Jimin shakes him off, wiping away his tears. "No, Jungkook, you're not no one. You're exactly who you need to be."

Jungkook manages to smile, and Jimin brings him back into a tight hug. He gladly accepts it. The others are sitting now, staring off into space. Too much happened all at once. A class 6, Jungkook's attack, Jimin being an Allbrook, the rift opening... it's all way too much. Jimin sniffles, peeking over Jungkook's shoulder at the rift.

"It's still open," Jimin says.

Namjoon is the only one who turns to look. The others are too occupied with their mental states. Namjoon wobbly gets to his feet and goes over, eyeing the steam hissing out of the hole in the ground.

"I'm not sure how much time we have," Namjoon says. "There could be more on the way, and who knows when that class 6 will come back."

At the mention of the class 6, panic breaks out.

"How is there another?!" Val cries.

"We're all gonna fucking die!" Tae exclaims.

Jimin closes his eyes and holds Jungkook just a little bit tighter. Jimin lets out a breath, feeling a hand rest on his shoulder. He pulls away from Jungkook and opens his eyes, amazed to see Raven kneeling.

"Are you okay?" she asks him.

Jimin nods, holding a hand over his ribs. "Nothing sleep won't fix."

Jungkook's eyes widen. "Did I do that?"

Jimin nods. "Don't worry about it, please. I've healed from worse."

It's only the truth, he's healed from much, much worse. But he knows Jungkook won't care. He'll only see the fact that he did it and nothing else.

"Jimin, I'm so sorry," Jungkook mumbles.

Y/N comes over, back-hugging her boyfriend and cradling him. He keeps crying, unable to stop. Jimin can't even begin to imagine the emotional dent this is putting on Jungkook. He's the chosen one. The half-breed meant to save them all. On top of that, he found out he has demon blood, and he attacked his own Hunters, even mildly injuring one. Jimin would be breaking down too in Jungkook's shoes.

Speaking of breaking down, Jimin feels his panic attack coming. "Oh God," he whispers. "We're all gonna die. Tae's right, we're all gonna fucking die."

Raven kisses his forehead. "It's gonna be okay."

"How?" he asks in a broken whisper.

That she doesn't answer. Instead she goes back on girlfriend duties and simply comforts him while he shivers. He collapses into her arms, squeezing her as tightly as he can.

"I don't wanna lose you," he murmurs, crying into her chest.

She strokes his hair, soothing him momentarily. "Shh, shh," she whispers, kissing the top of his head. "You won't, okay? You won't. I won't let anything bad happen to you. Do you trust me?"

He pulls back to meet her pretty blue eyes. He instantly falls into them, as cliche as it sounds.

"I love you," he admits.

She goes still, amazed by the words. Then, she grabs his shirt and brings their lips together. He kisses back in an instant, holding her tightly.

They part seconds later, Jimin sniffling.

"I love you," he repeats, almost breaking with the words. "I love you so much. I'm sorry you have to put up with me."

"Shh, shh, I love you too. I love you more than you could know," she replies, bringing his head down to rest on her soft chest.

It feels like he's in heaven. After what just happened with Jungkook, he needs her. He needs an escape, and she's always been his rock. His comfort. His love.

"I love you," she murmurs. He grips at the back of her shirt, digging his head more on her chest. "We'll protect each other, Jimin Allbrook."

He chuckles, reaching up to pull on her red locks. "Are you okay?" he asks, referring to her getting knocked into a tree by Jungkook.

"It hurts like hell," she mumbles, "but I didn't want him to feel bad."

Jimin rubs over the spot, being careful not to apply too much pressure. "How is it now?"

"A bit better," she replies, groaning, "wish I had your half-breed healing powers right about now."

Jimin chuckles, but he also frowns. "Are you sure you're okay? He's a literal demon," Jimin whispers.

She cuddles up against him. "Minnie, I'm more worried about you."

"I'm fine-"

"Not physically," she interrupts.

He stares at her, the two never letting their eyes go anywhere else. Then, he breaks down.

"We're all dead. We're dead Hunters walking," he murmurs, his voice cracking.

She can't even disagree. She couldn't a minute ago when he said it, and she can't now.

It's only the truth: they're all going to die.
