Chapter Twenty Six: How Do You Love Someone Without Getting Hurt
Tasha let out a scream as she thrashed against the bed, her eyes opening wide as she sat up, sweat covering her body. She let out another scream when she felt arms grab her, but calmed instantly when she realized it was just a nightmare.
"Tasha! What's wrong?!" Loki asked with concern, his eyes wide.
Tasha cried as she pulled him into a tight embrace. "You're alive! You're alive!"
"Tasha—"
"I — I thought I lost you again —" She sobbed, holding onto him for dear life. "You were d-dead! Please don't leave me again!"
"Shh, darling, I'm here. I'm here! It was just a nightmare." His lips met her temple as she tried to sooth her. "It wasn't real. It wasn't real."
Tasha's tears slowly came to a halt as she felt herself go numb. She slowly wiggled her way from Loki's grasp, not giving him a second glance.
"Where are you going?"
She simply held a book up to him before stepping into the living room, wiping the tears from her face. She refused to let that nightmare become reality.

That afternoon Tasha had spent reading novels she had Loki magic herself from earth. She barely spoke a word to him.
"What are you reading, my love?" Loki asked as he stepped over to her. Tasha hummed in response, holding the cover of the book up so he could read it. "The Ballad Of Reading Gaol by Oscar Wilde. Would you read an excerpt for me?"
Tasha nodded, clicking her tongue as she searched for her favorite quote.
Yet each man kills the thing he loves
By each let this be heard
Some do it with a bitter look
Some with a flattering word
The coward does it with a kiss
The brave man with a sword.
Loki's expression fell when she recited the book. "Is there a reason you're reading it? It sounds depressing."
"It keeps me grounded. It reminds me." She sighed as she set it aside. "Have you gotten the Grandmasters security codes yet?"
"He isn't very trusting." Loki sighed before sitting next to his lover, pulling her into his arms. "I promise I'll get them somehow."
"We've been here too long already, Loki. I fear if we're here much longer we will be too late to save anyone." Tasha frowned, the images of her nightmare never quite leaving her.
"We will save our people. We will find Thor. Have faith, darling."
"Faith?" Tasha scoffed sadly. "Faith in what? How can you expect me to have faith in your empty promises? I am terrified that if I let myself trust you — let myself love you that you're just going to break my heart again."
Loki held onto Tasha tight, looking deeply into her eyes. "I love you with my entire soul. Believe me when I say I would not survive life without you."
"You already did."
"That wasn't living. I suffered every day you were not at my side. None of it was worth losing you. You're giving me a chance to prove myself, and I swear I won't let you down, my sweet."
Tasha looked at him warily, but leaned her head against his chest. "If you're going to hurt me, just kill me. I'd rather die than live in a world where you betray me again."

The truth was Tasha didn't know if she would ever be able to forgive Loki for all the pain he had caused her. She knew at this point she was falling fast and deeply, which terrified her. While she wanted to leave Sakaar and save their people, she had this feeling Loki still didn't grasp that.
After the horrid nightmare she had, she immediately put her guard up. She didn't want to get hurt, and she couldn't stop feeling like Loki didn't want to leave Sakaar.
Tasha sighed deeply as she held her hand on her hip, tapping her foot impatiently as she waited for Loki's arrival. He told her to meet him fifteen minutes prior but he had still not showed up. She was becoming impatient and a little worried as usually Loki was quite punctual.
After a few minutes Tasha decided to scope him out rather than wait endlessly for his arrival. Tasha was relieved when she noticed him, but the relief instantly turned to frustration when she saw his smile.
"Loki, why the hell are you taking so long—" Tasha went to scold him, but quickly Loki walked to her, grabbing onto her waist and tugging her along the hallway.
"Sorry, my dove. The Grandmaster's new pet was being a nuisance."
"Aren't they always?" Tasha huffed in frustration, pouting her lip. "You're late."
"My apologies." Loki pressed his lips to her forehead. "I've still been unable to locate the security codes."
Tasha look up at Loki, frowning when she noticed the slight wrinkle between his brows. "You're lying."
"What? Tasha —"
"Loki Odinson!" Tasha yelled, glaring at him. "Do not dare lie to me. Not again."
Loki sighed in defeat. "It's complicated, my love. Let me take us home and I can explain —"
"No." Tasha folded her arms over her chest. "You can tell me right here, right now. I'm not going to let you manipulate me."
Loki frowned. "Thor is here! Alright?!"
"Thor? What do you mean here?" Tasha's arms dropped to her side when she realized. "He's the new contender isn't he?"
"Yes. We spoke briefly. His powers are all but gone, darling. There's no point in going back to Asgard when only I have any magic left."
"You — you were going to keep this from me? Why? Why would you do that? After everything —" She was breaking down. She tried desperately to hold it in but she was breaking at the seams.
"Tasha — we have a life here. We can start over — we can live our dreams, together. We can a big house and we can have children —"
"We can have all of those things when we save Asgard. When we save our people." Tasha said as she averted her gaze. "You knew I wouldn't agree with you, that's why you lied, right?"
"Please, darling, just hear me out —"
*SMACK*
Tasha's hand collided with Loki's cheek, slapping him as hard as she could manage. "No. We're done. Goodbye, Loki."
"Tasha, wait—" Loki trailed after her. "I don't care about Asgard! I just care about you! Here I am someone! There I'm nothing but an outcast."
"Did you ever even think for one moment how what you did affected me? Did you?!" Tasha asked in anger.
Loki was silent as he listened to her words.
"You always ruin everything! We were at a good place. I actually thought I could believe you. Now?!" Tasha ran her fingers through her hair in anger. "I'm going to help Thor and When I find a way off this planet I'm gone. And you will never see me again. I promise you that."
As Tasha began to walk away, Loki grabbed her arm. "Tasha, please—"
"There's nothing you can say." Tasha turned back to him, "You have a choice to make. Your selfish desires or me."
"Tasha—"
"I won't love a ghost the rest of my life." She said brokenly as she pulled out of his grasp, turning away from him so he couldn't see the tears in her eyes.
"Goodbye, Loki."
Loki watched as Tasha walked away, his entire being conflicted. He knew his choice would always be her, then why did he not chase after her? She deserves better.
