RANDOMNESS #5 / ADVICE #1?
Okay, Intervention here. These two things are becoming huge pet peeves of mine.
I've recently been looking at some new Warrior Cars fanfics to read, because I am bored, but every time I try to find a good one, it generally fits into one of four categories:
1. Great plot line but no writing skill
2. Lots of writing skill but no plot line
3. OC clans (IDK just ticks me off for some reason. Do you tho)
4. WAY TOO LONG (yes there is such a thing)
It's so frustrating, especially the first problem, which I've mentioned before.
Now for that advice part...
YOUR CHARACTERS DO NOT NEED TO HAVE EXTRAVAGANT NAMES!!! Names like "Oceanflower" or "(insert super obscure flower name)spot" do not need to be used! Look at my characters! All of the characters that I made have super basic names. Maplepelt. Stonestripe. Icewing. Chances are that the characters in my book with super grand names weren't made by me!
There is only one exception to this rule: If the character's name has anything to do with a prophecy down the road or a special feature of their design. For example, "Skyfall" for a future prophecy or "Moonpelt" for odd pelt colorings (still a bit of a stretch though, I used it for the ability).
Using these names not only makes your character appear super Mary-sue-like, but also (generally) deters readers from your stories because they don't want to have to read a super difficult to process or long word every time your character is mentioned. And it has to be annoying for the writer too!!
Okay that was all.
Next chapter of Five Giants will be up in the next few days.
Bai.
