"I'll be back in a week." He reassured, placing his hands on her shoulders. He carefully brushed back her long blonde hair before lifting her chin and meeting her eyes with his.

"Do you promise?" Her voice came out in a soft whisper, her blue eyes locked onto his.

"I swear." He pressed a kiss to her forehead, pulling her into a tight hug. Then he stood, looking up at her mother, his wife, with an uncertain smile.

"You're going to be late for your flight." She told him, voice wavering. He brought his hands to her cheeks, dragging his fingers over them lovingly. Finally, he pulled her in for a slow, sweet kiss goodbye.

Flight 216 now boarding! Please proceed to the check in.

"I love you, Elise." He told her, picking up his bag. He walked up to the slowly dwindling line of people waiting to get on the flight. As he got checked in, the last thing she saw from him was a solemn wave goodbye.

"Are you ok?"

"No. He's still not home."

"When is he scheduled to get back?"

"He was supposed to be here yesterday! I haven't heard anything from him or about the flight."

"Don't panic. I'm sure everything is ok. Hey, I have to do something real quick. Let me call you back tomorrow, alright? See you."

Elise put the phone down on the table and stared forlornly at the tablecloth. Her fingers picked at the cloth in front of her as her eyes filled with tears.

Where are you, Tom? Her daughter was tucked into bed upstairs. It had been quite a fight getting her to sleep for the past week with the poor girl crying fruitlessly for her father. She missed him dearly. And so did Elise.

What if... no. I have to be positive. It's only been a day over. He'll be back.

...Right?

As that thought crossed her mind, the sound of keys scraping on the doorknob reached her ears. She stood from the table, walking slowly towards the front door. Was the sound from her imagination?

No- there it was again. A familiar jingle of keys, the little click as the door was unlocked, the turning of the knob in front of her. And then suddenly the door swung open and she was swept up in Tom's gorgeous blue eyes.

"Tom!" She cried out. He scooped her into a hug, holding her as close to him as he could.

"I missed you." He told her.

"Where have you been? You were supposed to come back yesterday, there was no news, you didn't call me and I've been so worried but now you're -"

He kissed her, stopping the rambling and soothing her nerves with the feel of his presence.

"I'm sorry I couldn't get any reception. The flight was delayed for a while from a storm."

"I'm just happy you're home safe." She said.

"Mommy?" A curious, sleepy voice came from the top of the stairs. Her daughter stood in her night gown, clutching a teddy bear in one hand and rubbing the sleep from her eyes with the other. "What's going on?"

"Daddy's home." She spoke with a watery smile.
