I Can't Lose You
"No, no. You've got the bark facing down," an angry man yelled at a little boy ran by, just enjoying the snow. "The bark needs to be face-up." He seized the wood and flipped it back onto the pile.
"Down is drier!" he argued, trying to grab the log, which only ended up with both of them pulling at it.
"Bark up!"
"Bark down!"
"Bark UP!"
The boy grabbed some of the firewood and ran back to his family. "Papa! Papa!"
Hanna walked around the square, holding blankets and cloaks for the townspeople, wearing one of the cloaks. "Cloak. Does anyone need a cloak?" he called.
Gerda came over for one, smiling sadly at her. "Arendelle is indebted to you, Your Highness."
She returned her smile, then straightened, calling to the crowds, "The castle is open! There is soup and hot glögg in the Great Hall." She handed the rest of his load to a guard, instructing, "Here, pass these out." The guard nodded and began his rounds.
"Princess Hanna!" The duke marched over, his arms around himself. Two guards followed him. "Are we expected to just sit here and freeze to death while you give away all of Arendelle's tradable goods?"
Keeping a cool head, Hanna responded, "Prince Andar has given his orders."
"And that's another thing!" he exclaimed, dramatically pantomiming. "Has it dawned on you that your prince charming be conspiring with a wicked sorceress to destroy us all?!"
Hanna's pride now on the line, she narrowed her eyes and pointed at the duke, growling, "Do not question the prince. They left me in charge. He left me in charge. And I will not hesitate to protect Arendelle from treason."
Genuinely shocked, the duke jumped back slightly. "Treason?!"
Cutting their fight short, Kjekk came bursting through the gates, freaking out. Hanna ran to him as he jumped on two legs, holding out her hands. "Whoa, whoa! Whoa, boy. Easy...easy..." she grabbed the reigns, trying to hold him back.
"It's Prince Andar's horse!"
"So where's the prince?"
"Where could he be?"
"Where is he?"
Hanna looked around at the people, all anxious for the prince, petting the horse. She then looked at the mountain, assuming that he was up there with the queen.
"Enough!" she yelled over the noise, silencing them. "What the queen's motivations are, I cannot say. But I can assure you Andar is pure and noble."
"Why should we listen to you?!"
Hanna looked blankly at the crowd before she sighed, putting one of her hands over her eyes. Looking back at the crowd, she began to pace.
Hanna:
I'm only the thirteenth child of a king
Nor am I your leader
Only his fiancée
But my love for him has made something clear:
We can't give into fear
Not here...not today
We can't know how threatening the road will be up ahead
But put your faith in Andar
The way Andar put his faith in me...
I can't tell you what the prince sees in me
But let me tell you what an honor it would be
If you could let me lead you through this time of trials!
You ask for a leader, a servant responds:
"Trust Hanna of the Southern Isles"
"But what of the cold?!"
"What of the queen?!"
"What if she really is a monster?!"
"Then she will be delt with," Hanna promised. "And Andar and I will lead you back to summer."
A man stepped forward and took her hand to kiss it.
Man:
She's more than the thirteenth child of a king
A girl rushed to her, taking her hands. Hanna accepted them, giving her a determined nod.
Girl:
We're lucky she came along at our time of need
Citizens:
We'll never give into fear or treason
Female Citizens:
We'll listen to reason
Citizens:
And follow her lead
Hanna:
Who will come with me?
The duke jumped at the opportunity with his hand up and spoke out, "My men and I, My Lady!"
Duke of Wesleton:
Yes, Wesleton arises
And offers to the power of his sword
She stepped in front of the citizens as two men tied a sheath around her dress with the rest of the citizens backing her up.
Hanna:
I call to your kingdom
One of the men handed her a sword that she looked at, running her hand down its blade.
Citizens:
Our kingdom responds to Hanna
[To Hanna!]
Hanna, Citizens:
Princess Hanna of the Southern Isles!
She held the sword up triumphantly, ready for a fight.

