25: Best Shot

GETTING A karate dojo back together to try and stop Terry Silver, was only the start of their plan of taking down Cobra Kai. Isabella had skipped their first class yesterday; she was too embarrassed to show up after not winning the All Valley. But, she had to prove herself again, especially because their dojo had a chance at fighting in the Sekai Taikai.

She hadn't been to a dojo since the All Valley; no matter how worried she was, it was nice to be back with her friends. Also, Isabella spoke to her therapist about fixing her new fear of fighting, by practicing with people she was comfortable with.

"Sorry about not winning the girls section in the All Valley," Was the first thing that Isabella made sure she said.

"You should've been here yesterday," Hawk exclaimed, "Sensei Toguchi made us hide eggs. He's insane."

"It wasn't so bad when we worked together." Sam questioned curiously, "Why didn't you show up yesterday?"

"I, uh, slept in," Isabella lied slightly; she didn't oversleep, however she still could've made it.

"Belle, a word." Johnny said, guiding her away from her circle of friends. He cleared his throat, "How are you feeling?"

"Good," Isabella replied, "Why?"

"Your brother told me why you didn't show up to practice yesterday," Johnny explained, "I just want you to know that I'm not gonna force you to compete in the Sekai Taikai, if we get in."

Isabella nodded, "I still want to try."

"I'm on your side, kid, always." Johnny agreed, "Give it your best shot."

Miguel and Robby wandered over to the two talking; Robby cooed sarcastically, "Aw, how sweet. Is this what fatherly advice sounds like?"

Johnny sighed, "Robby, come on, we're just talking—"

"Relax," Robby chuckled, "I'm just messing with you."

Miguel chuckled too, before Johnny replied, "I'm glad you guys ironed out your shit. With all three of you on the same team, we actually have a shot."

While the Sensei's toured the Sekai Taikai examiners around the dojo, Isabella practiced her offence and defence with Miguel— the person she trusted the most. Robby refereed their fight, which was first to three points, though the pace of the match was slower than expected.

Robby exclaimed, "Ready... and fight."

The twins bowed to each other, before preparing themselves in their fighting stances. Miguel offended first, though he was holding back to make the fight seem less daunting to Isabella. The girl blocked her brother's punches, though she wasn't prepared for Miguel to kick her in the ribs.

Miguel's eyes widened, watching his sister stumble back. He panicked, "Shit. You alright?"

"Yeah," Isabella brushed herself off.

Isabella gained the next point by kicking her brother in the stomach; earning a point gave her courage, confirming to the mental block in her brain that she could fight. With Robby and Miguel supporting her, Isabella could possibly even fight in the Sekai Taikai.

She wandered over to get her drink, leaving Miguel and Robby in the space; Isabella sat down on the grass, chugging at the water in her bottle. The Aripiprazole she was taking started to affect her— she couldn't last two rounds without the tiring ache spreading through her bones.

Miguel walked over to her, sitting on the grass next to her, "You alright?"

"Just tired," She replied flatly.

Miguel frowned, "Already? We only just started fighting."

"It's a side affect of the meds," She lowered her voice, flipping her water bottle in the air and catching it repeatedly.

"Can't you ask Ma to change them over?" Miguel suggested.

"I already have," Isabella replied, "I think it takes a while for the new prescription to arrive."

The only way to determine which dojo could gain entry into the Sekai Taikai was to see how the students fight in direct competition, meaning that Cobra Kai and Eagle Fang/Miyagi-Do would have to select two fighters; whichever dojo won the three-point tournament, was the dojo who got to fight in the Sekai Taikai.

Johnny sat down opposite Miguel, Isabella, Robby, Hawk, and Sam; he said, "We have a choice to make, and it's not gonna be easy. You're all bad ads fighters, but only one boy and girl can get on that mat tomorrow." He explained, "Hawk's the current All Valley champ. Miguel is last year's champ, even though Hawk injured Robby in the semis, Hawk didn't have to fight in the semis this year. Belle won against Sam, but Belle didn't win against Tory. And Miguel booked it to Mexico." He added, "The point is you're all deserving."

"Well, us three have already made up our mind," Miguel replied, "Robby and I spoke about it, and there's only one choice. It should be Hawk."

Robby agreed, "He beat me fair and square."

"And I bowed out of last tournament." Miguel nodded, "So, we think he should represent us."

Hawk smiled, "I'm prepared for the challenge."

"We'll start training tonight," Johnny nodded, before looking between the two girls, "Now for the ladies, have you spoken about it?"

Isabella hadn't spoken to Sam that much after she broke Miguel's heart; she was quite the girl to hold a grudge.

"Uh, no," Isabella replied, "We haven't. I think Sam should do it—"

"You beat me at the All Valley," Sam disagreed, "You should do it, honestly."

"But, I didn't win the All Valley." She reasoned.

"You got closer to winning than me," Sam exclaimed, "I don't mind at all, Belle. Go for it."

Isabella looked at Miguel for approval, and he was nodding in excitement. She looked at Johnny, "So, can I do it?"

"Of course, kid." Johnny smiled, before glancing between Hawk and Isabella, "Get ready and me outside in a few minutes for training."
