MIK 51
51: Broken Memory
"I didn't know, it was Mr.Minho with you." Jisung glanced over at his husband who was writing an autograph to the nurses and then at Mingyu who looked at the scene in shock making him giggle.
"I thought you saw him yesterday." Jisung asked the obvious, but Mingyu aggressively denied it.
"I swear, I thought I was in delusion! He is my favourite celebrity." Jisung laughed, seeing the expressions Mingyu made making him look like he had gone crazy.
"You must be his infamous assistant, am I right?" Jisung tilted his head, the urge to spill out the truth itching in the tip of his tongue, but he restrained back for their safety.
"Technically yes." He said, but still Jisung wanted to throw his luck. "I'm his husband." Jisung felt the ease in spilling out the secret, which surprised him. Previously, he almost had to force himself to introduce Minho as his husband as he hated the male with passion, but now it was so much easier than he said.
"Haha funny, I'm his boyfriend then." Jisung glared, not liking the way Mingyu addressed his husband. "Aish chill dude. I was just pulling your leg, like you did." Jisung looked away, knowing that Mingyu didn't believe his words, but it wasn't Jisung's cup of tea to make the latter understand it was indeed the truth.
Travelling through the forests was pretty much easier, but reaching the city was tougher than they thought. The time they set foot over the road, policemen were crowding around their head, catching the husbands and inspecting them for any injuries.
However, reaching the hotel was harder than they thought. Someone leaked the information about their arrival, which caused the reporters to gather in front of the building. It was chaos, going through the flashing cameras, especially for Jisung who felt suffocated with the attention and questions thrown at him unlike Minho who was very much used to it.
"Minho! Jisung!" Their respective parents screamed, especially the mothers who ran towards their sons, pulling them into a hug.
Jisung hugged his mother back, making her tighten her grip, crying. "Oh,my god! I thought I lost you both." She exclaimed, pulling Minho who had his arms around Mrs.Lee and the four of them shared a group hug. Jisung looked at Minho with tears, but he was smiling which made Minho to bump his forehead lightly over Jisung's, which lasted only for a brief moment.
Soon, both the families were greeted by the police who interrogated them about the incidents and what happened after that.
"We are glad you are safe, Sir." The officer said looking at Minho who nodded in acknowledgement.
"However, we have doubts about some people." The officer said, glancing at a confused looking Jisung.
Minho didn't quite catch the situation as he asked," Whom do you have doubts on?" Minho knew that he did have many enemies around him, however he was aware of who they were and pretty much they were harmless, so hearing that there was one who must be plotting for him made Minho curious.
"Mr. Jisung, do cooperate with us and come to the station."
"Huh?" Jisung tilted his head, "Why me?"
"You are our prime suspected for the accident."
"What!?" The families exclaimed at the clearly wrong accusation. Minho glared at the officer, his hands clenching in anger when he saw the way the officer glanced at his husband, such menacing eyes shouldn't be gone away.
"How can you say that?" Minho pressured his words, snapping the officer out of his tracks.
"Sir, we assume that he tried a psychological trick to bring you out of the hotel. The goons didn't injure him much, so we suspect Mr.Jisung…."
"Did you guys get to see the goons' faces?" The officers flinched at the tone Minho used, feeling a bit scared under his strong gaze. At the moment, Kai along with his manager entered the scene only to get confused by the atmosphere. They were greeted by the family and were asked to take a seat which they did.
"Yes, Sir. Their faces have been captured in the CCTV footage." Minho smirked mockingly.
"Did you catch them?" The officers looked at eachother, gulping.
"Ah… W-we weren't able to, they are out of the country."
"You didn't catch the actual people who chased me, but got the energy to accuse someone who saved me?" Jisung bit his lips, feeling like kissing Minho for using such a sexy voice.
Jisung! Focus, you thirsty hoe! He mentally scolded himself for having such a thought in a serious situation.
"Catch them in three days. I don't care how you would, but if you don't say bye to your job." The officers nodded, and left the room, closing the door behind so as not to give the reporters any room of interrogation.
After many minutes of talking, Kai finally told the males and their families to take some rest. The reporters were still outside, but they were forced to vacate and flee the place upon Minho's order.
Later, both the families decided to go back to the Seoul as per Kai's request after all the shooting was done. The following day, Jisung and Minho left separate ways so as not to get the attention of the media. The couple didn't want them to find out their place, so the best way was to go to their own houses.
Jisung checked the messages sent by Seungmin, Hyunjin and Felix, replying to them hastily. He then looked outside the window, Minho's driver driving him and his family back to the Han household.
It's been a day since we confessed our feelings. Shouldn't I inform grandma? He thought, looking at his mother who was looking out the window then at his father who was sound asleep. He must be tired. Jisung thought, getting reminded about his father's health condition.
He then glanced outside, comprehending where they were, and finally recognised the place to be the area around his grandmother's house.
"Driver Uncle, please take the left side of the road." Jisung's mother glanced up, confusedly.
"Why, Jisung?"
"I wanna stay at grandmother's place." Mrs.Han nodded, not having any voice to object to his decision. The drive to his grandmother's place was silent, but he would occasionally point out ways for the driver to not get lost.
Finally, after an hour they reached his grandmother's house and saw the neighbourhood lady waiting outside the house with the keys, her eight-year-old son beside her, standing close to her since it was already dark outside.