"So how exactly do you plan to stop this winter?" Kristoff asked as they went through icy mounds, colder in the shade.
"Oh, I am gonna talk to my sister," Andar announced confidently.
"That's your plan?" Y/n demanded, laughing. "You really think that your sister will want to talk to you?"
"Why wouldn't she?"
She dragged Kristoff away from an icicle that poked at his nose. "Because she literally ran away."
"She was just scared." He slowed down so that he could walk next to her. "She's actually the nicest person in the world and I know that she cares about us."
"Yeah!" Olaf agreed cheerfully. "I bet she's the kindest, warmest, gentlest person ever." As he spoke, his head was turned, so he did not see the icicle in front of it him. It sliced through his stomach so that his bottom part fell over. He looked down, patting it. "Oh, look at that. I've been impaled."
-
The mountain in front of them when they arrived was far too steep to walk up.
"What now?" asked Andar.
Kristoff went into his bag for a rope as he said, "It's too steep. I've only got one rope and you don't know how to climb mountains."
"Says who?" He had already begun to climb up, reaching for another piece of the mountain to grab onto.
"Andar, why?" Y/n asked flatly. She and Kristoff shared a look, then turned back to him.
"Whaaaat are you doing?" Kristoff asked, although it was clear enough to see.
"I'm going...to see...my sister!" he announced.
"You're gonna kill yourself," Y/n retorted, rolling her eyes.
"I wouldn't put my foot there," Kristoff warned just as her foot slipped.
"You're distracting me."
"Or there," Y/n agreed. Another slip. "How do you even know Elsa wants to see you?" She yelled up to him, cupping her hands around her mouth. "Like, really know?"
"Alright, I'm just blocking you out 'cause I gotta concentrate here." He made another noise as his foot slipped again.
"People who disappear into the mountains want to be alone. You realize that, right?"
"Nobody wants to be alone," he argued, trying to pull himself up, still to no avail. "Except maybe you."
"We're not alone. We have each other."
"And our friends, remember?" Kristoff added.
"You mean the love experts." He groped desperately for another spot to place his hand.
Kristoff crossed his arms smugly. "Yes. The love experts."
"Andar, you sure you got this?" Y/n asked, her smug look dropping while she watched the prince.
"Yeah." Andar grunted, trying to pull himself up. He loosened his arms, panting. "Please tell me I'm almost there."
He had only gotten a few inches of the ground, his leg awkwardly clinging onto one of the rocks.
"Does the air seem a bit thin up here to either of you?"
Chuckling, Y/n went over to help. "Hang on."
"Hey, Sven, Y/n?" Olaf called out, just at the edge of the mountain. "Not sure if this is gonna solve the problem, but I found a staircase that leads exactly where you wanna go."
"Haha, thank goodness! Catch!" Andar let go of the mountain, into Y/n's arms that had opened up for him. When he landed, Y/n swallowed, realizing this was the closest they had been. Even Andar looked at her a bit strangely, struggling to say something. "You're kind of strong, aren't you?"
Embarrassed, she let out a forced laugh. "I lift ice..." she explained.
"Well, thanks." He pat her gently, then hopped off, making his way to the staircase. "That was like a crazy trust exercise."
She smiled after her, followed by Kristoff, who raised a brow. Y/n hit him in the shoulder, then brushed past him.
-
Behind the rocky wall were not only the stairs, but a huge palace reaching the top of the highest rock on the mountain.
"Whoa..." Andar sighed, a puff of warm air evaporating as soon as it left her mouth.
"Now that's ice..." Kristoff whispered in awe at it. His bottom lip pulled back as he choked out, "I might cry."
"Go ahead," Andar said, not taking his sight off of the palace and walking ahead of them. "I won't judge..."
"I will," Y/n responded, coming in clutch behind the prince. "Now how the hell am I gonna climb these stairs without slipping?" she asked herself. She gripped onto the railing with both of her hands, trying to inch her way up.
Sven ran up behind her and rammed right into her butt, causing her to sprawl out on her stomach. "Ow, my pride..." she mumbled.
