Mourning
Asahi laid down on the couch beside his boyfriend, still holding back his tears. He was trying not to cry too loudly so he didn't wake up Noya, who was asleep. The movement seemed to do just that for a moment, however, because the small boy buried his face in Azumane's chest and fell back asleep. That was good. He needed time to pull himself together. He couldn't just cry, right?
They were in the hospital together, and it was June first. He didn't know how he knew, he just did. He gripped the other's hand, but soon they were both crying. He reached out and swiped one away from those beautiful chocolate brown orbs with his thumb, but quickly flinched and recoiled.
His tears seemed to poison Nishinoya's skin, as if wiping them away were doing harm to him. He couldn't just leave Asahi alone, however, because comfort in distress was one of the most important things one could provide. Still, every time the pain leaked out of his soulmate's eyes, he felt a pang in his chest. It wounded him to see the other hurt. Suddenly, fireworks exploded outside their window. No, not fireworks. These were brighter, greater, and far more terrifying.
Meteors.
Yuu's eyes snapped open and he wiggled out of Asahi's arms. He needed a moment alone. His boyfriend was weak right now, he didn't have the strength to learn about the small boy's nightmares. They seemed to taunt him in his sleep, and sometimes he stayed up the entire night just to avoid them. He knew that this was probably a result of the events of last year, and knowing that, he also knew that Azumane would blame himself if he found out. And frankly, Noya couldn't be responsible for placing that burden on him.
He sneaked down the hallways, and after peeking through multiple doors, finally found the restroom in the apartment. Shutting the door as quietly as he could, then locking it, he finally let the warm tears slip down his cheeks.
Azumane blinked his eyes open and felt a coldness where his soulmate once was. Slowly sitting up and yawning, he managed to get himself the rest of the way awake. He's probably in the bathroom, he thought, because the door was closed and Suga was by the stove, presumably cooking himself breakfast. The tall man gave his roommate a wave, and then headed towards his room so he could get ready for the day.
Noya slowly creaked open the door after making sure Asahi was gone, then walked towards Sugawara. After a knowing glance from the former setter (he'd been telling Suga about his nightmares for weeks), he sighed.
"I'll tell him, Suga-san. Just not right now. He can't handle it right now."
The grey-haired boy nodded and went back to making breakfast, cracking an egg over the pan. It sizzled loudly for a moment, then went silent. After a minute, Suga flipped it and cussed loudly; the yolk had broken. He giggled a little when he heard a yell from Daichi to shut the fuck up and watch his profanity.
Nishinoya didn't miss the irony.