Before Jisung could get out his mother grabbed his attention, "Jisung." She called out, making him turn his head towards her, " Tomorrow we have Christmas Eve. The Lee family will be staying over at our place for the Eve. Call your friend Hyunjin too."
And Seungmin. Jisung thought, nodding at her words.
"Sure. I will be there by morning." He exclaimed, getting out of the car and watched the car speeding away to the same direction they came from.
Jisung sighed, feeling a bit guilty. He knew it was time for him to confront his parents, but the distance between them wasn't shortening, and he has to work a bit hard with it.
He was reminded by Minho's words, at the night of their confession. Minho told him about the life they have that they only live once and being stuck in the past with regrets would make even more regrets to be added to the life.
Jisung for a fact realised that his parents have never treated him like other abusive parents, in fact they tried and were still trying to close the big gap in between them. However it was him all this time who pushed himself away from them, afraid of getting hurt again.
I should enjoy my time with them. He thought, waving at the lady who smiled at him. "Yaya Noona, how are you?" Yaya was a single mother, with no family support, and she was a living inspiration for him.
Yaya smiled, "Good! I'm getting so many new orders for Christmas lip glosses and they are in high demand now." She exclaimed, handing the key to Jisung who smiled taking it.
"That's good to hear, Noona." He then glanced at the boy, who shied away making him chuckle." I see, Yunho is still shy around me." They chuckled.
"Did you eat anything?" Jisung nodded, making her sigh, "Okay, if so, call me if you need anything. I have some more work to do."
"Yes, Noona." Both of them left for their respective houses, waving good night.
Jisung entered the house only to get greeted with the fresh smell of lime grass, which was coming from the aroma sticks. He took out a deep breath and sighed feeling instantly relaxed. Yaya has always cleaned the house once in two weeks and he always paid her no matter how much she cursed him for doing that, but for him it's not good to let her go without giving out the pay she deserved.
Jisung walked towards the familiar room and opened it with the key he had in hands. He was greeted with his grandmother's room which was pretty much his too, since he used to sleep beside his grandmother. He glanced around, feeling nostalgic. Every object in the house has a special meaning in his life and every little thing has its own story to tell.
He opened the window, greeting the gust of cold wind with a smile. Turning on his heels,he walked towards the bed.
He sat on the floor, leaning against the bed and closed his eyes feeling completely in solace, the guilt he felt before washed away. Sighing, he opened his eyes, his gaze falling over the photo frame that was hung over the wall.
A frame of little Jisung and his grandmother, both of them having wide happy grins over their faces.
"Grandma," He whispered slowly, "I finally got someone to rely on." He smiled thinking about Minho.
"I hated him. He was stubborn, well he still is. Handsome, hardworking and why not? His ego is something he carries around like his damn breath." Jisung laughed out loud at his own words.
"However, he is understanding. I never thought he had that kind of side, but he does and I am glad he was understanding of my feelings. Well of course I still sometimes do think about punching the heck out of him for taking my job away, but I will become a widower if I do that." Jisung giggled suddenly feeling giddy.
"Grandma, I love him. I fucking love him so much!" He screamed loudly only to shush himself to suppress his excitement, suddenly getting aware of his surroundings.
"I know you would have screamed 'language!' but I love him, Grandma. So freaking much." He whispered slowly, giggling. "We confessed a day ago and his words made my heart skip a beat." He then smiled.
"You're right, Grandma. Life wasn't always easy for us, however we faced it together and always will, until one of us is no longer there." He paused at the thought, but then shook his head, smiling softly. " It's time for me to let go of everything in the past. I started realising the value of the present when me and Minho were lost in the woods." He looked down, feeling a bit lost.
"I… I don't know how to approach Ma and Pa. They always tried everything to gain my trust, but I was sceptical about everything they did for me. Who was at fault, Grandma? Me or them? I'm lost. I don't know whether avoiding and reminding them about their past was something I should have done. " He glanced up, "Was there something I am not aware of? Are there any secrets that I don't know?" He sighed, getting up to catch upon the freeze breeze that was gently swaying through the window.
He leaned against it, looking at the sky, getting a glimpse of a star which was shining brighter than the rest of the stars over the night sky, making him smile. " I know no matter what, you will always watch me."
Suddenly a small blurry memory started playing on his head, making him confused.
You should read this when you are old and stable with a job.
Okay, grandma.
"What was that?" Jisung exclaimed, furiously shaking his head. He tried to comprehend what it was, blinking his eyes fastly when the memory became clear.
"Grandma's diary?" He tilted his head at the memory that he almost forgot. His grandmother used to write a diary and during her last days she used to remind him about the diary and made him promise to not let anyone other than Jisung to read it when he gets a stable job.
"Where it must be?" He mumbled to himself, looking around. He first checked over the cupboard, then at the boxes which had her things; painting, letters, photos but not the diary.
He then decided to check the other room, which consisted of books – novels and short stories– his grandmother used to read her times.
He carefully scrutinised each shelf, almost falling into disappointment until his fingers stopped at the familiar looking dirty emerald surface.
He immediately moved the books onto the side and picked the diary up. He opened the first page and immediately closed it after acknowledging the diary to be his grandmother's.
Jisung's heart was beating fastly. He felt extremely suffocated and nervous upon getting a hold on the hidden diary. He slid himself against the floor, leaning against the bookshelf in anticipation.
What was in it that his grandmother wanted only him to know?
Taking a deep breath, he slowly opened the diary, greeting the very first page of her secret.