The reindeer tried to back up, but began to slip, even after he had gripped his feet into the ice.
Kristoff ran over, grabbing Sven's torso. "Alright, take it easy, boy. C'mere, I gotcha." He put him on the snow, then grabbed Y/n's shoulders, propping her up. When she slid back into him, he sighed, lifted her, and put her on his back.
"I can walk," she pouted, beginning to strangle him lightly.
"Choke me, I drop you on your fat ass." He turned his head back to Sven and said, "Okay. You stay here, buddy."
He sat in the snow like a dog, patiently waiting for his friends to return.
Kristoff began his walk up, holding Y/n's leg with one hand and the railing with another.
"You know, you shouldn't comment on a girl's weight," she teased right in his ear as they went up. "You could get badly hurt."
"You think I'm scared of you? Please, I still remember you two feet shorter than me."
"I am two feet shorter than..." She stopped when she realized that Kristoff had wanted her to say this. "You suck, you hear me? Suck."
"Yes, princess."
Once they reached the top, Kristoff put her down, still admiring the ice palace. Andar was already at the door.
"Knock," Olaf said. Andar raised his hand, but kept it there, remembering painfully all the other times he had tried to knock for Elsa before..
"Just knock...why isn't he knocking?" He leaned closer to the other two and asked, "Do you think he knows how to knock?"
And knock he did, the doors instantly opening for him.
"It opened!" he said excitedly, then added to himself, "That's a first. Oh..." She looked back at Kristoff and Y/n apologetically. "You should probably wait out here."
"What?"
"Last time I introduced her to someone, she froze everything."
"Oh, gee, I wonder why," Y/n responded, crossing her arms.
"But...but...oh, come on!" He threw up his hands. "It's a palace made of ice. Ice is my life! It's our life!"
"Well, more his."
"Bye, Sven. Bye, Y/n." Olaf waved, already halfway in the door.
Andar pulled him back. "You, too, Olaf."
"M...me?" he asked, his face falling.
"Just give us one minute, okay?"
"Okay."
He went in, leaving Kristoff sighing and Y/n already sitting.
"One..." Olaf began, turning back to sit on the step, where Kristoff had joined Y/n. He plopped in between the two. "Two...three..."
"Four..." they joined in.
-
Inside were two staircases leading up to another floor with only one doorway and the middle held an ice fountain with ice jumping out of it. "Whoa...Elsa?" Andar shouted out. "It's me, Andar!" He slipped on her way to the staircase, looking down at her feet to steady himself.
"Andar."
He looked up to find Elsa with her hair in a french braid over her shoulder and tight blue dress and cape.
"Elsa...you look...different," Andar stared. Quickly, he added, "It's a good different! And this place is..." She looked around, still taking everything in. "Amazing."
"Thank you. I never knew what I was capable of," she admitted.
Andar began to climb the stairs, his sister trying to back away. "Elsa, I'm so sorry about what happened. If I had known -"
"No, no." She put up a hand to stop him. "It's okay. You...you don't have to apologize." Sadly, she looked away from him, playing with her hands. "But you should probably go...please."
"But I just got here," he pointed out.
"You belong down in Arendelle." She was still backing away.
"So do you," she argued.
"No, Andar. I belong here. Where I can be myself...without hurting anybody."
"Actually, about that..."
"Sixty!" Olaf cried, cutting Andar off.
Elsa confusedly looked over. "Wait, what is that?"
Olaf ran in at full speed, yelling out, "Hi! I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs!"
".......Olaf?" she asked in disbelief.
He stopped at Andar's feet, sheepishly looking up at her. "You built me. Remember that...?"
"And you're alive?"
"Um..." He looked at his arms, wiggling his few fingers. "I think so?"
Elsa could only look down at her hands as Andar crotched next to him. "It's just like the one we built as kids."
"Yeah..." A small smile came.
"Elsa, we were so close...we can be like that again."
She smiled at the thought until a flashback hit her with a gasp.
-
"Catch me!"
"Again!"
