Chapter 1

*Kanekis POV*

I sighed and rubbed my temples in slow circles as I sat on the bench outside of the school, a large mocha by me with My school bag and books on my lap. The crisp winter air made the tip of my nose turn red and I looked at the freezing lake, the ice mixing with water and slush in a brilliant shade of numerous blues.

"Kaneki!" His voice sounded and I heard the frozen leaves that scattered the ground crunch under his feet as he came running towards me, a smile plastered on his face, his dirty blonde locks bouncing, his brown eyes gleaming as he slid onto the bench.

"What is it Hide?" I sighed out as I let my hands fall to my lap.

"Aww dont sound sad now! Do homework later!" He smiled as he snatched my books and jammed them carelessly into my backpack

"School just got out let's go have fun!" He grabbed my hands and yanked me up.

"Hide I'm packed with homework," I argued as he dragged my along with him, my mocha long forgotten.

"I know, I know but you need to go out sometime instead of being a book worm," he pouted as he spun to face me and gave me one of his child like grins.

"I dont have time," I repeated.

"Sure you do! Its the weekend so lighten up!" He insisted again.

"Fine," I sighed out.

"Yes!" He cheered as he grabbed my wrist and his pace turned into a steady run. I sighed Softly as I was forced to run behind him.

He took me to get ice cream, in this weather damn it! I was shivering as we walked down the quiet street.

"Let's go get coffee," he laughed nervously and I glared at him as I scrambled after him when he opened the door to Anteiku.

"What can I get you two?" Short blue hair that covered one eye and a frown, she didnt seem happy either as she tapped her foot impatiently.

"Two mochas," Hide smile and she huffed and walked off to an old male behind the counter to hand him a piece of paper as he turned to the machine and began brewing up our coffees I bet.

"The coffee here is really good," Hide smiled at me as he looked out the window.

"I've been here with you before," I sighed out as he seemed distant.

"Oh yeah," his voice was softer than normal and he glanced at me and seemed lost in thought when he glanced back out the window. It was snowing again, the white flakes hit the ground gently and it went down harder to begin forming more snow. I sighed, knowing I had to walk home in this weather.  The sweet aroma of coffee filled my nose and I looked down as the waitress set them in front of us and walked off again to a group of males that were laughing about something. I sipped the drink and opened my backpack to take out my homework to begin.

"Kaneki really," Hide whined.

"Yes," I huffed and smiled a bit as he grinned again.
