Chapter Nine: Leaving for Work

After so many steps, the yak and guard got to the basement. As they walked down step after step, the bottomless pit faded. Red and orange light lit up the basement, pushing the darkness away.

When Kai's feet - or hooves - touched solid ground, he let himself fall and landed on his stomach.

"Man," the yak groaned. He was tired from all the walking, even though that there were only twenty steps. "I heard that, narrator."

The guard hurried up to him and poked him with the tip of his gun. "Get up," he said. "You have work to do. It is no time to be lazy and rest."

"Ugh." He slowly got up and rubbed his arms and legs. His muscles were hurting. "If I have to work, can I not just take a break for a few minutes. Please?"

"Sorry. Though, I am not really sorry. I have my orders. You must work right away. We only have a couple of soldiers who are gathering coal and putting them in the furnace." He examined the Taker of Chi and smirked. "Seeing that you like to steal other people's chi and are pretty strong, you get to help in powering the ship."

Kai snarled and leaned over him. "You are not the boss of me."

"You are right about that. Lord Zorac is the boss of you now, and I am only following his orders." He pointed his space gun at him. "Now, do what you are told. Or I will blast you to the moon and back."

The Maker of Widows hesitated. He suddenly realized that he had his powers. The three anti-heroes had gotten their superpowers back as soon as they had left the cell. He remembered telling Bill.

A grin spread across the yak's face. An evil grin. He raised a hoof and waited for his powers to come back to him. He soon got ahold of the powers of chi, and green light, chi, formed in his palm.

"Time for you to experience the power of chi," Kai told the guard. "I am taller than you. Bigger than you. And I am now stronger than you!"

The guard let out a whoosh of air. "How am I not surprised? Our jail mates always want to do it the hard way." Quickly, he aimed his gun at the green chi and fired.

White light appeared from the gun and shot out. The white laser hit the chi that was forming in Kai's hand, and the green chi instantly disappeared.

Kai was in shock. "W-what...?"

The guard chuckled darkly and twirled his space gun in his hand. "My friends and I are trained extremely well. We have quick reflexes and can fight like experts. But seeing that each of us carry these special guns, which can destroy any power and any physical form, there is no reason for us to fight. So you may be taller than me. You are bigger than me." He grabbed a shovel that was near him. "But in the end, I am the one who is trained and very clever." He shoved the shovel in Kai's left hand. "Get to work. That is, if you know what it is good for you." He started back up the stairs. "And just so you know, my friends and I are immune to chi. None of us have chi." With that, he went back up and disappeared.

The Beast of Vengeance sighed and looked around the place.

The basement was not in darkness. That was only because of the red and orange flames. The fire that was forming in the furnace. It brightened the room.

Kai threw the shovel aside and crossed his arms. There was no way that he, a villain like him, would do such a thing like getting coal and throwing them in the furnace.

Just then, he felt a tap on his shoulder. He snorted.

"What do you want?" he questioned. "If you want me to work, then I am sorry. I am not doing this, and you cannot make me."

"Do not worry. I will not make you."

The Taker of Chi slowly turned and faced a figure. The figure wore black pants and black heels. The rest of the figure's body was covered by a black hood.

He squinted. "Who are you?"

"Why, you can call me a friend."