"Andar!"
A shot of ice left her hand and hit him in the head as he jumped. With a grunt, he fell into the snow, unmoving.
-
"No, we can't." She turned away and stood her ground, hands balled up. "Goodbye, Andar."
"Elsa, wait!" Andar tried.
But she kept her back turned firmly, her arms slacking.
Elsa:
Standing...frozen...in this life I've chosen...
Please don't...find me...the past is all behind me...
Leave me...in the snow...
Let me go...
When she looked, she saw him at the top of her stairs and jumped, but Andar held out a hand, silently pleading for her to stop. "What do you want, Andar?!" she finally asked, her backing away from him.
He stopped, when he saw her begin to retreat. "This."
Andar:
Just you and I talking
And chatting
And taking up space
And you...you look so at peace
Which I did not predict after all that took place
I'm so sorry; I didn't know, I couldn't see
I knew you were hiding, but selfishly thought
You were hiding from me
That's why I've come all this way
To look in your eyes and say:
I can't lose you...
Not again...
I can't lose you like then
Elsa shook her head, stuck to the ground as her brother came closer and reached out for her.
Andar:
If you could see yourself the way I do
Then you'd see why I can't lose you...
His hand touched her shoulder, which caused her to pull back and refuse him. "Wait..."
Elsa:
I'm happy you came
But it's not safe to stay here and talk
He came closer again, but she stepped away and went back down the stairs.
Elsa:
Don't get close, this is all so brand-new
Let me first learn to crawl before I try to walk
I'm at home here, out in the cold, up in the air
But it all turns to chaos near people I love
And with how much I care
Please don't remind me to feel...
Believe me, the danger is real!
He ran down the stairs for her, stopping on the last one.
Andar, Elsa:
I can't lose you
Not again
I can't lose you like then
Elsa:
You don't know the things that I can do
You have to keep your distance 'cause
Andar, Elsa:
I can't lose...
He went around her when she tried to turn her back on him again, holding his arms out. "You have to listen!" he pleaded. "When you left, you...kinda set off an eternal winter...everywhere."
"Everywhere?" Snow began to fall from inside of the ice palace.
"It's okay, you can just unfreeze it."
"No, I can't! I..." She looked desperately at his hands. Why could she not just cut them off?! "I don't know how!"
"But, Elsa..."
Andar:
You have to listen, I've come here to tell you
That everything's different now that I understand
Elsa:
I know you mean well, but the air's getting colder
Just leave me alone, let me get this in hand
Andar:
But I'm here for you; we can fix this together
For once try to trust me; I'm begging you now!
Elsa:
Don't you see I'm the storm? And you make it worse!
I would fix it, but I don't know how!
A mist began to come out, which, when stuck to Andar, he realized that it was a flurry.
Andar, Elsa:
I can't lose you!
Try to see!
Andar:
Why can't you turn to me?
Elsa:
I'm trying to tell you that
Andar, Elsa:
I can't lose you like before!
Elsa:
As much as I wish I could open that door
Andar:
Why can't you open that door?!
He got closer, Elsa having given up trying to run, despite the snow that had enclosed them together.
Andar, Elsa:
If you loved yourself the way I do...
Then you'd see why I can't lose you!
Andar lunged foward and threw his arms around Elsa's waist. In a panic, her exploded out. Ice magic shot all around them, hitting him in the chest. He grunted as he fell in Elsa's arms. Seeing him, she gasped, letting him down gently and slowly stepping away with her hands over her mouth.
"Andar!" Y/n ran over to him, stopping when she saw Elsa. "What did you -"
"Y/n, no." He looked up from the ground to her with a hard look. "I'm fine, okay?"
"Who's she?" Elsa asked in a panic. Another Hanna situation?
Scratch that, she did not want to know.
"Wait, it doesn't matter, just...you have to go."
"No!" Andar cried, getting to his feet. "Elsa, please, we can fix this together!"
"How?!" she demanded, turning with a panicked look. "What power do you have to stop this winter? To stop me?!"
More ice came out of the walls, Y/n looking at him worriedly, her arm reaching out to pull him back. "Hey, princey, I think we should go."
But he pulled away, turning back to Elsa with determination. "No, I'm not leaving without you, Elsa!"
"Yes. You. Are."
She threw her hands in the middle of them and a giant snowy monster rose up in front of them.
-
"Stop!"
"Put us down!"
"Go away!" the monster yelled at them, then threw them out into the snow, followed by a confused Kristoff, who had been innocently waiting on the step. In his other hand, he held Olaf's head.
"Heads up!" he called as he was thrown into the mound behind them. Then, "Watch out for my butt!" They ducked as the rest of him was thrown at them.
"It. Is not nice. To throw people!" Andar yelled, balling up some snow in her hands.
"Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, feisty-pants." Y/n grabbed her arms and pulled her back. "Okay, relax. Just calm down. Calm down!"
"Okay, alright. I'm okay."
Kristoff tugged at his other arm. "Just let the snowman be."
"I'm calm."
"Great."
They began to walk away, but Andar turned back around and chucked it at the snowman, landing on his shoulder. Despite it being a very tiny hit, especially for such s big snowman, he roared at them, icicles coming out of his feet.
"Look, see? Now you've made him mad," Kristoff sighed.
"I'll distract him. You guys go," Olaf offered.
They ran, his body picking itself up and going around the other way.
"No, no, not you guys!"
The giant snowman's stomping caused Olaf's head to fall into the snow, carrot-first. "This just got a whole lot harder..." he mumbled into the powder.
-
They slid down a small slope, the snowman just behind them, still roaring loudly. The slope led to the rest of the mountain. They went down to the bottom of the one they were on, the snowman jumping down just as they landed.
"I thought she said she didn't want to hurt us?!" Y/n yelled at Andar as they ran through the piney forest.
They ran past a few trees that Andar went around the other way.
"What are you doing?!" Kristoff called back as he reared it back and let it go, hitting the snowman and having him fall on his back.
He ran back to them, laughing. "I got him!" he declared triumphantly.
Their celebration was cut short when they stopped short of a cliff. "Whoa, stop!"
A chunk of snow fell off too where they could not see its point of destination.
"It's a hundred foot drop," Y/n said as she watched the snow crumble.
"It's two hundred," Kristoff corrected, taking a rope and tying it around them.
"Ow!" Y/n complained, but let him.
"What are you doing?" Andar asked when he dropped a few feet away, digging into the snow.
"I'm digging a snow anchor."
"Okay, but what if we fall?"
"There's twenty feet of fresh powder down there. It'll be like landing on a pillow...hopefully."
Trees came down as the snowman plowed through, still screaming through his search.
Kristoff stood once he finished securing it and tossed the rope back. "Okay...you ready?"
Andar nodded. "Okay."
"One..."
"You tell me when. I'm ready to go."
"...two..."
"I was born ready! Yes!"
"Take it easy, princey," Y/n said, rolling her eyes.
A giant tree landed in front of Kristoff, covering him in snow.
"TREE!" He jumped, grabbing Y/n's shoulder with one hand and her other out.
"Oh fuuuUUUUUU -"
"Whoa!"
The rope stopped their fall, letting them dangle in the air.
"That happened," was all that Kristoff said.
-
Olaf ran out of the woods, his middle and bottom mixed up. His nose was in the side of his head and arm misplaced, as well. He panted as he came out, bending over. "Man, I'm out of shape..." He fixed his parts, then put his arm and nose back in correctly. "There we go. Hey, Anna! Y/n! Sven! Where'd you guys go! We totally lost Marshmallow back there!"
'Marshmallow' came out of the trees, snow dumping out of the pines.
"Hey!" Olaf greeted with a bit of hidden fear. "We were just talking about you! All good things, all good things."
He pushed past him, Olaf reaching out for his foot to stop him. "No!" He jumped on, trying to pull him back like a crazy ex-girlfriend. "This is not making much of a difference, is it?"
Marshmallow glanced down at him, then kicked him off off of the mountain so that he passed Andar, Y/n, and Kristoff.
"Olaf!" Andar cried, reaching out for him.
"Hang in there, guys!" he called, breaking back up against the rocks.
Andar looked back up worriedly, urging, "Go, go faster!"
He tried, but the rope stopped and began to get pulled up.
"Um, Kristoff? WRONG WAY." Y/n desperately tried to push all of her weight down by jumping in mid-air.
"I - I'm not doing it!"
Andar tried to untie Y/n's knot, but she pulled away when she saw Kristoff hit his head on the mountain. "Kristoff!" She began to reach out for him until Marshmallow pulled them right up to his face.
"Don't come BACK!" he bellowed, spraying snow all over them.
"We won't." Andar promised as Y/n took a pocket knife out and cut them off, screaming on the way down.
Andar thunked half her body in the snow on her landing, opening his eyes. Y/n was still in his arms, her legs practically wrapping arms him in fear. She opened her eyes and realized that they were at the bottom and tried to back off. "See? Told ya. Just like a pillow."
He smiled at her, but it dropped when he saw Olaf's head and torso a few feet next to him. "Olaf!"
Hyperventilating, he held onto a pair of boots, crying, "I can't feel my legs! I CAN'T FEEL MY LEGS!"
Behind him, Kristoff's head popped up. "Those are my legs!"
"Oh. Hey, do me a favor. Grab my butt."
Kristoff reached for the running body as it past him, putting Olaf on it. "Oh, that feels better."
Sven ran up by him, sniffing where his carrot was.
"Hey, Sven!" Olaf happily exclaimed, turning to Andar just as he snapped at his nose. "He found us! Who's my cute little reindeer?"
Kristoff grabbed him and pulled him away. "Don't talk to him like that," he said disgustedly.
But Olaf continued to giggle as he walked away, squealing out, "You're tickling me," to Sven.
Andar got up and pulled Y/n up with. "Are you okay?"
She nodded and mumbled a, "Thank you." To Kristoff , she reached out to his head softly, brushing some of his blond hair aside. "How's your head?"
Once she touched it, he pulled back, his hand rising quickly to touch it. "Ow! Ooh! It's fine," he said quickly. "Ah - I'm good. I've got a thick skull.
Olaf looked up at them blankly. "I don't have a skull...................or bones."
Ignoring him, Y/n asked, "So, now what?"
"Now what?" he repeated, fixing his hair, getting lost in her eyes. But once her words sunk in, "Now what? Ohhhh...what an I gonna do?! I can't go back to Arendelle with the weather like this! And then there's your ice business..."
"Don't worry about that," Y/n said with a hand up to stop him. Looking closer, she added, "Worry about your hair."
"What? I just fell off a cliff," Andar reminded her. "Have you seen your buddy's hair over there?"
Self-consciously, Kristoff tried to shake it off.
"No, yours is turning white," she insisted, pulling out a small mirror.
"White? It's -" Andar looked in the mirror, gasping when he saw what should have been a reddish-orange instead a shade whiter than his sister's hair. "What?"
"It's because she struck you, isn't it?" Kristoff asked.
Worried, Andar asked, "Does it look bad?"
Kristoff looked at Y/n, who took a minute, then replied, "No."
"You hesitated," Olaf said, popping up.
No, I..." She brushed past him. "Look, you both need help. Okay? Come on."
Olaf followed him obviously, the girls more hesitantly. "Okay! Where are we going?"
"To see our friends."
"The love experts?" Andar asked for clarification.
"Love experts?!" Olaf asked excitedly.
Y/n heaved a sigh. "Yes. But they're more than love experts. They can help you."
Kristoff nodded, trudging along next to Y/n. "Don't worry. They'll be able to fix this."
Andar stopped for a minute. "How do you know?"
They stopped, as well, shared a look, then looked back at him. "Because we've seen them do it before."
As they pushed through, Olaf chimed in, "I like to consider myself a love expert."
